Every aspect of Malcolm’s original guitar has been meticulously recreated including “DIY” pickup routes with simulated screw holes, thin-skin semi-gloss finish for a true “tour-worn” feel and single TV Jones Power’Tron bridge pickup. The chambered mahogany body with maple top provides that hard hitting tone with powerful snap Malcolm was famous for.

@Landslide most of the riffs are actually malcolms, they had them in the vault, they worked them in the new album, so Evan has even more egg on his face, seeing as he does not recognize malcolm's handiwork

Yep, and Malcolm smoked like a Rasta too! Malcolm Mitchell Young was a peerless irreplaceable & perfect example of what a brilliant talented cutting-edge hard/heavy rock rhythm guitarist should be. Far too much AC/DC is grossly insufficient, woefully inadequate and nowhere near enough.

I have been searching and searching for a good demonstration of the tv Jones powertron!!!! Nobody on RU-vid plays blues when they demo them or they usually demo the classic, mark Kendall from great white is my favorite player of all time and he claims to use the powertrons now but I’ve never heard him play it out of a mix so thank you thank you thank you!!!!!

Great reveiew, , love that guitar. Nice riffage!! I didn't pick up guitar because of AC/DC. I had been playing electric about 2 years, due to Kiss, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Nugent. Once I heard the song Highway to Hell on the radio, I rushed out to buy the album. I was FLOORED! Thick crunchy chords and riffs. THIS was the sound I fell in love in , and the way I wanted to go. RIP MALCOLM.

- Marshall JMP 2203 1980, clean but LOUD ;) - Gretsch G6131T-62 Vintage Select This should get you really close PS funny thing, the Vintage Select '62 Jet is more expensive than the Malcolm Gretsch

The original pickup was a filtertron but they are no longer manufactured he got his original gretsch from Harry Vanda as it was the same one he used during his time in the easybeats it was also originally red with 3 pickups malcolm stripped off the paint and removed the 2 front pickups because he never used them he would just switch them off u can see the original gretsch before it was modified in the 1974 version of "can I sit next to you girl" with Dave Evans on vocals it's on RU-vid also in that video malcolm and Angus both played lead plus Malcolm's beast has a burns vibrato tailpiece his sound depended heavily on string tension hence why the strings are pulled back to the burns vibrato tailpiece

Originally had two pickups. Malcolm added a third and then took two out. It was a stock 63 Jet Firebird when he was given the guitar.

A lot of guitar players learn multiple pickups are unnecessary just the bridge PU and volume only and disconnect tone pot . It BLAST POWER , MALCOLM was brutal rhythm player I was raised listening to AC/DC . RIP

Depends on what you play. Most rock n metal the actual voice of the guitar is masked by the distortion. You need all the pickups n the tone knobs if you play blues or other stuff with more variety.

@Richard Royal Standard tuning dude. In the old days they tuned to each other by ear so wasn't always 440 like album back in black. it's a bit lower than standard E but higher than E flat.

Benjamin Nielsen He got them from a hardware store. The buttons were for the back of pictures or artwork so the frame would be off the wall.

Im a huge Malcolm fan and have tried this guitar, I have to say I am very disappointed in the pickup - the powertron actually doesn't sound like Malcolm's real tone - way too much gristle and fizz. In the custom shop version they used the TV jones classic pickup which is much more vintage gretsch, I don't know why they equipped this with the Powertron.

I have to agree as well. The PowerTron from is too hot and thick sounding for it's intended goal here. A standard TVJ Classic would suit this guitar much better.

Sorry, this guitar was cool on Malcolm, couse it was his answer to this guitar. But at all others, this guitar looks like a bad joke. Yes the sound is good. But the sound would be the same, when Grtetsch builds this Guitar with no holes for the never build in pickups. Sorry, my thoughts.

The minimum that you should have done would be to learn the Malcolm's parts, instead of playing Angus in the Gretsch without distinction... And, yeah, you're far from sounding like Malcolm! I bet you'd say the same about EVH's first Frankenstrat. Malcom Young had the guitar given to him when they were recording with AC/DC early on. He then modified it by adding a Gibson humbucker to the middle position and he swapped out the bridge and tailpiece a few times.. then he got rid of everything he didn't need so he stripped the paint and took out the middle and neck pickups. Gretsch did a run of his 'modified' version aswell.
