Just noticed this topped 500K views!! HELLIONS SCREAM IT---I'M BLIND(in your city below in comments)!!! \M/ \M/ Mine is, atm, I'M BLIND IN SPOKANE!! \M/ \M/
Blackie said Blind in Texas came from an actual experience he had when they played a gig in Texas They stayed at a ranchers house, got too drunk on home made brew.
The w.a.s.p. songs are difficult especially for the vocal parts, not only because he has an "irreproducible" voice, but also because he sings very high notes! And the amazing thing is that when he speaks, he has a much lower voice. I think he is a baritenor.
Just look at him live; it was like he broke out of prison and knew he was getting killed after the gig. The man’s energy onstage was off the charts and he still performed at such a high level. Legend for sure. I’m grateful he made it through. Blackie was a fool not to make peace.
on the one hand i hate the phones, on the other i've seen so many concerts and concert excerpts from worldwide online that i'd have never gotten to see, so in the long run thanks for the phones. it's sort of neat sometimes to go to a concert and then find footage right on youtube of the same show, even better if you didn't get to go.
Shoot me if I'm wrong, but this is probably the strongest squad there was. I love this era! Johnny Rod with his rock and roll' energy on bass and backing vocals, Blackie back on the axe. (vitamine injection) and the confidence of tourin' a couple of years - PURE F*IN DYNAMITE!
Without doubt the most under rated band ever, why these guys never ruled the planet is a travesty. Saw them twice and they were bang on it every time, I am 60yrs old now but I am still a wild child.
@@AllOuttaBubblegum123 yeah, this is the lineup that for me is W.A.S.P. All the changes over the years was weird, anyone who was a fan from the 80's has to remember every so often different players would pop up. I remember saying what happened to so and so? Bands did it but W.A.S.P did it more.
@@texasturner2313 JR most likely could've fronted his own band if he had to, I have a feeling if Chris Holmes and Johnny Rod lived near each other JR would sing in Chris's band. By the sounds of it Chris could use a good singer.
Johnny’s goof but my WASP includes Randy Piper on guitars with Chris Holmes. They were for Wasp the same as Adrian & Dave of Maiden was and Slash & Izzy of GnR.
As a 13 year old I watched this bemused, never seen or heard anything like this, but it struck something in me.....here we are 30plus years later still a metal head !!
I've loved W.A.S.P since I first heard "Live...in the raw" back when I was about 15 yrs old and never get enough of their old live recordings. Blackie always brought the energy and the songs were thick and aggressive.
So much energy and and melody in Blackie's voice....till today. WASP always had good songs beside their extravagant image...it was the eighties. A full colour decade.
I really like Johnny Rod in W.A.S.P! He is such a talented bassist, great live performer and he does insane backing vocals. Remember the Crimson Idol-tour? His vocals there are fantastic! Furthermore, he is the nicest guy ever. I worked as a roadie at a King Cobra-concert recently and I got to speak to Johnny. Nicest guy ever! We ended up talking for like half an hour about music, life on the road etc. Epic musician through and through
Всегда обожал эту команду , а это просто , вообще , моя юность ( молодость ) ! Даже сам не знаю , как сказать !? А впрочем , какая разница . W.A.S.P.- жив !
Blackie's voice always sounds so good in these 80's clips, it's incredible to think that he almost ruined it before the band ever really took off. He had to go six weeks without talking back in 82 to save his voice.
This is why smaller shows are the best. Look at that audience right up in your face; that's how it's supposed to be! Blackie is the most underrated singer in the history of rock and roll.
All the rock shows I've seen were huge crowds with only 3 exceptions and all three were memorable because of the smaller venue and crowds. One was Dio wow.
@@terrydahill8248 I saw Wolfsbane and me and my mate and a couple others were only ones there. They still played their hearts out The singer later went on to join Iron maiden. (Blaze Bailey)
Yes, he sounds just like a wasp. Moreover I feel sorry for the people that don't feel an appreciation for the band. Their music is Life giving. Roy. Missouri
What a great voice and one of my favorite bands of all time. Love seeing this. Blackie was so underrated but glad I found them and it started for me in 1985 and still a fan. Blackie is religious now and GOD Bless him is all I can say. The whole band was top notch players.
Their debut album WasP was released when I was 15. I was a fan soon as I listened. They have a powerful sound and should have been even bigger. One of my all time fav bands. This performance is amazing🔥🔥
Sorry for the late reply... You are welcome! This was 1 of 100 bootlegged DVD rips I got back in the day. It was the best of the bunch, & wasn't on youtube, so I HAD to post it!! \m/ ]m/
I have a lot of respect for Blackie , he always looks really sober when he performs , and you can tell it is important to him that they put on the greatest show they are capable of. Not to mention his voice is just plain bitchin .
In the mid 80's he already was quite experienced professional and had a lot of touring experience from 70's long before WASP was formed. He probably saw many warning signs of sex & drugs & rock n roll -life and destroyed careers, and was smart enough to do his job properly.
bigrigJim As YPO6 says, Blackie was a lot more professional than most of the other musicians he was lumped in with, even though he was only a couple years older than the hair metal guys. He'd lived through the spectacular flaming disintegration of the New York Dolls and I suspect that he never, ever wanted to have to go through that again. Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, who was in a band called Sister with Blackie Lawless back in the very early 80s, has said that Blackie would drink alcohol but he wouldn't do any drugs.
@@zemosgirl blackie is born in 56, randy in 53, randy in 56, richard in 1954... they were from another time.. when most of others were born ib the eary60s to end 60s ...wasp is at heart a heavy balls out metal 70s band who survived .. in anohter way, like mercyful fate . they were there long before inn the background, and they were only influenced by the first wave of metal in late 60s early 70 s etc...no iron maiden influence involved . but with convergences more modern and radical who influenced speed , thrash, and especialy death and black metal.. i never understand why wasp was lumped with others LA act when they were in their own world and more more heavier and they were horrific at first.. not pretty .. they werent in the hair metal scebne, and they werent really in the thrash scene, even they influenced the movement and could do it if you had listened recordings previous the first LP in 1984.. the b sides, and the demos of stuff like show no mercy, the torture nver stops..; master of disaster .. that and Sister , it was very dark, radical abd agressive, gritty.. than the wasp most people know .. Sister was 1976/78 .. it was wasp but the underground version balls out heavy metal , with more scary blackie voice and extreme .. with if we look at it wth the wasp from 1981/1983... and what happened after, in the gutty stuffn the stage act, the attitude , even and the outfits ... they were more scary and serious than venom , more credible in the stufff (and before with sister, the pentagram thing, th e face make up and stuff,)and i think black metal, and death metal, took more from wasp and sister than anything else .. the chain mic etc etc.. people didnt understood , but to me KFD was the ghost of the Sister ...
Blackie was one of my heroes in my teens. Used to love listening to radio interviews with him. He very articulate and also great at commanding a crowd. They should release 'Videos in the raw' on DVD. My VHS is worn out.
My very first Concert was W.A.S.P., Armored Saint & and a lil band called Metallica. Ride the Lightning tour. Hung out with Johm Busch nd Gonzo of Saint nd then later that evening came across Chris Holmes and Steve Riley before the show...as a 13yr old kid it was f**king amazing!! #Kalamazoo State Teatre
Man, I wish I could go back to the time when I first discovered WASP. I was 10 and they blew my mind. Since then I moved on to death metal, but I will always cherish this band. Just like my father puts on his old Stones records and takes him back, this band will do the same to me when I'm in my 60's. I won't ever forget these guys. Legends!
Right on! I saw these guys supporting Maiden in November '86 in Brussels, totally blew me away, and yes, Chris was/is a kick ass heavy rock guitar master, attitude and all...
I remember this. They had to follow 'Cameo' using the same PA. It couldn't handle their volume so the sound suffered. Jonny Rod's debut, too. Great performance despite the sound issues.
Obviously someone who knows nothing about PA's. The club this size provides the PA and it is capable of handling all types of music. If anything Rap and R&B need subs to handle the heavy bass. The reason the music sounds "raw" is because it is true live, not fixed in the studio. Chris Holmes guitar is out of tune alot. That is why it sounds off.
I miss the 80's heavy metal era. Loved going to concerts in London. Didn't make this one though. Saw them at the Hammersmith Odeon around this time. It was a great gig :)
They may not have invented Metal but my god they rode it like a whore and redefined it the way only W.A.S.P could, I would so love to see them as that line up again, I wont hold my breath though..
kick ass concert with the metal legends wasp. live 10th october 1986. great setlist to.oh yeah wasp are the shit live. \m/ blackie you wonderful rebel metal legend.
@@rogeriomacedo8380 I (Ade -Lin's other half, hijacking her account 😀) was at the Birmingham Odeon gig. Utterly awesome!!!!! Nearly threw myself over the seat into the row in front when Blackie came on stage! Thankfully they played the full circus soundtrack opening from the album, something missing from most video clips of that era. Widow Maker was one of the highlights but in all honesty it was the best I have ever seen them (Headless and KFD did come close thought). Sadly these days they have lost the magic - needs Chris back but that will never happen...
Saw WASP twice on the KILLF*CKDIE tour and never in all my gig-going have I seen such awesome stage presence, energy and enthusiasm for what they were doing....Many other bands pale in comparison...WASP may not be my favorite band....BUT THEY ARE MY FAVORITE LIVE BAND! ROCK ON Blackie and co. \m/
I remember watching this on TV at the time, had waited all week to see it. The VHS quality distorts it a wee bit, sound was better. Performance made for plenty of chat later that Friday.
Dudes, in case you are wondering, this clip is from a BBC2 music all-nighter aired in 1986, called 'Rock Around The Clock'. It was basically an extended version of their long-running hourly show, 'The Old Grey Whistle Test'. A year previously, WASP were up against Little Richard and Boy George in the weekly video vote. The smug anti-metal c*nts who ran the show were shaken somewhat by WASP winning that vote, and due to a strong UK fanbase, they were invited to take part on the night.
Oh the times when no audio backup tracks were used and shit got real, even if out of tune. Rod was amazing backup vocalist. And Blackie was the best unique vocalist of the era.
I was there and it was my mate who got the comment from Blackie 'there goes another satisfied customer' after diving off the stage, as I remember he didn't stop going on about it!
Yw! It is one of my most proudest & watched vids I've uploaded. I still have a bunch of bootlegs of W.A.S.P. but are buried somewhere in storage. One of these D.A.Z.E. I will get around to uploading em'... \m/ \m/
@@metaldave1 Ohh man, I would love!, to see what else ya got. You dont have anything of the Headless Children concert 89 at the Hammersmith Apollo?, i was there and would love to see some footage. Thanks again, this has made my day.
