Greyhounds are not like other dogs! Growing up in kennels, training to race and moving to a home as an adult mean they have their own quirks and needs when they retire. JW Canine Care draws on many years of experience to bring you videos on everything greyhound-related, from basic care for their specific needs to homing a greyhound to working on behaviour issues.
Check out our new video each Monday, or for a bit more fun, our Shorts on Fridays. We also have 3 monthly lives, on Mondays, 7pm GMT or BST...look out for details each month in the community posts.

You're doing an amazing job Jill and still making videos. It'll all be worth it I'm sure. I can't imagine how our 2 would cope, sensitive creatures that they are. Thinking about you. Sending helpful thoughts 😊
We use a half length equestrian lunge line. It has a normal handle around the wrist at our end and a very sturdy clip at the other. The slack is easily controlled with the free hand. We are perhaps fortunate in having a very laid back, friendly, placid lad. As he's a big boy (about 40kg) it's just as well that he is so well adjusted. The downside is that he just wants to greet everybody, human, canine, whatever. Everyone is a potential friend, although they may not agree.
Good luck with the next part of the move. Wishing you all the best for life in your new home. Hiring a removals firm to do the moving and packing is such a smart idea!
omg,im staying put..my sheds and attic is like a treasure trove,i wouldnt know where to start, years of hoarding and things i save and dont use...but things are sentimental.any way good luck in your move jill......
Best of luck with the move Jill, i hope you'll get the chance to rest and recover when it's all over (although I appreciate that's an ambitious notion with 5 dogs!)
Good luck with the rest of the moving process. It is stressful but it can be over more quickly when you're organised. What helped me when I last moved 21 years ago, was clearly labelling boxes for my immediate needs, eg tea and coffee, kettle etc, bedding and towels. Those came with me in my car and the rest went in the removal van. That way, no matter what I had the basics and could make up my bed. I hope you'll love your new home and making it a haven for you and your lovely dogs. I'll look forward to hearing more about how it's all going.
Thank you! I packed some boxes for things I would need straight away - only I didn't think it through carefully enough and ended up not being able to find so fairly critical stuff - like bed sheets!
Good job on keeping the Terry Pratchett paperbacks, and on going through with the process. We used to rent, which meant moving every two to three years. Buying a house to stay in permanently was such a relief, and I'm sure you'll feel the same once you're settled.
Using a removal firm to pack as well as move is a very good idea. I did this last time I moved and it was worth every penny. Best of luck with your last week and moving day. Looking forward to an update when you are settled and have had a breather.
Really pleased for you Jill. I'm really glad you found a place that suits. A lot of hard work but well worth it. Wishing you and the gang many happy days to come and a smooth move. Until next time, "keep calm and bark on" 😉😜😘
Best wishes Jill. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I am happy for you about the new place. I bet once your there. You will tell yourself, I wish I would have done this 10 years ago.
There is so much to do before you move, but I hope that you are excited about going to your new home Jill? What area will you be moving to? Blessings and Good Luck for your move, from Jilly & Madge xxx
TBH, it all became so overwhelming I just wanted it to stop...and at the same time I was so worried it would fall through (we had a lot of problems) that I didn't dare get excited about it. I very much hope not to have to do it again!
@@jwcaninecare The whole thing is a nightmare, and I know because I moved 7 times in 10 years! I only had one dog, and that was bad enough - I just hope you get settled into your new house soon. Blessings, Jilly & Madge xxx
I was shocked to see that one greyhound snapping his teeth.. The only time I see my greyhounds teeth is when I brush them or when I toss a soft treat from across the room and she catches it. She also sleeps with her eyes open. When I go for walks, big dogs have come near her and start barking.. She doesn't even look at them or react in anyway. My son brings his German Shepard and immediately runs towrds my dog. She stands up and acts like a royal guard. She will stand there until the other dog gives up, then she lays back down. My first greyhound would get inbetween me and my Bigscreen tv and would start bucking like a horse and it means she wants to go out. This one uses a stuffed toy and will pick it up and toss it at me.. time to go potty or if I am in my room, she will start pounding on door and when I open it, she sprints down the stairs and stands at the door to go out.
Yes, we have some sad days. My 1st grey would sometimes destroy a toy in minutes after such a wonderful play with intention. It even came to us guessing game on how long in seconds it would last. Sometimes surprising if it lasted more than 60sec.😂 Thanks for sharing
