Interesting how this was filmed in 2009 but this gentleman in 2021 now seems somewhat less enthusiastic about this method of heating… especially for existing housing stock.

@Cycling Viking, you are confusing ground source heat pumps, with air source heat pumps.
@spivvo
@spivvo 2 года назад
@@paulhillman400 aah actually you are right…… although my understanding is that neither are much good with and old house but are more suited to new builds with 21st century insulation and underfloor heating, would that be a fair assessment?

@@spivvo I wouldn't want all those pipes and fittings under my back lawn, there's to much to go wrong, break down, corrode,and perish. I'll be sticking with my gas boiler.

I've just installed gshp and it is very efficient running underfloor heating in our new house. The initial outlay is quite high but with the government renewable heat incentive payments over 7 years it's a great investment. My heating costs are approximately half of what a gas or oil boiler would have been. The payback without the heat incentive payments would be quite long though. I have no regrets at all though.

do you use it for heating and water? Do you need to have your house insulated to passive standards first?
@timhancock6626
@timhancock6626 Год назад
@@delatroy Yes it can be used for heating and hot water. No, you do not need a house built to passive house standards, but a well insulated house is better able to exploit heat pump technology whether air source or ground source. The key here is to have the system properly designed for the intended property and to have done the calculations for minimising heat losses in that property.

@@timhancock6626 thanks. I guess the cost / efficiency calculation needs to be done on insulting before / after heat pump 🤔

We are in the process of remodelling in Lancashire.Its quite a large house and the heating bills inn recent years are astronomical,we would like and integrated ground source heating,wood burners furnace for back up and solar electricity to run the electrical pumps,are we being unrealistic?Does Worceste/Bosch have multi system here or in Europe that minimises energy consumption?By the way,English Heritage are just so difficult when it comes to using this technology on listed homes.

I have one of these in my rented house but the thing was going on at reduculous hours and keeping everyone up all night with its humming and vibrating noises. The landlord has now turned it off but I want to set it to reasonable times like morning and night instead of 3am-7am like he had it. But I cant find settings on it to time it. How do I do that

Thank you for this awesome video. I would like to know if this form of renewable energy GSHP can be employed in Ghana for heating, ventilation and air conditioning in other to save the pressure on the national grid of which domestic use of electricity contributes about 36%?

wildly bespoke, complex, laborious, time consuming, and therefore expensive installations. shame since one cannot argue with the incredible efficiency of heat pumps themselves. needs to be a better, faster method of doing this somehow.

Great idea for summer.... BUT in the summer your not using to much heating & GSHP producing more then enough... in the winter GSHP can’t give you enough amount of energy and still requires “back up “ electric, gas or oil to complete your heating amount requirements. Big minuses of that system: 1) it’s very , VERY complicated for customers to understand if something goes wrong( power cuts ex.) and need again put all parameters into the system. You alway will need call out to manufacture for setting up system or make accessible online for engineering work. 2) Very expensive!!! 3) and in the end Gold Life experience : when more your system complicated, when more electric controlling components added into it, When more plastic & rubber push fittings -- THEN LESS lifetime for that system. And in the end its will be not cheaper.... But Thank you very much for video! Good work!

I like ground source heat pumps but heating a pool!???? I have heard of these systems cooling down the ground that they become over used. Surely in the summer you should be leaving the system off so that it can 'recharge' otherwise the temperature will be dropping and dropping in the ground and the system getting less and less efficient. I am thinking of putting one of these systems in under a cow shed- cows produce lots of heat and lie down a lot! Rant over.

So it works when the sun is shining, GREAT, what happens in winter when the clouds obscure the sun and the ground is covered by snow?. If I understand this correctly, most of the heat is produced by compressing the liquid as the pipes are beyond the reach of the sun . Surely it would be a lot cheaper and easier to buy an oil filled radiator.

I wonder after all these years, its over a decade now, such people installed that, did it meet expectations, and what negatives these techs have. I see that roger on skill builder now, is quite negative towards such heat pump technology. Makes one wonder, what geographical cut of point there is for these techs, ie is the further north you are, the worse these techs will be in there effectiveness. I saw on another vid, some installers say that heat pumps are useless north of cardiff.

OK I dont understand how putting the pipe under the ground does much more than maybe keep the water from freezing,, but where is the heat coming from, the ground is not that hot,,,,,

The soil is not a good conductor of heat and the moisture content either. However the various different minerals that are contained in the moisture content in the soil are a very good conductor of electricity. So it's variable and thermal conductivity is determined by mineral content in soil water.
