Grog is a type of character which usually annoys the living daylights out of me. Stupid people funny har har. Big strong man is an idiot yada yada. It's _usually_ a very cheap form of humor and gets very old very quickly. Somehow, though, the way Travis plays Grog (and the others respond/the show is written, speaking of LOVM specifically) makes it work, at least 90% of the time (for me personally). There is SO much heart, and the jokes are never truly mean-spirited. And if someone IS actually mean to Grog, if anything bad happens to him, we are clearly meant to immediately sympathize - and we do. It doesn't feel like laughing at a disability; it feels like laughing at somebody who has a very different worldview and often misinterprets things (which is inherently funny! speaking as someone with autism) and is also clearly an admirable, lovable, flawed person. He's an archetype AND a fully realized character. Honestly, it's a little bit magic.

I will never not love that of all the characters we've seen before subjected to mind control magic, Grog is the most resistant. He pushed through Silas' efforts when Vax and Cass required snapping out of it, and despite not knowing it was a possibility he was the only one to even temporarily fight Anders' control.
