If the wand was indeed a horcrux, perhaps the reason it never effected Dumbledore was because Grindelwald never truly wanted to hurt Dumbledore. Since Horcrux take on the personality of who created them when they were created, if Grindelwald created one while he was still in love, the part of his soul in the wand would always be in love with Dumbledore.

I like this theory, but I think there’s another interpretation Dumbledore’s statement about the book, that still works in the theory. It’s not NECESSARILY that he’s “never seen a horocrux try to come back to life”. It could be that he’s never seen a mere magic-book try to do that, and that’s how he knew it was a horocrux

I think that Grindelwald, more than anyone else, would understand the importance of a whole soul and wouldn't stoop to the level of producing a horcrux just to stay alive. Grindelwald waged a war on ideology, he lost, and he recognized that his ideals are not as accepted compare to Dumbledore's, so he agreed to pay for his crime, and Dumbledore asked to just have him imprisoned.

Personally, I in no way think Grindelwald made a horcrux. One of the points in Fantastic Beasts Crime's of Grindelwald shows Grindelwald breaking into a house and the parents being kill by his followers, they have a meeting there when hear a baby in the other room, they walk in there a find the little boy, Grindelwald knows he has to be killed, but he steps out of the room as the baby is killed by one of his followers. This is trying to separate Voldemort from Grindelwald, I don't think they would make them both have horcruxes, Grindelwald is not Voldemort and they are trying to make that point, by Grindelwald making a horcrux it would be a pointless distinction.

Dumbledore is fully aware what Dark Arts are, and has actively choosen his school doesn'tteach these things. He has also kept the books in his "private study" and he has always been very focused on these arts. So the main reason he recognized immediately what the diary was, is because he has been studying these types of things for decades. Now why he took so long with the ring, is probably because the soul attached to the diary is stronger, and more complete. It is also pretty active and vocal, making it obvious that it is a PART of Voldemort, so clearly and object holding a soul. The ring on the other hand just seems like a cursed object, and does nothing in particularly that makes clear a part of a soul is festered inside it. So by recognizing Voldemort made a horcrux out of his diary as it had a soul in it, Dumbledore deduced that the ring was a horcrux aswell (and that is also what he states), and then finds a way to break it. If Dumbledore knew how to identify horcruxes from past experiences, he would have known the ring was one, a lot sooner, and therefor known how Voldemort kept himself alive (besides the soul part stored in Harry Potter). Lastly, if Grindelwald made a horcrux out of the Elder Wand, it would also mean that he ensured the wand couldn't be used against himself, just saying.
@jimmy50908
@jimmy50908 Год назад
What do you mean Dumbledore took so long with the ring? He only got it between books 5 & 6 and destroyed it almost at once, then tried to wear it which caused his hand to wither
@kimf.wendel9113
@kimf.wendel9113 Год назад
@@jimmy50908 at one point he says he has taken quite some time with the ring trying to understand the dark magic inside it, and how remove it. So he notes that it is unfamiliar to him at first glance. He then notes that the Diary that Harry Potter destroyed made him aware what kind of magic it probably is. A book covers close to a year, so it is likely he has spend quite some time

Nah I don't think Grindelwald made a Horcrux. He isn't the kind of guy to go: "Mh yeah, maybe I'll split my soul in half and then whoever finds the missing piece and knows how to destroy it, can weaken me." What I actually think is that Grindelwald might've had a vision of Voldemorts rise and he tried to learn everything about Horcruxes to deal with Voldemort. Maybe you can create a Horcrux for someone else via the Imperius Curse. I think it is possible that he cursed someone to make a Horcrux and then experiment with said Horcrux which ended in the death of the formerly cursed person. You know, just to see what can kill or hurt a Horcrux, is there any limit of death (total atomisation etc) for the original body, how does the revival work etc. Atleast that is what I would do before I would try this piece of magic on myself.

I mean to be fair aberforth mentions Dumbledore reading a lot when he was home from Hogwarts so yah probably I'd say it's even likely that he read secrets of the darkest arts himself while a student so he definitely knows what a horcrux is especially as slughorn tells Tom that Dumbledores "particularly fierce" about the rule banning discussion about horcruxes
@richewilson6394

It can't be a horcrux because if the horcrux was used against his master I would say it wouldn't work. So Voldemort couldn't kill Grindelwald with it. Also I don't think Grindelwald risk corrupting the Elder one by making it a horcrux.
@dmitrivalyria1315
@dmitrivalyria1315 Год назад
I have a few ideas on this. A. I personally dont think Grindlewald would make a Horcrux but would know how to make one and thus share that knowledge with Dumbledore in their quest to get the Hallows since they may encounter someone who holds a Hallow and has made a Horcrux so one of them can hold this person off the other can go deal with the Horcrux. B. If he did make one yes the Elder Wand is the most likely candidate but i also feel that when Dumbledore ran from the Ministry in OoTP he went to Grindlewald to make sure the elder wand was still a Horcrux as Grindlewald could have helped prevent Voldemort from using it to its fullest potental because by that point Dumbledore knew that the Voldemort Horcruxs had powerful protections on them and since he and Harry could be the only ones to kill the other Voldemort would eventally come for the Elder wand so whats the best case to help Harry if that happens? Have someone help the Elder Wand resist control and since Dumbledore held the Elder wand it allowed Grindlewald to assist if partially in the Horcrux search then with Voldemort dead and Grindlewald also dead but with a piece of Spirit still in the Elder Wand when Harry broke the wand thus allowing the peice of Soul to rejoin the rest of it because yes Grindlewald did feel remorse but to unmake a Horcrux i feel you need to not only feel remorse but perform a ritual to extract the Horcrux to allow it to rejoin or you know destroy the Horcrux in a way as to force the piece of Spirit to leave the object. TLDR.. either No he didnt make one or yes he did but to help Dumbledore down the line.

I'm pretty sure that it is confirmed in the books that the elderwand acts like any normal wand, it is just more powerful. It is said to guarantee the wielders victory because the wand itself is powerful. Proof-ish: In the Lighting struck tower Draco dismarms Dumbledore and therefore beating him and winning the wand, just like Olivander says later will happen. If the wand guarantees victory then it wouldn't allow that to happen. We know wands can do powerfull stuff on their own accord when they are about to be beaten. As Harry's wand does it during the battle of the 7 Potters.

They can usually convince me that at their theories are plausible but not this time. I don't think Grindy wanted to conquer death. I think he wanted to be the most powerful and control the world. The Deathly Hallows was a plausible method to do so. Especially the Elder Wand. I think it was more Dumbledore who wanted power over death, at least theorically. I believe that the reasons Voldy made horcruxes are that he feared death and that he believed that allowing yourself to be defeated by death shows abominable weakness. Has a supremely powerful wizard, he would never be so weak. He assured himself of that. Anyway, I don't think Grindy would have made a horcrux. It wouldn't have helped him to gain control over both the Wizarding and muggle world. He was able to see the future and seemed to be very confident he was untouchable. Having said all that, if he did create a horcrux. I highly, highly, highly doubt he would have used the Elder Wand for it. I think he respected too much. Additionally, horcruxes would be well hidden. Not something he would carry around and have in the open. If the Carlin brothers want to convince me that he made a horcrux and that it was with the Elder Wand as the horcrux, they need more convincing reasoning.

I think it is possible that Grindlewald made a Horcrux, however, I dont think that its feasible to put a soul into a wand- a wand is constantly being shown to be sentient of some sort, and I would guess it would defend itself from a Horcrux being made of it- I would think it would be something else if he does make a Horcrux- for example, Nurmengard itself. There isnt any indications on how small or large an item has to be for a horcrux. I think it would also tie in more with him showing remorse and make his soul whole again- wouldnt it make more sense that you had to have the horcrux close to you to rebind it, especially with the line that it is so difficult to do, that it can destroy the wizard. Being literally surround by the horcrux for his imprisonment would allow for him to do this most safely, and could be attributed to his mental state when we see him in the flashback with Voldemort. I would think that Dumbledore knew there was a horcrux in someway, and knew that he couldnt kill Grindlewald as he would just come back in the end- and thats the real reason that Grindlewald lost the duel- the same way that Voldemort did- he didnt have a full soul, and was going against someone with a whole, pure soul.

I always thought that seen as the elder wands under it's first owner was stolen after he was stabbed to de ath in his sleep the ultimate power of the wand d ied then as it was not won in a dual and if you think of it's age surely someone had it and then just d ied of natural causes and therefore the power would end there. Maybe a branch from a tree fell on them and now there is some super power tree that will win an dual against anyone who dares to face it.

I have a theory; the blood pact was a horcrux. A joint horcrux that grindelwald and dumbledore share. Possibly even the first horcrux to ever be created. Love comes from the soul, so theoretically they both put part of there soul inside the locket. I need to think it over alittle more but just from watching this it feels possible at the very least.

A bit to add to the create of your theory is that Dumbledores sister dying could have been the reason it created a horcrux due to the overall grief Dumbledore experiences in thinking he may have been her murderer. In turn it would also explain why Dumbledore's brother refuses to speak of it past saying "We both know what we saw.".
@MLawrence1941

This makes so much sense! Because, just like the Horocrux, the Blood Pact is made in order to protect life, and also, maintain, not just existence, but a certain bond between two people. As the Horocrux anchors people to life, the Blood Pact anchors the two former lovers to each other. And "Also also, actually actually" (to quote the Carlins) the Blood Pact requires a "Sacrifice" just like the Horocrux, the shedding of blood. So, yes, 100%. The Blood Pact being a shared Horocrux is basically canon as far as I'm concerned 😅

The question is: When Grindelwald created his horcrux, and who has been killed to create it?
@derianvandalsen
@derianvandalsen Год назад
The requirement is damaging your soul... could the loss of a loved one be enough? Lots of people die of such loss, so arguably the soul is similarly affected. Grindelwald loved Dumbledore, and they definitely had a painful falling out...
@DHirsch

@@derianvandalsen Even if you die, your soul stays whole; Snape lose the love of his life but he still had his soul intact when Dumbledore asked him to kill him. to rip a soul apart, you need to be so evil even murder is not enough without another unspeakable deed. Also, I don't think that Grindelwald ever loved Dumbledore the same way that Dumbledore loved him.

horcrux's would only corrupt the enemy of the soul hence why when Voldemort had it he felt more empathy about the wand that he didn't notice with other wands he stole from the dead, with Dumbledore he must've felt safe with the wand because he still loves Grindelwald so he became a perfect match for the wand

What if Dumbledore didn't have an issue using the horcrux'd Elder Wand because Grindelwald loved him as much as Dumbledore loved Grindelwald? We'll never know when he performed this spell, but perhaps Grindelwald made the horcrux after that fight that killed Ariana. If it was his spell that killed her, maybe he was able to use her death to make the horcrux. I think he already had the Elder Wand at that point, and Dumbledore probably had the Elder Wand's brother as well, and the piece of his soul that he sacrificed to it was the part of him that still loved Dumbledore. Falling (truly) in love with him was likely something that took even Grindelwald by surprise and it was an inconvenient part of his Big Plan; having someone you love and care about that much becomes a liability when the wrong people know about it. It makes sense to me that he would sacrifice those feelings, because this would make it easier for him to do what he needs to do with Dumbledore as his adversary, especially hurting Dumbledore. I can't remember if Voldemort killed Grindelwald first or Dumbledore, I think Dumbledore but correct me if I am wrong. We don't know when Grindelwald began feeling remorse for what he had done, but if he had made a horcrux and the amount of remorse he felt was enough to undo it and remake his soul, thereby regaining his ability to feel love again; then perhaps he was reliving the love he felt for Dumbledore. Perhaps he welcomed death because he knew he'd be able to be with/see Dumbledore again and be together in death the way they couldn't in life. I know that sounds really soft and wishy-washy, but love is a huge theme in this series and Dumbledore says it's the most powerful magic there is. Perhaps it took Grindelwald remaking his soul to learn what Dumbledore always knew and Voldemort continually failed to understand.

Not really related but you talk about death sentences in the WW: The veil that Sirius dies in? Do you think it could have the same purpose as the death pool in MACUSA? But the death sentence has been abolished in the UK and so they don't use it and just have it in the Department of mysteries.

IDK I think that it's likely he had a horcrux, or intended to, but I'm not convinced it was the wand, nor am I convinced Rita's version of events were true. Fairly certain the half split for each horcrux means the original like the diary were much more likely to overpower the holder than later ones, and the part of his soul in harry was much more diluted than the others, if somehow harry had been first or second it would have had a much more drastic impact on his personality

I think you have it wrong. Harry WAS affected by the locket. However, I think that's more to do with that particular piece of Voldemort's soul. Note how the diary, the only other one a main character had for an extended period, DIDN'T affect people in the same way. Ginny was mind controlled. Harry showed no effect at all, other than being able to converse with Riddle. Ron, who was most affected by the locket, is Harry's best friend. I think each Horcrux is a specific part of Voldemort's soul. The locket is probably representative of his negative emotions.

Dear SCB Editors, Could you please consider when you add B&W text (Example between 3:02 and 3:03 "more like fell OFF ruins ;)") to please put it put for longer? I have language processing delays and when it's SO short my brain can't read it before it goes away. It's so short, it takes several tries to freeze RU-vid on that frame. And I'm a native English speaker, I imagine this is harder when English isn't your first language. I like the commentary on J's commentary, keep it coming and you're doing great editing! Truly, I love these videos and look forward to them, relaxing after work.
