In this video we have issues with our corn grinder/mixer. Right away we start to diagnose the issue and take things apart. In the meantime we went to pick up my uncle's corn grinder to finish the job. All in all it was a good feeling to get the job done even with a big road block along the way. Thank you all for watching the video!

We had that same thing happen to our Gehl mixer when we changed the front bearing we changed them both. When one goes it's just a matter of time for the other one to go.

Why are you only running one dual on the tractor that is on the grinder?🤔🤔.

Good that it was repairable. My family's 54-year old NH grinder mixer's main gearbox self destructed last year. No fixing that one. It was in continuous use at grinding several loads each week since 1968!
@MorganOtt-ne1qj
@MorganOtt-ne1qj Год назад
Nothing wrong with that. Nothing lasts forever. But they can probably find a main gearbox in a salvage yard.

Have you ever changed out the hammers? If so the mill should be re balanced. We had that problem with both our Gehl mills. Even turning the knives around and not putting them in the exact spot that they came out of will throw the balance off. If the balance is off, it will shorten the life of the bearings.

There is always something that can go wrong!. Great that your uncle is nearby, so you can borrow equipment in an emergency. Does your uncle milk cows as well? Enjoy your weekend folk and all the best from a very chilly Scotland 😀.

At least Gehl equipment is easier to work on. That 100 has probably been mostly trouble free for long time, and you can throw a few parts in every few years and still have one of the best grinders made. 👍

Something we learned in changing 100's of bearing in industry. When a bearing as most are held in place by a set screw. It helps to remove the set screw and use a punch to smooth the mark made by the set screw. The bearing slides on the shaft much easier.

Great content! I love seeing fathers and their sons working together. I worked with my dad on his farming and ranching operation, and he helped me back the same way. I remember working with my dad at 5 years old back in 1974 all the way up until he passed away in 2008. We were best friends and we worked good together. I learned most of what I know about cattle and farming and being a mechanic from him. I loved him dearly! Treasure what you have there with your father and brothers, because it’s a wonderful blessing! God bless all of you and your families! Luke

Might pay to have two mixers. Mine are really old. I got a second one here last spring. I want to get it in the shop right after I'm done with corn and get it in shape. I can hold two batches in my bin and have the mixers full. That will last a couple of months so I don't have to worry as much in bad winter weather.

Couple of Q?s.... 1. Do you grind the whole cob AND the kernels into your feed mix? 2. Why does your 1066 have dual rear tires on right but a single rear tire on the left? Is that for better traction when plowing a field?
@MorganOtt-ne1qj
@MorganOtt-ne1qj Год назад
I can help with the first question: grinding the whole ear providers fiber in the ration, and the kernals provide energy. Some people chop "earlage", which is using a combine "snapper" head on a chopper to do the same thing in a ration. Great question, but IDK anything about why they run the R dual and L single

I had a Gehl 100 like that back in the 80's. Had the bearing in the flywheel go out on mine. Other then that it was a good machine. How easy are parts to find since Gehl dropped their farm equipment line?

The joy of having any piece of equipment is that when it breaks you have to fix it. We never put that big of a tractor on our mixer we had to many tight places we used 656 and Super Mta in a pinch. Like the sound of your 1066 though!

Things seem to pick inopportune time(s) to cause problems. At least no one was injured and the grinder/mixer didn't suffer major damage. Glad you were able to get your uncle's machine and get the feed grinding finished. Always seems like for us Saturday afternoon is a prime time for breakdowns when the dealers are already closed until Monday. At least you can get things apart and take inventory of needed parts. Glad I'm not the only one that uses the "smokewrench" on occasion LOL

It does seem to happen that when it is hot and there is a holiday, something will break down. Never had any experience with your type of equipment, but am very glad you were able to borrow a grinder/mixer. Totally different story, but when we were on vacation up in the Smoky Mountains, the timing belt slipped on our car. The park ranger knew something about it and was able to get it to run kinda. We limped into a town and had to wait a weekend before we could take it in to get it fixed. Hope all went well on the fix. Nice to see the ducks, I was wondering how they were doing on that pond.

A frozen raccoon will take out the bottom auger on a Gehl 95, so now whenever its parked a bucket gets put in the dust collector hole.
@jamesbristow5740

Those are pretty neat feed mills. I worked for a chicken farm for a time that had their own feed mill with an automated stationary hammer mill in a building and grain bins with augers surrounding it to load our in house feed truck that delivered to our own and our contract farms, so for the opportunity to drive and use tractors to accomplish what that boring automatic machine did seems way more fun.

175 is newer, tank capacity is bigger. Main drive to the mixer auger is different, but basically the same mill. Screens are the same size and interchange, same hammers as well.
