@@wyattandrew438 that's the point. if you have an idea and cgi can better represent it, then use cgi.. but if you can do it with real props then do it for real. Watch Christopher Nolan movies.
Pretty sure the real reason they went for a puppet instead of CGI was so cast/crew could be able to cuddle with him between takes. I mean, can you blame them? 🥰💗
One of the biggest successes with the puppet, is that most cast members have subconsciously forgotten its puppet and not a real baby. So they will do things and say things as if they are dealing with a child actor.
No chance of that unfortunately; if Andy Serkis can't be nominated for mo-cap performances, I doubt a puppet could, which is a shame. But it should definitely win an award for props (if it hasn't already)
@@TainaElisabeth when the character's only cute trait is "Big eyes" and they floss and dab or fart or something cringey that only brain dead 9 year olds would find cute.
Five puppeteers working in coordination to bring the baby to life - that is incredible teamwork! You can see it how they all went to town during the buttons-pushing scene in episode 4, and the "baby stepping out of the ship sleepy and wondering where is daddy mando" on episode 5.
The actor who acted as the stormtrooper was crazy to punch baby yoda so hard. Being excited is not a good excuse in trying to damage baby yoda physically.
I love Werner Herzog! It’s so great to see a fantasy production taking the time and care to use practical effects when possible, instead of relying solely on CGI. Reminded me a little of Farscape.
*show that pushes forward the possibilities of filming by extensively using computer-controlled virtual perspective-shifting projection backgrounds* "I'm glad they don't rely solely on CGI"
using star wars' inspiration as inspiration for mandalorian was a very wise decision. mandalorian is a wonderfully unique yet fits perfectly into the star wars universe
They should make a "soup time" baby Yoda toy. Basically you push a button somewhere and he eats his soup like in episode 4 (i think). People would buy that
@Mary id feel bad for him. It would make him anxious and I dont want the little guy to be sad. He already has all the bounty hunters in the known galaxy chasing after him.
This is one of my favorite tiktoks: Disney: “so what were you thinking about for the new mandalorian series” Jon F: “yknow I was thinking of a baby yoda” Disney: “how much you want??? 1 million? 2 million??? You know what, I’m just gonna write you a blank check, and you go, you make it-“
@@W1NT3RS69 No, I'm pretty sure the creators can change the title any time. Notice "Grogu" is never mentioned in the video, and no clips of Season 2 were shown.
The Mandalorian really exemplifies what I think is still a trend in truly great modern tv and movies--that while CGI has advanced leaps and bounds to create many of the incredible, hyper realistic effects we take for granted, the magic of film making still lies in practical effects. Even when they opt to use CGI in the final version, there is not replacement for filming with a practical model to base your lighting and movement on, and it shows.
I heard somewhere that Werner Herzog was more emphatic about the puppet than they show here. I heard, when they asked him to do a take with the empty cradle, he said "You are all cowards." I want to believe this
Some of those early drawings of Grogu 🤣🤣 glad they got to the perfect look for him. A bit of nostalgia for Gizmo from Gremlins mixed with Yoda's features
The only way they can come up with new and interesting star wars content is by taking inspiration from outside sources instead of relying on previous content and nostalgia like the sequels did. This is why the Mandalorian is doing so well
Thank you Herr Herzog! Thank you thank you thank you, so much. Supposedly he was very aggressive and assertive in his belief that Grogu needed to be a puppet the whole time. All I can do is thank you
Wow, this was excellent. I didn't know about the history of the samurai films or the lone wolf and the cub. Another layer of intrigue. Thanks. This was great.
_The Mandalorian_ was able to keep three big secrets in an age where secrets are nearly impossible to keep: 1) the fact the child was of Yoda's species, 2) the child's name and 3) the appearance of Luke Skywalker. Kudos to the Mando team! I hope they figure out more ways to keep a lid on leaks. I _hate_ spoilers. Just think if the big secret from _The Empire Strikes Back_ had been leaked? Wait a minute...I can't remember how I reacted to Darth Vader being Luke's father. I was about 13 when I saw it in theaters. You'd think I'd remember something like that. I guess I was too busy crushing on Han Solo: "Who cares if Darth Vader is Luke's father. Let's get back to Harrison Ford! He is SO hot!"
well ofcourse but its good that they went practical and cgi for baby yoda bechus makeing baby yoda HIGH detailed for all episodes would cost ALLOT bechus the amount of cgi work needed to make it look good. like digital domain spent close to 1 year on thanos cgi on avengers infinity war 1 FING YEAR and well he looks fucking real but still 1 year
I actually have an idea of what Baby Yoda could be called. The name Yoda itself is the Hebrew word for "One who knows all." My proposal then, as a play on the Baby's mysterious past, is Yodet, which means "One who knows nothing."
I bet that even if we found out it's 'real name', everyone will still call him 'Baby Yoda'. I bet when the scene comes to reveal it, all the fans will put their fingers in their ears going 'La la la, I'm not listening. It's name is 'Baby Yoda', forever and always Baby Yoda!'.
You know what? I just never liked the name "Baby Yoda" very much. I mean, it suggests that he's someone he's not. He's not Yoda as a child, and some people are probably fooled by the that nickname.
It seems like that is the best way to continue star wars. Don't imitate it, look at what influenced original star wars and work with that first. The genre of sci-fi, the spirit of westerns, the structure of samurai films, the moralities of greek myth.
oh my god so much work to make that cute yoda? its wonderful to see the coordination! keep up the good job im so excited to see the episodes of season 2
Fantastic video! I have been watching your channel non stop for days now. I appreciate your research! I love the fact that the child is based on the lone wolf and baby series.
In retrospect Star Wars has been finally perfected the way George Lucas has been trying to do for years after the creation of The Mandalorian, to which Luke Skywalker was shown in the best way imaginable that George Lucas himself cried with joy.
The only way we would really know what his real name is, is if we meet his race, and someone who knows who he is. Or if he himself knows it and he learns to speak. Which I wouldn't want. I want him to remain exactly how he is through it. Cause I just know if he does start to speak, it won't be as good as how he is now.
@Yorkie I figured it out months ago: Yoda + Yaddle = Yodle, or, as we would say it here, Yodel. Which means the first time we hear him speak.... "Yodalady-WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" is going to come out of his mouth.
When you’ve seen great puppetry whether in stage or screen it beats CGI hands down. Seen a number of shows like War Horse and to see something brought to life is pure magic.
