I am 66 years old, retired and used to play guitar in a rock band in the '70s. This is the BEST band I have heard for the past 30 years. Musicians can sound like other ones just by FATE - so it's not a big deal at all. Even with an EFFORT to sound unique, you can come off sounding like another band.
3 brothers 19 and 22 yr old twins and the drummer is 19. Give them time. They say they wrote the songs 3 or 4 years ago when they were 15 and 18. They are definitely on their way up
Narf AppRently people do care as their shows are nearly all sold out through year end and when the album drops it will be number one in all likelihood. Derivative or not they are a good band with a lot of talent. If you don’t like them that’s cool but to say no one does is foolish
Narf you’re so fucking ignorant it hurts to read your comment think I’m done with the comment section today. Tho rereading that in an angry nerdy voice did make my day better cause it sounds fucking ridiculous and I love it thanks asshole 😂
Robert Plant is fine with these guys, so what's the problem?!?! There not being another Zeppelin anyway, people that think that need to listen and watch them more! ! There a breath of fresh air, we deserve another great band! ! ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
@Will Marero I guess writing your own songs is unoriginal now. Playing your own music is unoriginal. 90% of rap and pop sound the same and about the same thing. Girls, drugs, money.
A breath of fresh air. I'm hoping this triggers more good solid rock music. I think the over saturated, do it yourself hip hop era could finally becoming to an end.
brodemonz just wanna pretend Led Zeppelin is back, huh? I wonder what people would think if these guys were doing this shit in 1970. Everyone would think they were a blatant rip-off of LZ. No doubt about it. But I guess it's okay to literally steal an entire bands sound and image right down to the mannerisms of the lead singer. That's cool, dude. I get it. We all have different tastes.
Y'all can complain about them sounding too much like Zeppelin all day long, but the song writing is clearly what makes this band stand out. So glad this band is blowing up and I'm excited for the album!
I find it hilarious that people are saying he's ripping off Plant. Reminds me of the "Scott Stapp stole Eddie Vedder's voice" argument. As long as they're not ripping of Zep's songs, why should anyone care?
Not only is it in their music like the above mentioned but in the singers mannerisms on stage. Watch both him and Plant on stage and tell me he's not just copying him.
They aren't a zep ripoff, I hear zep in them obviously I also hear rush, Janis Joplin, heart, early Aerosmith, all artists whose roots are in the blues, zep played homage to their idols in almost everything they played, just be glad there is some real music getting back in the mainstream which will hopefully open up the door for a return to real rock
Agreed, I even pick up touches of White Stripes/Jack White in the vocal and a bit of Chris Stapleton's guitar work in a couple tracks off "From the Fires". Their front man's yell though, that's straight up Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey right there, they're the only ones that seem to have really come before with that same kind of yell he has.
Andrew Mottsey I completely agree with you....I hear many of my favorite bands/singers in this great, new, very refreshing band. Rock on, GVF...and get your butts up to Northern California soon!! You have tons of fans up here.
They are a Zeppelin rip off...that is the objective truth. It is evident in too many ways to call it simply an influence. That being said, Led Zeppelin are one of the greatest bands of all time...and GVF are also phenomenal!
That is how you do it. You don’t mimc your favorite band. You go back in time and hear the bands that influenced it then take that inspiration for revival. Amazing approach. Love these guys.
@Lester Green GVF write their own music, or you just wanted see them stealing songs like led? So stop spreading lies, they never denied the led influence on their music. Some led fans are so neurotic, they want GVF talk about led 24/7
@Lester Green You really don't know nothing about led or Greta to say something so stupid. Or you are just a parrot incapable to think for yourself. It's ok you can be a parrot, but you should learn to make your own opinions.
@Lester Green You really like parroting, all haters says the same thing lol you guys looks like a cult repeting the same shit in every Greta video. Who is your leader? Plant listened a lot Steve Marriott, no wonder he take his style from him. But i don't care, really. I am a true music lover, i can listen both bands see the differences. Parroting others is not my thing, i know to think for myself.
Black Floyd I picked up "From the Fires" last weekend. Probably would have had it half worn out by now had it been on vinyl, then again, I could say the same about Chris Stapletons first album when I bought it a couple years ago too.
Wow, all these ignorant people. These guys listened to the same artists that most rock groups listened to. Their parents listened to the same rock and blues musicians that Plant did, thus they grew up on it.
It’s obvious they sound like Zep but why does anybody have a problem with that? That’s a GOOD thing. Plus. These guys write their own songs. Zep SOUNDED original but the early songs were mostly covered, stolen or developed from other artists. Honestly in today’s age it’s just so refreshing to see a young rock band kick ass. These kids do. I think their stuff is great.
No one's objecting to a band sounding like Zep, the criticism is that they sound too much like them & cross the line into ripoff territory by copying clothes & mannerisms
Yes, but many of the people that are criticizing them for copying their clothes and mannerisms ought to ease off a bit. Have they never heard of the expression "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"? They are doing nothing but putting out some great (AND their own original songs, I might add) music and paying homage to one of the greatest bands that ever recorded music, all while managing to still sound fresh! To that I say, Bravo, boys! ☺
Dawn Mackey agreed imitation can mean flattery, but there’s a limit. It’d be ok if GVF was a tribute band, but they’re not. You can’t profit off another band’s entire style & sound while insisting you’re original
If you are calling these guys a rip off then you’d have to call Zeppelin rip offs too. As many do and they kinda are. Now...I Loooooove me some Zeppelin but nearly half their songs are adopted from other tunes. Some could say stolen. I don’t really care cause they made them their own and they sounded original. They still should have given credit. My point is.....Yes......GVF clearly has drawn huge influence from Zep. And I say...Thank God for these kids....They are great and they give Rock and chance to survive. I don’t even know any “artists” from the billboard awards these days. Most aren’t even real musicians. And I’m sure GVF will develop more their own sound as they grow. I look forward to it.
Anthony Sclafani Yeah, because Zeppelin is the only band that dressed like this, there was not a single band in the 70s that even closely resembled greta van fleet besides zeppelin
I bought Led Zep II way back in 69, and they sound like the 70/72 period. They are bound to be compared with Led Zeppelin but that's not a bad thing because they pull it off so well. Not only does the singer sound like Robert Plant at times but the drummer also has a style that is not unlike John Bonham's. If they want to put out more stuff that sounds like Zeppelin then that's great but they do have a style that isn't so Zeppelin too. It's a bit unfair to think of them as a Zeppelin clone. Creedence Clearwater Revival also has an influence of some kind and the singer reminds me of someone else but I can't quite place who that might be. I hope they are around for a fair while to come. As three of them are brothers they may well be.
So musically talented and respectful of musician's past and present-just respectful in general! I don't even need to wish them the best these guys will soar.
But, MegaCrasherMusic? Didn't that same guy blatantly rip-off ... Howlin' Wolf, Willie Dixon & Muddy Waters, as well? lol lol And what about Randy California and Spirit? Let's discuss that one, okay?
Heey. Enough with the Disney kid comments. Page was 23 & Plant was 20 when Zep I came out. They are about the same age. Just give them a lil more time on the road to have a mud shark incident and the guitar player to start dabbling in the occult and heroin and you'll start to become a fan, Angel.
So exciting. I’m way to young (21) to have been around when zeppelin was banging I was sad knowing I’ll never rock out to a page solo during a live performance or scream my lungs out to Roberts’s singing or Bob my head till I get a concussion due to JB’s savage drum playing....Nobody could ever replicate and replace zeppelin BUT this band specifically is a really alive blues rock/hard rock band. Their live performances are intense and I hope that they will get even more recognition because they’re bringing back nice music from another generation to our generation which is fucking awesome. Hopefully one day maybe in 50 years the kids will look back and say “hey you sound like Greta van fleet” haha or even still remember zeppelin. I don’t think zeppelin will be forgotten so it’s good to see the torch being passed on from musician to musician. One day Greta van fleet will have their very own sound which can take years, they’re so young and have time. But right now they are ON FIRE. Sick as band keep going and playing freely
This band is good. All of you people complaining sound just as annoying as the old folks from back in the day complaining about how rock music was changing. Grow with the times yall, i bet the irony is lost on you anyway.
i said the irony would be lost on you, guess i was right. and Cover bands gotta start somewhere. It seems you're okay with them for now so my comment was not intended for you but enjoy that dunk u think u got.
Javierm0n0 "Grow with the times" they're a Zep rip off. If anything they're going backwards. (Which is fine with me cause I can't stand today's music) I'm glad someone is doing it. I just wish they would lay off the copy cat BS. They're all talented, hopefully they'll grow into a truly original sound just like Zep did way back when
When he winked at the camera my pants dropped to the floor. Haha they are a good looking band and so much talent. I’m glad rock n roll is getting the recognition it deserves all thanks to GVF.
If you get respect from Plant the god/legend himself you know. Time tells. This is the greatest band in the past 10-20 years that makes us realize rock and roll isn't dead. RESPECT!! TOOL is here for us too!!
Not all of their music/songs sound like Zeppelin. Love that they have zeps sound in some songs bc ima old Zeppelin freak, but they're original sound as well. They've definitely hit the Big leauges early in their career, and I love these guys!☮️☮️☮️☮️
+MindFull sound like Zep, act like Zep & copy their mannerisms, dress like Zep...there's a limit. GVF might have a wide range of influences, but at the moment they copy LZ too much. Glad a new young band's getting attention, but they need to stop copying & at least mix in other influences
Gvf hear my call, please come to Saskatoon canada some time in the future please i, as many fans in Canada would love to see you guys live . (I wish) :(
damn, here I am on the road with my band, grinding, poor, loving music, creating new fans, taking risks with new sounds, pushing the limits, creating our own blueprint. I wonder if they've ever had ramen noodles on a hot plate, stranded on the side of the road. We don't sound like our Dad's but the passion of rock and music lives in our DNA, I really hope they evolve, I live in a rock and roll apocalypse.
I look at it like this. Think of all the really young GVF fans that are discovering Zeppelin for the first time because of these guys. I love GVF!! I love Zeppelin!!?
I was so amazed by their sound. I never thought I'd hear another person with a voice like Robert Plant. They should cover a Zeppelin song sometime, they'll make Robert cry like Nancy Wilson did. People should quit calling them a knock off of Zeppelin though, those are original songs not covers.
Bottom line Rob Plant and Jimmy Page learned licks and musical technique from the old blues guys. It is how this works. Everyone learns from the previous players. These guys will impress even the most neg speak out there. Time is on their side.
There is a difference between inspiration and completely taking the nuances of Plant's voice and his performance mannerisms and just making that his thing. I could even sense awakwardness even in the interview when Plant was mentioned, they just played it off as "oh we must've grown up on the same music as him" 🤨
rock/metal music is a father/mother pass down to child thing. hiphop is not about that. its about moving to the new song and forgeting the old songs. that how it is at my school. i love u greta van fleet
Funny how everyone criticizes this band for sounding like Zeppelin, when they were pretty much a cover band in their early days, who didn't give credit to the original writers no less
stealing things and using them is different to a cover band, they pinched lyrics here, a riff there and some vocal melodies, on the first two albums quite a bit. But they were original, which is why greta van fleet are annoying because they write average songs in the vain of led zep simply because their singer has an insanely good robert plant-esque voice
More power to Greta, so the hit the Zepplelin vein in music , Zeppelin is long gone . Take it and run with it . Make some good blues based rock and roll with it ... Ready for these guys to come out with a great new album ..
They are so much more than a Zeppelin clone. Robert Plant never belted at the register for the length that Josh does in Edge of Darkness, and the entire group sounds outstanding live.
To everyone complaining about how they sound. At least they are out there doing music, playing their own instruments. Not lip singing to stuff and forgetting to move their mouth in time to the recording. Give the kids some credit OR get out there yourself and do a BETTER job than they are doing.
