I just learned of Steve's death yesterday. I met him a few times in the 80's. He was a very nice gentleman, who took the time to seek out the shy kid (me) in a very bad time in my life. He didn't know me from Adam and had no reason to do that. His death is hard on me. He was a huge influence on my own vocal style, but beyond that, he was a decent human being. Rest in Power, Steve Grimmet.
Steve Grimmett is so underated. This was one of my favorite bands growing up and still amazes me to this day how good they were.Grimmett sounded like a beast.
This band sounded so amazing. Most underrated. These guys kicked ass the maximum way and even so melodic and excellent! Steve and Nick and the whole band thanks for all, you were just so amazing!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🎸🤘 R.I.P Steve, you will be badly missed, one of the greatest and most powerful singers I have ever heard and seen! 🙏🙏🙏🤘💔🍀🍀🍀🌈🌈🌈
Ahhh.... the good ole days. Brings me back memories of my 14 year old self, listening to their album on cassette while playing my NES with games rented from the local video store and eating pizza on a Saturday night
Still have this cassette. Tomorrow I'm cranking it up at 6am before the neighbors start their loudest-landscaping-tool-i-could-buy matinee concerto SUCK IT AND SEE 🤘😈🤘
I used to rent from "popcorn n videos" summers were long. Times were so incredible and simple. We had real comedy. Not a bunch of whiney fucking cry babies....got my 83 regal and metal and my buds....
GRIM REAPER RULES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a kick ass rock band. What I love is every member excels. Singer is astounding The lead guitar is amazing The bass player totally jammin. The drummer fantastic. The song writing is superb and well above the pack. I love my Motley Crue but I'll take Grim Reaper over Crue anyday.
Jep, Steve is, not was ! Saw Grimreaper at Keep it True Festival in Gemany this Year. Awesome Gig, including an great Verssion of DIO´s "Don´t talk to strangers!!
Thank you for sharing. I'd not heard of this band in the 80's and I thought I knew them all, or most of them. Very cool though. Reminds me of back in the day! Thank you again!
0:00 rock you to hell 4:05 night of the vampire 7:47 lust for freedom 12:20 rock me til i die 17:20 fear no evil 21:12 dead on arrival 25:42 see you in hell what a voice! (not bad hair, either...) :-D
What an absolute gem of a show. So thankful this footage exists. It showcases the band at what seems to be their performative zenith. The band is super tight, but also loose and relaxed. And what else can be said about Steve Grimmett here? A tremendous vocal talent, godlike pipes, and is unlikely to ever be surpassed in this genre.
Grimmet is too good. makes the others look bad compared with Steve. this band is great. music really enhances Steve's vocals. great energy in this show. thanks a million for the upload!
I gotta say it again....I watched this live on MTV in the day....what a great night to be stayin' in on Halloween at my brother's house..I felt damn lucky to watch this....Tapped into my young rocker ways!!!
Saw this show In Kalamazoo, 6 days before this. Still have my RYTH vinyl signed by the band at the Boogie Records in-store. My Keeper of the 7 Keys is also signed by Helloween, as well as my Armored Saint Raising Fear LP. Great meeting all the bands.
Brings back some great memories. I had recorded this on my parents vcr and wore that tape out. Nick Bowcott and Steve Grimmett were on top of their game
Standard A is a real challenged to sing in. Long live Steve Grimmett. You will never be forgotten, brother…. My cover of Rock you to Hell debuts on all platforms august 02, 2024!!!
These guys were on fire back then! I wonder if they could recapture that fire if they were able to do a full on Grim Reaper reunion! Probably not unfortunately the way the music business is these days. It would be awesome to see tho! \m/
Oh no! I didn't know that Steve passed away! Rest in peace! His vocals are incredible and Heavy! Way better than most famous and rich Heavy Metal Vocalists of today !
I only just found out about this band in comment on another RU-vid video. I can't believe that I haven't heard of them before this. These guys (and especially Steve) kicked so much ass! =D **Edit** Their guitarist is pretty insane too!
Well, the bangs and the basic shape speak mullet, but the hair's too long, so maybe "mullet hybrid" would be a better name, LOL Like I said before though, Steve Grimmett had a hell of a voice, an listening to this and other old stuff here at RU-vid makes me want to go back to the 80's. There was never another time like it. But that's the good thing about good music-it outlasts everything around it and winds up getting remembered far more than those who wrote it. Time marches on...
when Korn hit the scene, a metalhead in school was claiming they were ripping off Grim Reaper. after watching some of this, I fail to see how he made that comparison
Man its a shame they broke up after this tour because Rock You To Hell was a good record and miles above the previous 2, seems like they were on a nice path upwards.
No one!!!! Not even Steve Perry.... Whom I love too compares to Steve Grimmet!!Halford...etc I am a guitarist and Nick Bowcott is one of my faves too!!!

+SCOTT FADER They have a few dozen competitors--other than Iron Maiden, Saxon, and Motorhead, they are all pretty much underrated to a greater or lesser extent
man it's because the stupid label was caught up on looks to an American audience and didn't push the promotion like they should have , man they would have blown the doors off of most the band they would have opened up for during the era man no doubt!!!!
That because they all have true talent to music not some computer drum beat. Remember the commercial is it live or is it memorex . In this case its live
This is a hell of a lot better than all the cheese metal crap that was around at the time. To think that Poison and Warrant got big around the same time and these guys stayed in relative obscurity.
+DeathShouldTakeMeNow This band was so highly underrated, but I dont remember ever hearing any crappy metal bands at the time until about 89' and early 90s.
+Metal Manimalon The 90s was the age of nu metal, the 80s the age of hair metal--I suppose we all have our own taste, but that kind of metal is clearly more commercial.
Looks had alot to do w it. Chicks accounted for a lot of the hair bands album sales (probably just to put the posters up) and im weary of thinking girls wanted a Steve Grimmett cut out on their wall. Sad really. They rock.
Didnt knew he died, didnt knew he and i shared the same month and day birthday, i attended to his gig with picture and Steve was a force of nature, aged extremely well, voice was unreal. This crush me dude, but i guess he rest in power, since he had a really delicate condition when he got a leg amputated, so he doesnt suffer anymore. This singer can rival any heavy metal singer even on his last years, he really separated the men from the boys with his chateaux lp he sang on.
I was actually at this concert, 1st Ave isn't a big place, it was packed and MTV filmed that night, the pit was harrowing and fun at the same time... had an awesome time... Grim Reaper, Helloween, and Armored Saint got to watch it on my birthday a few days later, on the actual Halloween airing on MTVs Headbangers Ball
