Griffiths Gnat 

Man , brings me back . I still have a few tiny flies like that from when I started tying in my late teen years . No glasses , no magnifier , size 22-24 Tiemco hooks . Now , I have a hard time tying a 16 " with " glasses and a magnitier . Nice little fly .

my favorite fly. I've caught a small brown trout in the Current River in Missouri on a Griffiths Knat, and as well as one wild rainbow (not native in MO so that's cool) on a Griffiths Knat at Blue Springs Creek. All the other trout I caught on one was at stocked trout parks/lakes. I can't wait to catch one on my homemade fly.

I tied them as as small as # 28. and I was the only one catching trout on the Housatonic River on fine August day. The key to it is good feathers, thank you Metz and Whiting Good hurl and a fine thread. Back in the day I used a thin mono threat that was white and colored it with a black pen marker. Dave I fished the Swift a number of times, you got that right about the Gnat.

I crated a fly smiler to this one but instead of peacock hurl I just use a small piece of hackle around 2-3 raps and tie off works grate when there hitting on nats grate vidoe by the way. I'm going to have to tie a few of these

Awesome video sir! I love tying and fishing with these flies. Don't let the simplicity deceive you, this is a productive fly. I caught my first rainbow trout on this fly, so I'm a bit partial to it.

I'll try a Griffith's Gnat any time trout are rising to something small and I don't know what it is, so yes all season. If fish aren't rising, I don't use them, but that's just me.

Where do you get your hooks?

Is it better to tie it with grizzly hackle that is more on the white side or the black side?

What is the little tool called that you measure the hackle in ??

Do you use floatant on these
