we grilled some corn last night with our chicken fajitas. I started off on the grill and after about 10 minutes of turning it every so often, I wrapped it in foil and moved it to the top to finish cooking. Finished off with some Lime-Butter with fresh cracked black pepper. Good stuff
That works too. It definitely smells better when grilling. Sometimes I just don't like to mess with the burnt husk. It can make a mess on the table, and the plates.
Thanks for sharing this video. I like to cook corn on the grill, and one of my favorite methods is using a little mayo and chili powder in place of the butter, salt and pepper. When I cook it on the grill, I usually put it directly on the heat for about 10 minutes per side and then move them up to the top rack for an additional 10 minutes. Tastes great!
Great question. If you want high heat from a charcoal grill use more coals and don't wait too long after the flames die down to start cooking. When I do corn like this on a charcoal grill I always place them on the outer edge of the grill with the lid on and the vents open. Hope this helps.
@jeremyschappert I think you're right. This was one of our first videos that we using a wireless mic. I have since read the manual a few times ha ha.... =]
@vio2112 Grilling is high heat hitting the product. This alone produces a flavor all its own on the grilled product. Seasoning the corn before grilling adds more flavor. I like grilling with the husk too, but it can make a mess.
I made this today! :) It turned out great! The only problem I had was when I tried to cook the steaks in the last 10 min, and from opening and closing the grill the corn was cold. But i just threw it back on the grill for a bit and it was delicious! :) Thanks!
Hi vikaleeanessa. About foil. Some believe that the shiny side, if let on the outside, will reflect some the heat that cooks the food. Wrapping your food touching the shiny side will bring more heat to the food. I never heard of this while working in kitchens. I have also read that it makes no difference in cooking, and that foil naturally has a shiny side and dull side by the way it is produced. My personal preference is to leave shiny side out. It attracts the eye....
@AsperityGuild That sounds terrific! I have a video on a kalamata olive butter. Homemade seasoned butter is great on so many things. I'll try your parmesan and garlic butter next time we make corn! Cheers, Jason
I don't like to use my oven in the summer. It heats up the house too much. Sure charcoal adds flavor, but so does seasoning and marinades which work great for a gas grill and/or charcoal grill.
Jeff , Very straight ,direct, and to the point on the instructions! If a woman had done it the video would have taken up threal time it takes to cook the corn , she'd have been telling you how to knit cute little pot holders and whart kind of hair spray not to use near and open flame etc.. going all Martha on us! :-) Blessings, Warren
i just got back from turkey and they sell loads of it there, even before its cooked its BRIGHT yellow and there so cheap, i ate so much corn on the cob there, they butter and salt it :D nice video btw
Hello! If you grill with the husks on, soak them in water 30 minutes before grilling. Grill until the corn is done. I would quarter turn them every 5 to 7 minutes.
Jason, Fantastic! I will stop just putting the corn on the grill in the husks. Poor results that way and it is hard to strip off the husks with the corn hot!
nice video, if you soak the corn in the husk for an hour, gently open ear and remove silk, rub with olive oil or butter, salt and your favorite herb, or just plain is good too
Did I ingest the aluminum in the video? And I don't recall grilling corn in culinary school. Must have been sick that day. Soaking in water will not prevent burning of the husks. I have tried it. The only way you can grill the husk without burning is to cook them on the grill way off to the side away from direct heat. This will double the cooking time.
thanks for the tips!!! i'm grilling at this very moment and your method is fast and easy.... hope the finished product looks and taste as good as yours! :-)
Hello. I like grilling the corn in the foil so I can season the corn before cooking. On the 4th I did this with a seasoned butter that I seasoned with chili powder and fresh lime zest. It killed! People were eating seconds!
Yes. We were having issues with our new microphone set during our first few videos using this set. Sorry about that. You'll notice the same poor audio on our grilling lobster tails video too. :-(
Looks so simple.. As I started mouth watering, I also kept wondering: what happens to the cob in those 10-15 min of grilling? Why? Because in the past two months, I have become acutely aware of the value of corn cobs. I have learned that if you let them dry up, they can be used for all sorts of cleanup jobs. They were used prior to the advent of TP, and a video on my site shows how they could help for oil spill clean up jobs and lower bp oil spill cleanup costs Dr Claude Windenberger
I put butter wraped in with the corn like a quarter stick each all around and put it on low on the top for like 40 minutes. U can't mess it up and it's amazing :) 420
I think the in husk technique is better... soak overnight in a bown sugar/sea salt brine. The husk is crucial to that sweet corn flavor, it doesn't matter if the husk gets charred, the corn inside will be fine!
@ChefTips im not sure really, something about Take each corn just makes me laugh but its all good its a good vid, its not boring, the camera and camera angle is good, i can hear you clearly, good video great corn :)
I like to cook corn in it's husk. Peel the husk back but don't take it off, de-silk it, wash it, then season it the same way as the vid, and unfold the husk putting it back in place.
I open the husk, add butter, salt and pepper, close it back up and we'll see ya. Of course charcoal grill. If I want to bake, I'll use my kitchen oven.
