Not gonna lie, I laugh every time at the "No one cares about you. I'm no different." Line, even though I know its just as hurtful as anything else. The delivery is perfect Scanlan, hilarious yet supremely stinging.

"No one cares about you" doesn't elaborate further* damn she really didn't care

So this is the groups traumas/fears: Vex: fear of not being loved Vax: fear of being alone Percy: fear of not being trusted Keyleth: fear of failing Pike: fear of being faithless Scanlan: fear of not being cared about.

“No one cares about you. I am no different.” Will hurt much more when he finally calls out his team. “What’s my mother’s name?”

Yeah, we know Scanlan's callous was savage... but so was Keyleth's. Think about it. The fear of failure AND the fear of success. Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't. Either way, she has to overcome that weakness.

At my original viewing of this scene, the "callout" for scanlan made be giggle, but after thinking about it and seeing other takes and the qna on the first 3 episodes, its amazing how the execution of a scene that felt like it was originally played for laughs was actually a genius way to begin some amazing scanlan characters development, and of course the party's bard would have their biggest insecurity as being dismissed or deemed not worth anyones time

"no one cares about you. i'm no different" is easily the most brutal cut out of all of these.

This is honestly the best sort of D&D move, you attack the PLAYERS, the people who come up with the backstory for the characters, if you truly care about your character this can be more impactful that an dozen dragons, attack who your characters ARE

Out of all the team of Vox Machina, I can strongly relate to Keyleth's deep fear/trauma. Fear of Success and Failure.

Dude Scanlan's was like looking both ways before crossing the street and having a sinkhole open up under you.

I love how it goes straight from this heartbreaking realization of Keyleth's deepest fear, to Scanlan being told that he's not even worth the acknowledgment. Capped off with that quiet, "Well damn.." Is both really funny, and really tragic.

Dang has to be the first time ever that the protagonists of a story seek a powerfull and holy spirit who tests them by making them face their traumas...

I once saw an alternate interpretation of Osysa's words to Scanlan: "I'm no different" may be "I also don't care about you", or it may be '"No one cares about me, so I am the same and I understand this, being in darkness, revered, but unknown". Well... such a short but varied in understanding phrase is exactly Sphinx thing to say.

Her animation is so good, certain angles she actually looks real, it's kinda frightening.

First time I saw this episode, I was hooked on this scene with Osysa. She read them so well.

I'm getting serious Witch Queen vibes from that sphinx voice.

I really like the design of Osysa. The big creatures being 3D animated just makes them look so much more larger and more intimidating.

Hmm, I'm really wondering if this is foreshadowing to season 3 because Percy doesn't get a break at all in season 2, in fact they keep piling the failure/guilt up and then some while the rest of the group seem to have faced their fears. Vax isn't tethered to his sister anymore now he has a purpose Vex doesn't care about her dad anymore Pike seems to come around (wasn't this fixed in the first season ? ) Scanlan stops running from his issues, and wants to make up for it Grog gets what makes him 'him' and comes out of it stronger than ever Percy .... tries to throw his title around and fails, does a thing in the tomb he'll probably never forgive himself for, tries to be a guide in the fey realm with mixed results to great annoyance of Vax, and gets to make a trap that fails. I'm very curious towards season 3. Edit: Got trough the whole campaign, its quite different but I understand where they are going,and can't wait to see it animated!

The gnome's punishment is what we in the business call EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!

I played a warlock once, for an eldritch deity that consumed magic. It used me a conduits to consume a sphinx that was assisting us. This video reminds me how satisfying its was.

I was half-expecting there to be that vine boom sound whenever she called out their trauma

It’s less like she’s calling out their trauma and more like identifying their weaknesses that they need to overcome in order to get stronger. Kind of like how Percy overcame their revenge. Percy needs to stop seeking forgiveness from others and forgive himself first and foremost. Vex needs to stop seeking familiar approval (and in my personal opinion be less of a hypocrite) Her brother needs to be less addicted to her and be free of the barbed shackles of love. Pike needs a Blue Lantern lesson. The tree girl basically just needs to grow a back bone *and* have a Blue Lantern lesson. And like the sphinx said, Scandland’s a moron, no one gives a d-n. (Although if you ask me that “answer” they gave in the end was half-a-sed. What good is dying to prove a point if your death was unhelpful and therefore meaningless? Not giving up on the other hand I understand, but that energy needs to be better placed)
