I remember this guitar. It actually sounded very good, was very responsive with a pleasant tone. It was amazingly light. I didn't really get a chance to play it, as I was afraid to touch the back of it with my sweater for fear of getting sweat on it. So I held it suspended and hoped for the best.

+Grisha Goryachev Maybe Santi San was talking about your RU-vid account. I know on Facebook and twitter when you are an artist or personality in general there's a way to prove the company (facebook for instance) that you are who you say you are and hence get a blue tick certifying this is your official account. Since he said you're amazing, the account verification thing should be a flattering remark. I doubt though there's going to be fake Grishas as there are Justin Biebers but it's always worth considering.

It was made to be played, worry about getting sweat on it, may as well put it in a vacuum pack in a box, in a museum

I bet Antonio Torres would be absolutely thrilled and delighted that people are still playing his instruments 120 years later. . .let alone distinguished players in front of a worldwide (internet) audience.

Strange he says that, Grisha is actually is a very competent classical guitar player. He has studied classical guitar. He just doesn't usually have the right nails for it as nail shape is different for flamenco guitar. That's probably what he actually means.

Grisha, Don't sell yourself too short. Your flamenco style, to me, is a cross between classical and modern flamenco. That's at least what I thought of Sabicas and you seem to have a similar style. Recall that in the old days, prior to the early 1900s, spanish guitars were just that, one guitar. Classical and Flamenco guitarist played in those days the same guitar. This guitar sounds just as good as any other flamenco guitar in your hands.

@physadeia This is a Spruce top. The back and sides are most likely Cypress since I know Torres only used Brazilian Rosewood and Cypress. And of course this isnt Rosewood. In the early days they used only spruce for the top and cypress or indian or brazillian orsewood for the back and sides. Cedar tops only appeared in the 1960s when Ramírez introduced them.

@DoubleMannings Depends on the guitar. Typical cheap guitars just stay that way. A fine guitar by a master guitarrero, we would hope so and generally do. The more they are played, the better they will mature. Something about keeping the adhesives and the wood moving and therefore more pliable and responsive. But, there are exceptions, and we won't know till after maybe 5 - 10 years of playing the instrument.

I LOVE his senior recital. Have bought his albums but they're not as good IMO. Yes, his left hand in particular is incredible, nearly robotic. With experience, he should "mature" like any good wine. But for now I can be spellbound by his incredible technique and timing. His classical training will always be there. Guess that's the difference, like Sagovia.

Probably or close to that. And realize that his later guitars were not as good as his earlier ones. He was just trying to make money, and there wasn’t as good wood in Almeria as in Sevilla where he produced his best guitars.

Not all spruce guitars sound the Mililaniguy, how long have you been playing? 1 or 2 months? If you had been playing a long time you'd know that guitars sound different even ones made from the same materials. I've never had a spruce guitar, fine one for that matter that sounded "scratchy"

how do you tune with those things, I have only held a guitar like that once, took the peg out, turned it as it floated by the tension of the string and tried my best to bring it to the pitch I wanted, put it back in and the pitch was not the one I heard before re inserting it.

@rambledogs2012
@rambledogs2012 10 лет назад
Yes they are, the fast picado definitely. I believe Grisha plays both classical and Flamenco but steered towards Flamenco more. As such, it can be played on a classical. There are some subtle differences between the two types of guitars, wood used (spruce, cedar, rosewood), top, back and sides are thinner on a Flamenco and depth is thinner too. Also a lower action on the bridge and saddle. Originally they had tuning pegs rather than machine heads. As the guy mentions, its an 1890 guitar so probably not much difference in the two types.
