Bloody hell , these are good, rock n roll has just risen from the ashes. Who the hell cares who their influences are. They write their own excellent songs. Rock is back.... THANK GOD
I am an original LZ fan, from the late 60's. There is nothing about this band that disappoints. Their music is energized, great vocals, and wonderful lead playing.
As a HUGE Led Zep fan, I've gotta say, this is very, very good. These guys are addicting to watch and listen to. A man my age can only hope they last a long, long time! They may be like Zep, but the more times you listen to them, the more unique they are, and when you compare them to today's "music", they are in the elite status.
Yes they have been listening to early Zep albums in their sleep, BUT this is a Whole Lotta Fun.. Nothing wrong with bringing back some Blues based rock
OMGosh, do these kids know what their doing????? Now all the kids are gonna wanta be just like them. Next thing you know we all have new music to listen to again. You can't teach, this it's from deep down in these kids. Ever played in a band and didn't like what you were playing, night after night? Their smiling and inviting, fresh. o yea, Incredible!!!!!!
Seriously. Do these guys make a bad song? FANTASTIC!! People forget ALL bands are influenced. It’s how you iterate and grow the sound that makes you unique.
Guitar Player Highway Tune, Safari Song, Edge Of Darkness, When The Curtain Falls, Mountain Of The Sun, Flower Power, Lover Leaver Taker Believer, Talk On The Street, Black Smoke Rising. Plenty of great/memorable songs.
At first I really hated that everyone compared them to one of my favorite bands, Zeppelin, and his voice to Roberts but then while driving I heard safari song (or whatever it's called) and I really enjoyed it and I thought "wow. I'm constantly complaining about how awful newer music is and now here's this amazing band with incredible talent and I didn't give them the time of day because they didn't measure up to zeppelin" (in my mind). they are an amazing band. Very talented. I'm really starting to enjoy their music the more I listen. I'm a hard core classic rock/blues fan and I can use my ears and give the credit these guys deserve. They appreciate and respect the same music I love so much and where influenced by it as well. What's wrong with that? nothing. It's amazing. So glad these guys came around in this time where pop has taken over.
I'm 56, and DJ'd for several years at a Classic Rock radio station in Texas. What impresses me most about Greta Van Fleet is their youthfulness and musicianship. It's almost impossible to find a band this young and tight. And I'm hearing a hell of a lot more than Zeppelin here, a lot of Cream and Rush, Humble Pie and in their slower songs some prog-rock influences too. I just hope they can survive the wave of hype they are going to get and not become a one-hit-wonder band.
Frankly, you can't berate pioneers, but I just listened to a day's worth of Jimmy, Robert and John, and all their tempos sounded lazy and sloppy, but that was the "white" standard at the time. These dudes push the same stuff up to another level.
Royce Lerwick - Did you say Zep tempos are lazy and sloppy??? You must have been listening to late 70s drugged out Zeppelin. When they came out they were FIRE. As much as I love GVF they haven’t hit THAT height. Some of the later Zep shows were a mess I’ll give ya that. Listen to anything from 72 or prior. Jimmy was also a MONSTER in 73. It was down hill from there.
MGuitarZ77 No, just that these guys have more energy, more like the original RnB and blues players. I'm an old fart and remember when Zeppelin was "new."
My thoughts exactly David Shields! Zep fan since the early 70's, but Zep is no longer, so it is very refreshing to finally had a very good new you band that has that Zep sound, I just love it...still rockin' in my earlly 60's and will still be doing it for as long as I live. I've already ordered one of their cd's to put in my car so I can crank it up and do some rockin while driving. And, will order their debut album as soon as it come out...going to get the vinyl! I just found out that vinyl is making a comeback!
It seems that both young and older people seem to really like them but the generations in between are the critics. I think they are fantastic, and they are bringing back the 60s- early 70s sound that I adore.
Just remember folks - When Zeppelin was out touring and making albums, a lot of their contemporaries really did not like them. Clapton said they were "Unnecessarily loud" and Keith Richards couldn't stand Plant's voice. GVF catches a lot of flack for sounding like Zeppelin, well I would rather they sounded like Zeppelin than Bieber!! Rock on boys!
This is the real Greta Van Fleet, A hot rocking blues band. I love this vid. It demonstrates some deep blues roots beyond the Zep comparisons. Stage productions and sound are really starting to shape up. I could listen to his Presley all night long - mama.
I don't mean to be that guy but this is actually exactly the type of thing Zeppelin did. Listen to live performances of Whole Lotta Love and there's a medley section that would usually include songs like Boogie Chillun, That's alright mama etc.
I was going to say the same thing as James. Though this is good, it is basically a cover of Led Zeppelin that you can hear on The Song Remains The Same.
Jake Nikoli I agree - but it certainly is a recast of the Zep “Whole Lotta Love” live jamout they routinely played from 69-73. Same songs for the most part with some different lyrics in place of “Boogie Chillun” except that the music is exactly the same. That said, I don’t give a damn - I like it! Nice to see someone doing it because Zep sure as hell isn’t going to do it anymore, and neither is anybody else, it seems.
The Rock Medley was a standard part of the Concert formula in that period. Many Groups used it. Groups like Uriah Heap and Queen ( Sha na na of course at Woodstock "the Hop") recorded and committed the Rock Medley to vinyl. ... and regardless they are refreshingly nostalgic. I think in the long run as they transition from "gimmick" to who they are. I suspect they will be somewhere between the Black Crows and Zep in my catalog.
Many groups use the medley formula, they just happened to use the very same exact formula (the same songs in their medley) as Zep did in the early 70's. To me Greta Van Fleet is an amazing cover band. They have the talent to be a lot more, but right now that it is what they sound like.
They fit perfectly in the 21th century to show that music is done by hand and skill... + they show respect to music history in the best way possible. They will have a bright future and possibly don´t have to suffer the exploit from the music industry as their role models in the 60s/70s.
Most of the haters can't play shit and wouldn't know what it takes to be this good. Greta Van Fleet has that it factor. To sound this good at their age is nothing short of fantastic.
We definitely need another Zeppelin, another Doors, another Jimi, another Janice. Sick of the shit that is passed off as rock these days!. Start the revolution!!
The remake never comes close to the original. They haven't wriitren a breakthrough song. This woukd be a LZ tribute band if the kid could sing the blues.
Rich Talladega I agree that we need Rock again but your not going to get another Doors with a Jim Morrison ever again! He was a one off. With Ray Manzeraks playing ability along with Robbie Kriegers brilliant guitar playing and John Densmores excellent percussion? Good luck ever finding that kind of musicianship again! To my mind they were the best American Band ever! Janis too! She was a blues rock powerhouse! Another Hendrix? Maybe. Gary Clark’s a good player but as good as Hendrix? I don’t think so. Anyway, I hope your right!. I’m happy with this Band of Brothers for now!
How about we cut these guys a break and give them some time! Half of them just got out of gym class! I'm glad to see some young people listen to this and enjoy playing it. It's only rock and roll .
These guys feel the music they are doing not trying to be Zep, I hope fame does not burn them out quickly. They brought back the REAL inspired classic rock sound, I love it
This is a great young band that is only going to get better with time! Who cares if they sound like Zeppelin. Every band has their musical influence that show through in their music. All Zeppelin fans wish they were back. Greta Van Fleet might be the closest you get to that. Great job at the Limelight Eventplex the other night Greta Van Fleet.
Thank you to GVF... about time we heard some Blues-based rock/hard rock.... sick & tired of of all these rap/hip hop... just real people playing real instruments and singing with their God given voice.....no sampling, no auto-tune, no laptop based music!!!! just the real music!!!!
This kind of music runs in my blood and sings in my soul! Don't care how many years I've been on this planet the music never gets old and I've seen the best bands in person from Ziggy Stardust to Summer Jam 1973 (Allman Bros, Grateful Dead, The Band), Pink Floyd, Yes, Clapton, The Boss, Jethro Tull, Dylan etc. Hoping to add GVF to this lineup!
I've been a Zep fan for over forty years and I love this band. I read a comment that said "we need to take a step backwards in order to move forward". I rather listen to these kids than to all that garbage that's being churned out. Shit, my band covers Zep and it's a great fucken feeling. Let these kids have fun. GVF rocks!!!
Verrry talented, each and every one of them. That’s the ingredients for greatness. Jams like this have not been around since the 60’s and 70’s. Yes, they’re reinterpreting some old stuff, but it’s evolved. They have tech that wasn’t around way back when, and they have their own charisma and flair. Well done! Hope they shut down the other crap that passes for music now days.
I went high school from 70 to 74. the 70's were the golden era guitar rock. lead playing had become a real art. the prog bands of the era prove that. then came the gods of rock. zep, queen, tull, almond bros, r. Gallagher and on and on. after all these 40 years or5so it's nice to see and hear very young bands (with actual brothers playing together) shakin em on down. never listen to critics, listen to your souls and PLAY FOR YOURSELVES. As Greeny said "PLAY ON" Peace and Love young brothers.
All I can say is, I'm happy they are together. I grew up on 70's rock and It's my favorite. It's pleasing to see music like this still being played. Instead of that talent-less auto tune BS of today. They have the talent and put on one hell of a show. Josh's voice is heavenly, it's a total gift! Can't wait to see them this summer. LONG LIVE ROCK! Let's all just enjoy the music.✌
I just love them! I happen to think it's very original material. Even the cover songs are great and have their own style. Finally a rock band for my generation!!
Such an awesome band! Doing the style of music I grew up on. No selling out, jumping on the bandwagon, mainstream pop like other kids their age. I'm loving it!
So great to see a young band playing real rock music. I have seen many rock bands in my life including Zeppelin. These kids are the real deal. May they be blessed with a long successful career.
I think hating is is an internet thing. and spreads because people attach great importance to a comment The spontaneous reaction is what counts and I'm big fan of Led Long live this darn
Fantastic. Only a mic on the bass drum. Oooosssshhhhh. The guys can play and get their levels right with just a PA for bass Drum and Voice. I bet everyone had a fucking great night out and the mate who pulled out to stay at home to watch TV will hear how great they were and will regret that they thought R n R wasn’t important to them anymore. 😉 PS First drummer in a long time who can actually tune his kit. What a joy. Bring on London.
this is cool , showcases them more when just improvising , blues never dies, like them best when just being selves like in this.. like when they cover tunes zep didn't do than it's fresh but still throwback and retro... continue this way and build from here... there is no reason they have to cover one zep tune so they are not directly compared , that's the path I would take if running this group
Their music is great....they have a lot of blues and folk influences like all the 60-70's bands did...that kid has some pipes...Love Highway tune...Keep it up lads!!!
It’s upsetting to me that I had no clue these Kiszka boys existed. So very grateful that I’ve now seen them live in a full show and can’t wait till next time
They are growing on me like the family I am accustom to. I am betting the deserve the full boat. These guy's are modest and handle everything in a professional manner. Three brothers and the drummer fits in there too!
Freakin’ love these guys! Makes me think of my days playing in bands in the 80’s. Australia’s Twelve Foot Ninja & Greta Van Fleet make me enjoy music as I did all those years ago. 2 totally different types of bands but they are doing “IT” and IT is amazing! Top notch vibes! And really makes me want to be up there playing too! phenomenal
