I am so pleased that I found you and your excellent videos which are full of wisdom - no doubt gained from years of ‘interesting’ greyhound experiences and a common sense approach to living with greyhounds. Here in Australia, it is usual for a ‘trial’ period of a few weeks, to see how we all fit together before the adoption papers are formalised. Apart from some strong pulling when walking and certainly what I think is a strong prey drive , our 6 year old Greyhound is doing very nicely. But of course, it is early days for both of us, and I’m keen to be aware of potential problems that may arise. So many friends have encouraged me to adopt a greyhound and so when, my last terrier left me, I started the seriously think about it. My greyhound is calm and loving and brings me such joy that even after just 2 weeks, it’s hard to imagine life without her. Thank you for your videos!
Ah yes. The mud slip and slide my lawn became getting a hound coming into winter. Luckily my boy is very picky with what he eats, and only snacks on the tallest, softest grass stalks, and shows no interest in anything else. Will grow him some dog grass come summer, and i think that will keep him happy.
Thank you, a very lovely little Channel with interesting Toppings...well narrated and supervised from your lovely Greys...i can say everything is true ..got my wonderful Grey Boy from Ireland two Years ago and will never get anything else again..even without ans grass left in my yard...😂🤷🏼♂️ Greetings from Germany...🙋🏼♀️
Thank you for this video on gardens and greyhounds. Here’s my experience so far…..we got our lovely greyhound in December last year so have nearly experienced all seasons with him in the garden. Our boundaries are very secure, high walls and a fence. However, cats still get in and then our greyhound goes on the chase. Luckily this has only happened a couple of times. This week he chased a cat, which got away but he has lots of stretches on his legs due to him knocking down a metal statue and a large plant pot. Any advice on how to discourage cars would be welcome. He doesn’t seem to dig (just once when a hedgehog was just the other side of the fence! ) We don’t have grass and you are right, he doesn’t like the gravel. He plays ball on the slabs and sleeps on the outside sofa on the deck. He has only stepped into the pond once, when we first got him and has learnt that’s not much fun! We also have put small barriers to borders. But he is generally good and sticks to the paths. We are both keen gardeners and I am pleased to say we haven’t had to adapt too much. He rarely toilets in the garden as he waits for his walks (we usually walk him 3 times a day) I love your weekly videos and find them useful and interesting as Pesto is our first greyhound and first dog!
Thank you :-) i can empathise with the scrapes and scratches, I have gradually adapted those items in my garden from which they are most at risk. I found the local cats have learned over time to stay away. although its a bit frustrating, a quick advance recce of the garden can shoo them away before the dog goes out. there are also spiky toppers you can put on fence panels to deter critters from walking on them if its a severe problem.
Thanks for your video on gardens and greyhounds, a topic we are just looking into with ours! We have a mixture of grass/racetrack, paving and gravel and we are trying to decide on whether to try bark chippings in an area (not cocoa based of course as ours also eats everything she can get her paws on) or perhaps self-binding gravel (like they use for paths at most National Trust type places)....
Hi, great video. I did laugh as you came to each problem. The epitome of our too. She eats the raspberries as they ripen then moves on to the fucshia flowers, and he just can't resist soil. Our garden has plastic border fencing, slate chips and pots with protective coverings as much as possible. Bentley and Porsche are so loveable it's all worth it. Thank you 😊💐
Great video. I have a topic you could look in to, if you would be so kind. and that’s how to stop your greyhound eating dried or cat poop dog poop my greyhound is always scavengering when on a walk sniff sniff ohhh cat poop yummy. Drives me nuts I need eyes like a greyhound lol. I use a harness but seriously considering a gentle leader to stop this.
