Hello Diana, thank you for your massage depending on her coat I if I was you would do every 4 weeks. just take a the longest tips out and just a bit to start so you ceate layers.here is some more information for you. Dogs that are hand-stripped every 1-4 weeks: rolling coat This method is an alternative technique to avoid hand-stripping all of the topcoat at once. If you only hand-strip every 4-6 months, the coat goes from very long to very short each time. If you hand-strip every 1-4 weeks, the coat is never very short or long, the coat stays the same approximate length all the time. A rolling coat means that the coat consists of many different lengths or layers of topcoat. Each time you hand-strip, you only take out the longest layer, leaving all the other layers on the dog. This way you create a lot of different lengths and the dog always has a short but thick wire coat with a nice, deep colour. When you use this method, you can build different lengths and layers on different sections of the dog’s body. This can be done to add more body to a section of the coat or to create a slenderer look in a certain area. This is the best way to keep show dogs in a perfect condition throughout the years, unlike a stage-stripped coat that looks perfect for only a few weeks at a time before having to be stripped down again. How to hand-strip a dog coat in rolling coat with your fingers Before you start hand-stripping the topcoat, brush and comb the dog. Use carding tools to remove the dead undercoat or wool. When stripping for a rolling coat, it’s best to start at the backside of the dog and work your way towards the front. With this technique, both of your hands are very important. You make tweezers with the tip of your thumb and index finger of your dominant hand; you bring the tips of all five fingers of your non-dominant hand together. These are the two hand positions that are very important. With your non-dominant hand, you grab some of the hair and turn it upwards and against the coat growth. You do this with the tips of your fingers. The side of this hand rests on the dog and is used to hold the skin down while you are hand-stripping. If you do this movement, you will perfectly see the longest hair in the coat because they will stick out; these are the hairs you should hand-strip with your dominant hand. Once you have hand-stripped the longest layer of hair in one place, you move your non-dominating hand a bit towards the front of the dog and repeat the process. Do this until the full coat of the dog is done. Meanwhile, brush the coat with a terrier pad and see how the coat falls. If necessary, repeat again, but be careful not to strip too much topcoat at a time. thanks again and I hope you will enjoy handstripping your dog

Hi , Thank you for your question . No , this is not causing in any way pain for the dog . If you don't handstrip the coat , it will fall off, and you will have a lot of hair ( dead hair) in the house .
