Its so helpful listening to someone who speaks from a prepare how your family eats philosophy....very good advice - when I first started prepping about 5 years ago I made the mistake of getting things we don't really like but with the thought that if we get hungry enough we will eat them... that may be true but we sure won't be thriving, just surviving. So now, my journey has been trying to be more practical with my pantry and preps... by the way, you look so adorable with those pig tails.

You are doing an amazing job prepping for your family. Not just for next year (and the next), but also for next week! I know it hurts to have to get rid of the food you have worked so hard to get and stay within your budget. Most of those prices will never be seen again. I know your friend, as well as the food pantry, will appreciate them. Be sure to get a receipt from the food pantry for your taxes.

I have the same shelving as you for my panrty room. I have 7 now & room for 3 more which I ordered. It will motivate me to clean out the crap I do not use in that space LOL. But man.. I used to spend an extra 50 or so a week prior to Jan 2021 for stocking up. It's getting hard.because $50 does not go far anymore. I'm grateful I had a head start as you did . But for newbies to this, a few cans a week is all you need to start. You can do it!!!

Its so easy to make your own vanilla. A pint of vodka to 3 vanilla beans let sit for at minimum 3 months. The longer the better obviously. Deer or rabbits will make a salad from your garden. I was always trying to convince them to grow their stuff. Naw my garden was better i guess ❤ 😊😅. I lived in Oregon at the time and Blacktail deee can jump 8ft fencing. I think whitetail its 6ft. So an 8ft fence will keep the deer out. Placing 4x8sheets of plywood with 2ft of it buried will help keep rabbits and other critters out. It will not stop the little critters completely though. Sam's club will ship the 25lb bags of flour and sugar straight to your home. They will ship pretty much anything that's not perishable. It's how I do it because I dislike going in.

Tamara What a task to go through your mini grocery store. Looks so nice. I am sure your family would take the food with the dye. Once your garden comes in you will have even more for your family. I will be heading to the grocery store on Monday. It has been 5 weeks and I know the bill will be huge. Been cooking from my pantry to save money.

You should upgrade your Sam’s membership. Since we upgraded which includes free shipping; we can order different things in small orders. Like recently we ordered the laundry detergent. Today and yesterday Sam’s delivery our individual chips. So when we go to Sam’s it’s mainly perishable items that don’t ship. It’s so worth it!

I have loved watching you grow on your journey. I'm glad you are enjoying canning like I do. I know what you are saying about how it costs more to stock up. I spent more this weekend than I have in a while, but I planned on it. I intended on stocking up this weekend. As you said, certain times of the year things go on sale more. I was able to get BBQ sauce on sale this week and also my Kroger had 2lb packages of strawberries on sale for $2.49 and with the digital we could get 5 and I did. I will use some in smoothies, make some strawberry preserves and strawberry shortcake tonight. I'm making homemade biscuit mix instead of the store bought with all the junk in it. You are doing great!!

I cooked an eye of round roast in my crockpot and it was amazing. I seasoned the roast with steak seasoning,sliced an onion over roast,added 1 can ea cream of potato and cream of celery,Au jus mix- 1 pkg and mushroom gravy mix- 1 pkg. I cooked on low for 8 hrs. The roast was a steal when I bought it. I also sprinkled Badia complete over everything Served with mashed potato’s,garlic knots and peas and carrots!

It is getting worse. I watch all the adds, have been stocking up on everything thing we use daily. I plan my meals out of my stock. I don’t can, but my pantry & freezers are full. Sometimes, if I have to much it drives me crazy. But my last good deal was 99 cents a pound for Italian sausage & bratwurst? What would you do?

You can make your own vanilla it’s vanilla beans and 100 proof vodka split the beans and add the vodka let sit for 6 months I always have one going while using one it’s pricey to get started but cheaper on the long run

Have you thought about making your own vanilla (and other) extract? It will be an upfront expense, but then you will be set for years. You'll just need vanilla beans and vodka. If you find some bottles at the thrift shop, you can even use it as a gift with other homemade treats.

Tamara, I bought a BUNCH of pasta last summer as a stock up and opened a box the other day and it was FULL of bugs. Weavels or something😵‍💫!! Do you recommend putting them in jars and vacuum sealing or bags from now on?
