How To Groom a Black Russian Terrier - pet trim! We are going to base this cut on a long-legged terrier (think Kerry Blue) and a big, black bear. No kidding! Tasha is a young BRT and as sweet as they come!...but she is going to show us how form should follow function by demonstrating how matting can occur at friction points, such as where the joints meet the body. Let's see how we give Tasha a great cut that is a nod to the long-legged terriers while retaining her Black Russian roots! Thanks for joining!

Thank you for this GREAT video Gina! I have a 3 month old BRT that I will be grooming myself. I previously groomed my 2 Bouviers and find the pet cuts very similar. Nope, no beards are going to happen here! lol Do you find the Geib blades keep their sharpness longer? I am looking to purchase a new corded clipper (thinking Oster Golden A5?) and would love to know your favorite one for at home use. Your 3 part series on clippers, blades and guards was also super informative!!

You are so welcome, happy to help! And congrats on your new baby BRT!💕 If you've got experience grooming Bouviers, you will have no problems - and lol, I completely understand about the beard! It is, indeed, a bit "extra"! 😆 Ok, so to answer your questions: Yes, my Geib Buttercuts hold their edge so well that my sharpener thinks I'm cheating on him (I am not!). But I do keep them well-maintained and clean. For a corded clipper, the Oster A5 is a classic! I have seen it used by dozens of professionals, so I would say that it is tried and true, even if I don't have personal experience owning one. As far as my favorite clipper, I am truthfully searching for my Perfect Clipper as we speak. I bought a Wahl KM-2 recently, (before investing heavily in a KM-5 or -10), but some of my Geib Buttercut blades (my #5 and#7 shaving blades) do not fit on the Wahl drive assembly - which is strange as they have always fit on my Andis, my Oster Volt, and my Laube. Very disappointing. So for now, I use a combination of a few clippers, since I can still use my guard combs over a #30 on the Wahl. Sorry for not being able to give you a straight answer, but for the price point and power, the Oster A5 should work wonderfully for you. And I'll keep the channel posted once I land on the ideal clipper. Thanks so much for your kind comment and questions, and I am so happy my other videos were helpful to you! And good luck with the baby! 😍

Ha, I have a Bouvier (it's my second) - and when looking into getting the new dog I stumbled upon the BRT in my search for a breeder. I've been absolutely fascinated since - the two dogs have super different origins but they look so similar. I really want to meet a BRT to see what the differences (other than size) are like.
@GinasGrooming
@GinasGrooming 11 месяцев назад
@@danielschwarz8332 Yes, I can totally see how the two could be compared, for sure! The BRTs were created by mixing all sorts of different breeds, and what did they end up with? A Bouvier, lol! In terms of personality, I just released a little video that's more of a love story than an educational video, but I think it gives more insight into the BRT personality: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EsilGKEEqvE.html. I am definitely considering one in my future, they are amazing dogs. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 😍

So informative! Does this breed shed much? Im used to heavy shedders (golden retrievers, and my old black labs), and no shedders, like our wonderful standard poodle. Where would it rate with those breeds? Thank you!
@GinasGrooming
@GinasGrooming 10 месяцев назад
Hi Isaac, thank you so much! Well, if you're used to a Golden shedding, you'll be pretty much in that wheelhouse. We also have a Standard Poodle (and a little mix with hair, mostly), so it has been a long time since I have had to live with substantial shedding. But honestly, I could live with a BRT. They are mixed with Newfies (to give them a kind disposition when not fighting for the Soviets, lol), so they have a silky double coat that just needs a lot of brushing (like 3 - 4x that of your Spoo, no kidding). But what sweet dogs! I am thoroughly in love. I hope that helps answer your question, and please give your Poodle extra love from us! 🐾

Hi Gina. What clipper are you using in this video? Or attachments? I have a BRT and always find it touch to use the clipper, but you seem to do it with ease here. Please help :)
@GinasGrooming
@GinasGrooming Год назад
Hi Emily! Ha, you must have a psychic bone in your body, because I just filmed a short (not yet released, but v soon) that goes through an experiment asking what's more important to get through a thick coat: a good clipper or good blades? (I'll fill you in, it's the blades!) That being said, if you are working on a BRT, it will be very helpful to have a powerful clipper along with those fantastic blades. I get away with my Oster Volt because I am equipped with Geib Buttercut blades (I am using a Wahl metal attachment #0 over a Buttercut #30 for the body work). But frankly, I am in need of a better corded clipper, and the Wahl KM10 is my next baby coming soon for sure: amzn.to/3Ci5a3u. For blades, I stand by Geib Buttercut for a million years (amzn.to/3VEkoGD), but Laube, Oster, and Wahl blades hold up really nicely. I hope that answers your question, because I am sure (unless the coat is matted or in some special condition), that if you try it with the right #30 blade under your metal attachment comb, *regardless* of your clipper, you'll see better results. (But yes, for your breed, a more powerful clipper will help). Thanks for your comment, appreciate you! 🙏

@@GinasGrooming Hi Gina, what kind of scissors are you using? I’ve recently started grooming my BRT myself, but I’ve just been using clippers,

Hi! Lovely video. I’m a professional groomer but haven’t had the pleasure of grooming this breed yet. I’m between a giant schnauzer and a BRT. How would you rate shedding? I currently have a Great Pyrenees and an American Akita - so I’m used to drowning in hair but would like to have one that isn’t shedding as much 😂
@GinasGrooming
@GinasGrooming 7 месяцев назад
Hi Amanda! Nice to meet a fellow groomer! 💕 I would def say they are far less sheddy than your Akita, and prob less than your GP. The BRTs are a mix of a lot of dogs, including Newfies, so their coats lean more in that direction. The grooming concerns are more about matting as opposed to shedding, if that paints a better picture. And after I blow them out, there is just a fine sheen of black fur in my tub and on my wall but nothing substantial. Hope that helps, and hope u get a chance to meet one of these beautiful dogs soon! 🐾😊

Perde pochissimo pelo, non puzza, è anallergico. Abbaia poco e solo per motivi validi. Deve solo essere molto socializzata da piccola sempre se non vuoi un cane da guardia alla proprietà

Does everyone keep the beard long? It's like a mop, dripping water everywhere. We bought the slow drink water bowl and it did not help at all.
@GinasGrooming
@GinasGrooming Год назад
Hi, great question... nope, not every BRT owner keeps the long beard (for the obvious reasons), but most do since they want that "look". But sure, I have done them in a teddy bear face style (look like a cute black doodle), and have also done faux beards, when you shorten everything under the chin but leave a fringe all around. I get it, I love this breed, but if I had one in my home, short beard it would be. Hope that helps and thanks! 😊
