Corn harvest is here! This was filmed on October 20th. We are using the New Idea corn picker mounted on the 686 International to harvest today. We are pulling loads with the John Deere 7510 and the 1650 Oliver. Last but not least the Super M-TA is running the conveyor. Thank you all for watching! Happy Harvest!

One of the first times my Dad let me drive a tractor alone was letting me drive our new IH 300 with a new IH 2ME mounted corn picker.All I did was drive though a gate,but I was on cloud 9!! I think I was 8or 9.I never road with Dad in the field on that picker..He told me it was way way to dangerous. I will never forget that day.I got off that tractor and said to myself I was going to be a Farmer no matter what.We farmed together for many years.I have a son and daughter that both my Dad and I taught to drive a tractor. No they do not farm.They still use what they learned on the farm on the jobs they have now!! Thanks 🥲.

Awesome story, my grandpa first taught me to drive a tractor around 8-9 years old too, he got an old John Deere started up and running, put it in gear, it started moving and he hopped off the back while I was sitting there speechless and terrified! He said “drive it around a while you’ll be fine” I’ll never forget that, also I loved riding with him on his old Farmalls and when he was done working he always let me push the kill switch. He was the one who got me into antique tractors and i always think of him when looking at/working on one

By the size of those ears I'd say you'll have a excellent yield per acre. As usual another great video. Stay safe and enjoy your harvest.

Another good video by Gierok Farms. My dad had a New Idea one row that he pulled with his narrow front 44 Massey Harris. I remember in particular my uncle using it after dad started shelling with his new Oliver 525 self propelled 3 row. My brother and I would ride the wagon in the back and pull any husks off we would see on the ears of corn. Fun ride as a kid. My uncle fed out cattle for freezer beef. Dad left a few acres for him to pick, he opened the field up with the Oliver. Great memories. Thank you and God Bless. Keep em' coming!

@jvin248

@@hankelrod7315 What is a 'wide' row? Our New Idea two-row was set at 38in back in the 1970s. I planted 30in this last summer with 6.2 inch pitch (32,000 population?) and my Reid's Yellow Dent was up and down on ear size telling me more about the soil while (shorter stalk) popcorn was perfectly uniform. Next spring I'm shifting the Reid's to 9in, the next setting on the planter. Some of the Reids reached 14ft tall.

I like your video’s. I am a son of a feed miller. My dad ran a feed mill in Independence that was next to the bridge in the 50’s and 60’s. I met a lot of good farmers while helping out my dad. I miss those days. After work I would have a beer at Polly’s. Keep making these great video’s and good luck on the farm. I also like your old M tractor, I had many hour on one up by squarebluff. So I know what farming on the hills is.

I pick with the same picker. Around fifty acres a year. We have it mounted on an M .I would love to have it on a larger tractor, but we've been mounting it on the same M since the early 70s and it's just what we use . The camera angles are really great. I've got some videos of us picking up loaded on RU-vid, but it doesn't compare to yours. Keep up the great videos.

Here in our Western Pennsylvania farm, we pick and shell both we shall with an old leaner f2 for a wide head and we picked with the 324 new idea wide row pool type 2 row I picked with a 2017 Case IH 75c, or if it gets cold my cx95 McCormick with the cab but I kind of prefer the open tractor watching you going in that t-shirt nice bright sunny day like that that's about what we've had until lately and we had that tropical rain yesterday and now it's about 40 outside and snowing at 11:00 at night on Saturday evening so I don't know what we're going to have next week but we've got to wait till it dries up before we can get on now we've had about three inches of rain stay safe out there enjoy your videos

I remember the days before we got a picker and we dryed the corn in corn shocks throughout the field. We harvested the ears still on the stalks with a corn binder. I think that was a Cyrus McCormick invention similar to one's used for wheat. Then my dad walked through the field and propped the corn bundles together in teepee shaped "shocks". There would be maybe 30 or so on a field of just a few acres. We kids loved to play hide and seek in the shocks and would sometimes have secret pow wows, smoke corn silk or even play doctor inside the shocks. When the corn was sufficiently dry to put in the crib there was the corn shredder that stripped off and husked the ears. The machine looked very similar to an old threshing machine.
@douglasmacarthur8775

I did that up until the late 1960's. Rosenthal was the name of the neighbor's corn shredder.

Had a JD 2 row to start - a 237 ? on a 3020 . The IH was better to change over to sweet corn , knives and better stripper plates . Happy days ..
