Grimcoven Prototype Playthrough 

While watching this video I felt a great disturbance. As if millions of wallets suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. While it looks awesome so far, I'm afraid of what the all in pledge will look like. My brain went, "oh, that will definitely be a stretch goal mini" and "ah, that surely will be an addon". We know what Awaken Realms Croudfunding looks like, and I feel like this is going to be immense. Thank you for the preview!

Thanks for showcasing the gameplay for this one, it seems to have a lot of potential. Hopefully the final version includes a quick tutorial on mastering cursive writing as like you, it's been ages since I've needed that skill :)

Nice playthrough! I like that you tried taking out the elite first. Ant Lab's playthrough tried interacting with things and killing the minions first, but also stopped after a couple rounds. I hope Awaken Realms watches everyone's playthroughs so they can clarify some of the rules in the final game. Plus, make it a tad bit easier to win. LOL. It seems like adding more action dice is really powerful, but also you need the action cards to use the dice with... That's a nice balance/synergy.

Thanks for the gameplay video. Like others have mentioned, this game looks extremely difficult. Out of the 2 playthroughs I saw thus far, neither were even close to winning. Balance adjustment would be needed whether more health, less dice throws for enemies, more ways to heal etc.

Lethe, reference to the river in Ancient Greek myths. I love the mood, I hope the company that owns the obvious inspiration for this doesn't get trigger happy. My hope is that the boss part is suitably dynamic and potentially very deadly. Since it's players versus the environment and their own greed I hope they get the balance right I can think of few people on YT who'd rival your level of detailed coverage on a prototype like this. Glad you got a chance to try it out and that you put in the effort to do a full video on it. I guess since it's randomized it's not something you can rely upon a lot but your board had healing opportunities, and I guess the witch could have given you an advantage (maybe)

Such a fun playthrough. I love love love your enthusiasm! I wonder if part of the issue with difficulty is player count. I didn’t see any adjustment for it. (Perhaps I missed it) if you were playing 4 players, wouldn’t the hunters get twice the actions before the enemies activated? This could have changed the game a lot!

Ok. I'm very, very interested in this. BUT. Either the rules are being misread or this game is waaay more difficult than I think AR anticipated. 😂 Hopefully they'll get back to us about any errors or rule adjustment soon. I enjoyed the video none the less, as always Bairnt!

LIked Nemesis and ISS Vanguard, loved Etherfields and now adore Tainted Grail (after they added more content and an RPG) but no other AR game has pulled me in. I'm not sure this will either. But when Lands of Evershade comes out...watch out! Thanks B!

I received Primal last week and played 4 times already, love it. Really streamlined, clean design. This seems to be the opposite and everything I don't like for a 'boss battler' so huge pass for me. But that's pretty much my opinion of AR games, bloated to hell. Thanks for the playthrough though! :)

I don't really know how I feel about this game - I love the art style and my wallet was ready to burn some money (I love boss battlers) but this feels a bit .. meh... quite fiddly... trying to do too much and being dice placement it can be just too random for my liking. I thought I loved AR's games - I have nemesis, ISS vanguard and tainted grail KR, but I've skipped many of there recent games and feel this might be another that pass... but another great video!

Wouldn't be an Awaken Realms game without red cubes

It seems like the game is very thinky. Due to the fact that both you and antlab got absolutely demolished. I would however say in both videos i could find things i would do differently tactics wise. For your video i think the very large focus on the elite opened you up. Instead i would prolly have controlled the minions more and used the portals to kite the elite around while managing the boss AI. But without trying the game its of course hard to say whether that would just have created other problems :D

Whatched a few playthroughs but healing seems very hard.

This looks quite good. I'm a bit concerned about the use of AI art on this, but we'll see if AR mentions anything about it during the crowdfunding. I appreciate that they've continued with the non-minis pledge being affordable. $59 for this seems great as someone who doesn't care about minis and honestly prefers standees (I don't paint and don't have the space for a whole extra box filled with minis).

I think Dawn of Madness might be easier to win! They will hopefully look at the balance as it continues to be play tested

I am a huge AR fan. This theme is pretty cool always liked it but been kinda “too popular” lately and that usually turns me off. However with LMS releasing Blood later this month, I’m actually more inclined to try one of their games out. 1) never pulled the trigger backing their stuff and have been so close on nearly every game haha 2) I like boss battlers 100% 3) Dracula > normal grim dark sci fantasy. The biggest thing that really makes me want to skip Grimcoven is the minions with only 1 health??? That seems sooo boring. Just takes a turn. Automatic hit. Crowd control and lame imo. I know it’s just one minion and there may be others but man that really does not seem cool to me. Recently playing DoM and the Terrors and straight up hard! I LOVE THAT. Will you be doing any coverage on Blood by chance? What’s your experience with LMS? Thanks!

How on earth do the hunters heal? The game seems broken if the hunters can't heal.

Wait. So how many boss cards are you supposed to do 7 dmg EACH to in order to win? Because if it's more than 0 idk how that's even possible. I read some of your responses and let me assure you that you didn't survive long enough for any lack of skill on your part to even come into play. I think being brutally murdered on turn 3 of the game, even if you have brought the boss down to a measly 100% of his health, is a design problem, not a strategy problem.

Thanks for the playthrough. But unless there was some correction, the game looks nigh impossible. I've zero interest in a game where you will die in 3 rounds. I'm not sure why that would be fun.

Another gameplay of grimcoven where Hunters werent even close to kill the boss. It meant to be boss battler but its dying simulator

Thanks for the playthrough. Really dissapointed with gameplay, the theme, the miniatures looked very well but it is clearly not polished, to the point of being absurd, not fun, not strategic, just watch your characters being annihilated in 2 turns…at least is good news for my wallet, from a probable all-in to not consider even the basic game. What a pity…

I saw Awaken Realms so I had to check it out. Then I saw I could get it for $59 and I was sold. Then I came here to find out what I’d backed. 😂
