I agree 100 percent! I used my new G9 for the first time this past weekend. It is by far the smoothest dual action polisher I have ever used and so light compared to my older ones. This machine is a winner in my book.
@@Fee.1 Dual-Action (or, DA) is when the tool orbits itself off-center, like planets orbiting a star. A Single-Action is also known as a rotary. It spins strictly off of a center point. The major difference is that a rotary tool cuts fast, but it also generates a lot of heat. A rotary tool takes off a lot of paint or clear coat very quickly, but because of how much heat it generates, it is very easy to burn paint. You would want a rotary if you worked in a paint/body shop, to quickly knock down the high spots of clear coat (also known as orange-peel), before polishing it to a shine. A DA is a much safer, and easier to use tool, especially for a beginner. It also allows for a much finer polish than a rotary tool would allow. If you have ever seen a used car on a lot, or a car that has just come back from a cheap detail, you can actually see the work of a rotary tool, that hasn't been polished with a DA afterward. You will see a sort of circular hologram effect in the paint. Usually it is quite obvious in direct sunlight. You'll be able to see each pass of the pad, much like looking at metal welding lines. Rotary tools are not for beginners, and outside of a paint/body shop in today's era, mostly unnecessary. Start with a quality DA. If you go pro, look into a DA (like the BOSS G15 or G21) for a longer throw. This just increases the length of orbit that the DA has, and will help you cut down on time a bit. Hope that helps!
@@mattmiller1585 i agree with a lot of what you say here.... but if an experienced user has a rotary with all the right pads and polishes vs someone using a DA i really doubt anyone would be able to see the difference...but yes the da is much more user friendly...
Even as a guy with experience with polishers (not a pro detailer by any stretch but I've learned a lot over time), I'd love having this on my shelf as an option with other polishers. The ergonomics, lighter weight, reduced noise, and price point are all big pluses for me as a "hobbyist level" guy who takes care of his own vehicles. Great review, probably gonna kick me off the fence to go buy one.
I just bought the G9 today because I've been using the massive Makita machine as I had no clue what I was doing. The damn thing was hard to control! So, I've been watching videos noting how the smaller head machines are far more controllable. Decided to get the G9, and what a game changer! I can do my rv by myself now, without getting frustrated and paying someone hundreds of dollars to do it because my old buffer was killing me. ! It's so much more fun to clean the rv, compared to what I was using. I love the G9
This is a fantastic machine especially for the beginner! The price is amazing and it’s the smoothest machine I have ever used. I love my BOSS machine but this one I will be using right alongside of it in places where I don’t need the long throw.
glad you like the machine as well and did a proper test of it unlike others who i wont mention lol. yeah if this build quality gets trickled into more machines this is great progress for us users but i still think there is more room for size, noise and cordless units for the marketplace
What I admire about auto fanatic blue collar guy who knows what he is talking about does not care about price or the name of a tool only cares about the quality the warranty and the real world application love this channel.
I need another one. I have the Adams Polishes 21 mm and its never let me down yet. I clean it every 2 cars. I've been eyeballing this new one up by Griots. I adore their products. Best products that hang with the "best" as well half the cost too
I just bought one. Delivering today. Can’t wait to start using it. I’ve been using a low end Turtle Wax polisher for a few years and wanted to step up my game. Thanks for the demo. Subscribed.
Another great informative product review. Also would like to mention (IMO) this is your best music intro style to date. It makes me feel happy I wouldn’t be upset if u use it every time from now on. Take care.
A very high quality tool. A lot of r&d went into this design. Comfortable, ergonomic feel with minimal vibration and noise. Would have liked variable speed button and half speeds but certainly not a deal breaker. A lot of machine for $149. (If using a 5 in backing plate, the 10555 plate was designed and balanced for this buffer. You can use the older 10550, but may experience a little more vibration).
I don’t comment often but I watch your videos all the time. Thank you for the great content. I’ll head over to Amazon and leave some reviews. I use your wheel cleaner and gloss enhancer regularly, and just used your video and Secret Weapon to ceramic coat my wheels.
I got to test the G9 at Caffeine and Gasoline held at their distribution center in Indiana and I fell in love as soon as I picked it up. They did a fantastic job designing this machine like you said and I can’t wait to pick one up. My car doesn’t need a correction at the moment but damn do I wish it did so I had an excuse to pick it up now 😂 Great overview of the product! Also off topic but my order for my second bottle of professional wheel cleaner and snow storm shipped out today and I’m really excited to try snow storm. The cleaning power alone made me pick it up and I’m sure I won’t be disappointed
I have found many other uses for a DA polisher other than cars: fiberglass shower enclosures, glass top stoves and furniture restoration just to name a few. Remove the the backing plate and attach a brush and you can clean carpet.
Awesome video! Just watched your review of the G8, as well👍 After getting a quote to have my 2016 Focus ST (Race Red) completely detailed, I decided it was time to get more serious about my car care. I did some research, and ordered the G9 last week. A kit, actually with some pads and Griot's Complete Compound, Polish, and the Polywax along with several extra pads. This morning, I ordered the G8 BOSS Kit! I am really looking forward to getting everything in, and beginning! I also have a 2007 Nissan Frontier (Cimmaron Red) that's going to require a lot more attention! Lol! Thanks for your video's! Also; I'm a big fan of the Shelby cars! Love the GT350R! 🍻
FYI Griots does offer a rebate if you trade in your G6. I purchased the G9 w/ 2 orange pads and a 16oz bottle of correcting cream. They sent me a shipping label and got a $87 credit. Which brought the total to about $120.00. I would have bought pads and correcting cream anyway and eventually would have spent more than $87 on products. So if you're looking to upgrade and have a G6 give them a call. I heard about it on another forum and wasn't sure if it was true, but it is. Phil thanks for the review, made me decide to upgrade from the G6 to G9.
After doing considerable research I ordered a G9 a couple of days ago and should be here next week. I may purchase the 25-foot cord later, we'll see. All things considered (build quality, ergonomics, etc.) this looks like an excellent value!
You just ordered it and it wasn't there yet when you wrote this, so how the hell are you commenting about the build quality before you have it in your hand?
I had to buy this after getting a milwaukee m18 rotary polisher since that things is not for beginners hopefully this da serves me well since it ships soon.
Was thinking of getting that $79 Harbor Freight polisher, since I have never put a DA polisher onto a car ever. Was smoothness the only difference? This one is twice the price with the 20% of HF coupon.
Owning a detail shop I do my homework both on products and tools. I just received the G9 and was impressed with it. My favorite feature is the cooling fan that helps keep the backing plate and pad cooler. I tried to get a pad to heat up but it stayed cool. Worth buying
I have been testing the G8 past week and also love it, they really got two great new tools for detailing and I can not wait for them to revise the BOSS G series polishers since I do use those very often and enjoy them.
Excited to try this. This polisher looks awesome! It will be my first attempt at polishing and waxing with an orbital polisher. Used to wax my cars by hand, but then I got old. So this will be my retirement gift to myself. Yeah baby!
As a detailer for 13 years I can appreciate griots offering something for ppl to maintain their paints a lot better I’m a Flex and Rupes nut so I probably won’t purchase one myself but I recommend them to people who ask how can they learn to polish paint safe and effectively.
😂a long time ain’t the word...it was a hard pill to swallow when my correction options when I wasn’t willing to buy a rotary were PC or 450 for a 3401....Now for a few bucks more than a pc you can have a machine much much more capable, comfortable and efficient at doing a full correction without the risks or skill needed to safely operate other higher powered correction tools.. For what they have here for the price, package and warranty fuck me that’s going to be a hard tool to beat. And even now with slight refinement for use in a professional environment this has the potential to be marketed as a Pro Tool.
Not going to trade in my G15 for the G9 and I prefer the 5" vs the larger 6". If I did not own the G15, I would definitely pick this up for the smaller form factor but would move to the 5". The BigFoot is also a pretty nice DA polisher but its nice to have choices.
Im glad you made the vid on this! I was on the fence but now Im definitely going to be getting this. One question, I watched the reviews from other people and a lot of them were saying that there is too much vibration. Did you notice this?
they obviously are using the wrong pads or polishes or just bashing it because thats what they like to do on their channels, my content is not that type and if this tool was not good i would have never done a video on it. I have hand and wrist injuries and if this tool vibrated bad like ever other 15 or 21 machine i tested i would not be able to use it or control it as easy in this video. also in this video i am using the tool at MAX RPM. Buy it i think you will really enjoy this machine.
@@TheZigzone yes but you can not demonstrate a polisher with a hood or fender on a wobbly mobile stand and talk about vibration its just stupid to even consider doing that. you need to always demonstrate on an actual car where the body panels have no chance to move and resonate.
@@autofanaticcars sure no problem I'm working on a 2007 Mercedes black AMG klieman with a lot of Curves and Contours I hope I get less pads stall than the gg6
check out and order some Optipads of Amazon, they work awesome on the G9. The older Griots polishers are so antiquated compared to these new ones its amazing and you will see once you hold it in your hands and feel the quality. Have fun.
i cant decide between the G9 kit or Adam swirl killer kit for my first da.. should i buy a kit or just the da ? and buy my own pads/compounds/polish...
Thanks for the videos . I returned mine because the 5 in. Backing plate that I purchased for the g9 made it vibrate more than the 6 in backing plate that it came with . I have more 5 in pads than 6 . Maybe I got a defective one .
Oooh bummer, I'm a 5" guy myself, I might hold off on buying one.. can anyone else confirm if they get excessive vibration with a 5" plate? I can't imagine it needing a weight swap for such a small diameter change. What 5" backing plate did you use? Did you contact Griots about the issue?
Lomas Ticas The difference with the G9 vs. the previous model with 5” pad use is you have to buy their counter-weight kit. It’s extra and a must or you experience the vibration issues. With it you have no issues. The old version simply allowed you to swap a 6” pad to the 5” one. This one doesn’t without that added counter-weight. I bought the old model not knowing this was out. I utilized Griot’s “Buy Back” program and upgraded to the G9. Ordered the 5” back plate and they told me I needed their counter-weight kit. So l I just got it with some extras accessories.
I have never polished a car in my life. Started to get into detailing and I want to compound and polish my bmw in the spring. How much of an advantage would a 15mm machine have? There doesn't seem to be a lot of around 200 dollar options, and everyone either loves them or absolutely hates them. Basically my question is how does this compare to the shinemaster m15 pro v2
the M15 is heavier and has a larger orbit which is better for more severe defects but build, value and support the G9 is the best entry level machine you can buy. I have over 15 professional machines and i even use the G9 on a few projects recently because I really like it
I have hand and wrist injuries from surgery and if a machine vibrates to much i would not be able to even use it which is why I am very particular to what tools I can use today in my shop. This tool is ultra smooth, controllable and quiet as shown in this video.
nope i bought the item at full retail and i do not charge for any review you see on this channel thats what makes my videos different from the big channels
Would the G9 be a good choice for working on a fiberglass boat. Also would the G8 be good for small spots on a boat. Is the 9 mm throw ok for either cleaner wax or wax applications. Thanks for you video
both great machines but on a gelcoat there just going to take much longer to cut even if you use a wool or microfiber pad, on boats a rotary polisher works best and fastest as does a forced rotation dual action like the Flex 3401 that is what I use on gelcoats
Thanks for getting back on the polishers for boats. I have Makita PO5000c forced rotation and a Makita rotary. Just wanted something lighter for waxing and small locations. Will try the G9@@autofanaticcars
I've been looking for a polisher that'll get around a whole car which obviously includes pillars as well as smaller areas. So my question is, can this polisher be fitted with a 3 or 4 inch pad/ backing plate?
I don't think so. Which is the biggest drawback of the polisher. Especially if you're just buying your first machine. It won't take long to realize you need smaller pads for smaller tighter areas. The G9 forces the purchase of another polisher to do that. In my opinion you're better off getting a $79 Maxshine or similar machine that can accept a 3" backing plate. (Like the older Griot's 8mm polisher which I own. That's a much more versatile machine and does the job just as well. It's just not sexy looking) After some experience with that machine you may want to buy a longer throw unit. (Which I do) If you did that you now have two machines that give good cut (the long throw polisher) and versatility (3" backing plate polisher). The G9 gives you neither. It's a beautiful, well made, ergonomic polisher. But without 3" compatibility it doesn't make sense for me. That's why I'm not upgrading to this newer G9.
Hello, i retired from boat detail business a few years ago after many years of wet sanding and buffing out boats.... I am 61 now and would like to start an Auto paint correction business... I want to keep it simple and work by myself maybe 20-25 hours per week having customers bring there cars to me at my home... do you have videos on starting a part time business such as this? i also have a lot body work and painting experience , dent repair, scratch removal etc..PS I have plenty of rotary buffers and only 0ne port cable DA 4.5 amp ...would you say this machine here is best choice??? i want a powerful machine that is smooth ,less vibration since us old guys hands and wrists are not as durable as they used to be... but like you i love have the right tools and supplies and system that achieves the best results... thanks for your time..
Hi i do not have videos on starting up business however I can help you out if you contact me directly. the G9 is a great machine to get started but its not powerful enough for some touch clearcoats used by many OEM today that take a tough time to cut and buff. I personally love the G8 o use it often and love my old G15 and G21 those machines we use often with our Flex and Rupes tools. As you know not one machine can tackle the tasks of 3 or 4 because every job will be a different challenge
Static Alpha 4 1/2 a is good speed move slow is better for cutting, if you do 6 speed the backing plate will heat up and burn the pad and always spray water to mist the pad you’ll get more cut, and always use meguiars microfiber cutting pads
What's the absolute base entry level polisher you'd say is ok? Whats the top dog? Also if you're willing to have a chat and send them to me we can. I'd love to have a look at the insides and analyze who they're sourcing hardware from. TTI or Metabo ....maybe Makita
two very different machines the G9 is far superior build and feel when using but has less correction than the 15 if that helps it all depends on your needs
Would you still recommend someone new learn how to use a rotary polisher first? Or are orbitals good enough now that it's best just to go with one of them like this G9?
they are very different machines the M15 has more orbit for more correction but this G9 has more cooler design and features and much cheaper price for entry. Griots has now revised their G15 and G21 to resemble the G9
Auto Fanatic yeah man I want the polisher but if you search around a lot of ppl are having this issue however I’m glad you’re not. I’m gonna contact Griots and inquire if they have a V2 I seen something like that.
Do you have or can you suggest a video that explains the differences between a grinder and a polisher and a sander as far as the hardware and if they can be adapted or not and why they should or shouldn't etc. As it's clear they're identical foundations to a certain level at least. On a budget can you use one with adapters if they exist etc.
So I was thinking getting g15 it is gonna be my first polisher I just want one i got the kotch fine cut and micro i am gonna go over the car with that lightly its nissan paint soft what do you think
I hear a lot of people say it but what makes Griots a entry level machine? Can it just not hold up to long continuous use? The ten and twelve hour days like you were saying?
if you were to run this machine for that long it will overheat, it does get hot if you run it for many hours but then again almost every pro level machine does as well. best bet us to just take breaks and keep the equipment cool to prolong lifespan
@@autofanaticcars ok Thank you. I always heard the new Griots was a lot better then the older models so I wasn't sure if it was any better and still considered entry level or not.
Ah, been waiting for that announcement. I have purchased snowstorm and secret weapon. I was going to get the gloss enhancer but noticed it was only the refill. Will the bottle with the spray nozzle be available?
not sure its complicated to ship with sprayers you need to bag and do certain things of their warehouse rejects, too hard to do in production for us now.
@@autofanaticcars I know you said you hated it but I just started exploring detailing and I've been using the PC. It got the job done but it definitely is slightly heavy, vibrations are there, and can be loud. Been thinking of upgrading to the M15 Pro.
try this machine first, i think youll enjoy using it more and learn your upper body motions quicker the M15 can walk a bit on you and get out of control if your not used to the weight and power,.
HELLO genius I am writing to you from Argentina, I have cable porter, which is better in terms of cut and finish when polishing a car? the porter has 2500 to 6800 opm and this g9 2000 to 6400 opm spins fewer laps per minute. but the porter cable has 430w against the 1000w of the g9, I await your advice and your excellent knowledge, greetings big hug, claudio
@@autofanaticcars Thank you for your prompt response, here in Argentina many detailing workshops, automotive aesthetics use rupes, dewaltt, makita, flex and porter cable even more, to give an example, there are always 4 porter cable machines for each workshop you visit, like that is The machine that can not be missing because it never breaks and is the workhorse, here in Argentina the prices are very expensive, the opposite of the US, the porter cable costs 100 dollars and 150 dollars the G9, here in Argentina they are sold to more than double, it has a value of 350 dollars the g9 and 300 dollars the porter cable, not to mention the rupes 15 mark 3, here they leave 850 dollars, hopefully Griots manufacture the machines at 220v (those that arrive by importers or people who travel to the Outside they are 110v like the porter cable and we use transformers from 110v to 220v, which increases the price and is also uncomfortable) hopefully there a representative of GRIOTS in Argentina since they are excellent, I would like to have the g8 that your opinion has com stop with the 12mm orbit mini rupes, greetings claudio from Giscardetailing.
