I think having a Kyle is better than having someone who actually works with you but is incompetent .It's so hard to edit their work without offending them. Man,I hate group projects.

For the record, we did give Kyle a bad evaluation to the prof and his grade was greatly affected. We left him to believe the rest of us received the same grade.

The only thing I've learned from group assignments is to trust no one.

How to have a successful group assignment: • Ask your groupmates what they're good at and their weaknesses, if they are not good at a certain something, assign another mate to do it • let them share their ideas • dont interrupt them while they are working on something, this leads to you irritating them • share your ideas too If this doesn't work, a kyle is on your team

One time I was assigned a group project of 3. When the teacher saw that I was the only one working, she automatically failed the other two members in that assignment...love you teacher

I once did like 65% of the work in a group project and I didn't mind the fact that it was only myself and my friend working. But what really got me was that the two Kyles in our group told the teacher they did all the work and said that my friend and I didn't deserve any credit. Hehe it backfired on them tho my teacher occasionally watches us work and knew that the two Kyles didn't do anything the whole time. They got 20/100 (which was considered generous by our teacher) and my friend and I got 95/100 so that's nice.

During online school, we had a 5 person project with six parts (ours was the only group short) -- one person doesn't even attend the online class, one did their work half complete the day it was due, and the two others did the bare minimum -- I did half the project, but at least I got an A+ while they all got Bs and Cs.

this is why i love being in honors classes. usually group assignments are rare but when we do have them everyone ACTUALLY works together, i think mainly for the reason of just getting it over with.

Story time: I was sick for a week and got placed in a bad group for our presentation. They assigned me a couple of slides which I did decent enough. I decided to go over the whole presentation the night before and every single word of text was either plagiarized or down right wrong. I decided not to tell the teacher because they would get expelled, but I greatly regret that because they both gave me a bad score because “you weren’t there for most of the work” I DID THE WORK. I still regret giving 100s even though they were terrible partners because I ain’t about confrontation.

I would have made a complaint to the teacher. I had a group assignment where me and two of my friends reported the two who did nothing, they got tested on what we did and knew nothing so they got an F while the rest of us got As. He should have gotten nothing if you do nothing you deserve nothing. They failed the grade.

I had no friends freshmen year during high school. It was a 4 person at least assignment for our history class about a activism campaign. A whole 9 page “essay” (I went 15 page by myself) with a table of content, real world problem, how we would spread our campaign, etc. all complete with a poster to spread our message. It was our finals and I had a b, I needed to get atleast something like an a in the assignment to push my grade up to an a, I was really worried because this class was the easiest but the one I slacked off the most is so It was really clutch. I ended up having the best campaign the teacher even offered to use it as an example template for next year’s. I not only got a 100 percent on the assignment which pushed my grade up to higher than I needed to be but I also beat people who had 6 people in their group (their grades dropped down to b’s) I almost got in trouble for being by myself but the teacher allowed it because he was satisfied with my work. It was pretty depressing though because I had legit no one to work with.

I remember during my final year of University (I was studying animation) We were all told that we needed to group up for our projects. I missed out on pairing up with the people who I really wanted to be with and ended up stuck with someone who ended up dropping out of both the project and the class, so I was left on my own. Surprisingly, my lecturer didn't try to force me to squeeze into another group and just let my do my project on my own which, funnily enough, ended up benefiting me. Every now and then I'd show up to the class on my free days to work on my project and I'd always find one of the groups there all looking like they wanted to die. There was always someone who was slacking super hard to the point that they brought everyone else down and I'd always be the one who'd people would bitch to about the supposed slacker. It got so bad, our class was given a deadline extension 3 times because no one was near close to finishing. You'd think that when you're paired up, it would make a project much easier but no, there's always someone who uses it as an opportunity to chill. I only had myself to get mad at if I slacked.

If you see it enough, Kyle is actually helping by distracting the other groups.

For my history final in 10th grade i was assigned to work with two people. One who pulled her weight and the other who sat on his phone watching youtube. The girl and I finished our final and didn't put his name on it. He failed history and had to retake it in the summer, just because he didn't do the final. Good.

In my Social Studies class, my teacher let's us work in groups a lot. The downside of that is for ME, is that she doesn't pick the groups, she let's US pick the groups. You know why that's kinda bad for me? Cause I BARELY know anybody in my Social Studies class and I end up having to work on an assignment on my own or just study by myself. And then it get's REALLY akaward when my teacher notices me alone and says something like , "Hey, do you wanna work with them?" or, "Do you want me to quiz you for the test?"

I also hate when there is one person who does all the work and refuses any help, and then get angry because they did all the work. If you refuse help, don't expect to get it.

In my experience, types of people working on a group assignment : The one who complains about having to do all the work on their own but does nothing The one who actually does 98% of the work The one who promises to help but never does The one who tries to help but has no idea what is going on The one is absent throughout the project but somehow appears while submitting it The one who just gets some supplies and then disappears (these guys at least do something) The one who actually helps get the 2% of work done Conclusion : Group projects suck (UNLESS you actually get to choose who to work with, then its fun)

Over the years in colleges, I realize that having only 1 deadweight in an assignment group is a blessing. Currently I'm working with 3 other deadweights in a 4-man grp who still have no idea about week 1 basics in a really heavy programming assignments with devops and scrum involved.

"The work was so complicated that groups even started working with other groups". Sounds about right.

I don't like partner assignments because I used to always have to work with this one guy who never listened or came up with an idea. The only times that I wasn't working with him was when we picked our own partners. I said this to mom and she said something along the lines of " the reason why you are always partnered with him is because you are the only person in the class other than the teacher who can even slightly tolerate him." That was the funniest but truest thing I have ever heard.

Every group project, I got placed with Kyle's. There was one project worth $400 if u came in first place. There were four people per group. The teacher noticed I was the only one working and when we won (which was a surprise) the teacher told the principal that I did all the work and I got all the money.

You know what's worse? When your whole group is Kyle and you're the only non-Kyle. My final project in the 1st year of my uni course was a group assignment - an essay. I was blessed with the most dysfunctional set of people. After my initial insisting on getting together to work on this fell on deaf ears, I gave up so our "strategy" was we go our separate ways, work on our segments independently then jam it all together last second. I volunteered to do the jamming since I knew nobody else gave a shit, and you know what I got? Word for word articles ripped off Wikipedia from two people. No sources from one person.You'd then think being the only non-native English speaker in the group I'd at least would not have to worry about the grammar, right? Wrong. The only guy in the group apparently never heard of a comma. We certainly wouldn't have won a contest had we been in your situation (unless it was a contest for the worst essay in human history).

There was a group assignment I had in 6th grade where we worked in groups of 4, and had to make a house design for a certain class. I literally received no help from any of my group members and turned in the project on my own for a freaking 107% which of course was added to the other people's grades. I was so mad!!!!!

When the teacher chooses your groups. And you HOPE to get your friends in your group but you get KYLE.

My friends were always in the more advanced classes than I was and I'm really socially anxious and kinda keep to myself so I often "got stuck" with whoever. Some good, some bad. I've always had this bad habbit of having 2 modes in group projects: "No one wants to help, I just wanna get it over with really fast and not think about it later cause it's important." = "Fine I'll do it myself" The other is the exact opposite, we have time it's not a big deal other assignments are more pressing I don't wanna schedule to "get together" somewhere to meet to work on it to ultimately get very little done when I could relax or do other homework due sooner etc. Neither are conducive to groups cause both modes of my work flow are very independent and they're either detrimental to others, or the others become counter productive to me just doing the work anyways. I always feel like if I'm in more of the laid back/ too stressed about other things to focus on the project mode then I hold others back cause I barely contribute, and when I wanna just hammer things out and get things done I get stuck with 3 Kyles that talk to each other about unrelated stuff the entire time and occasionally give me research while I basically do it alone then divvy out scripts for the presentation for folks to work on memorizing/researching so they know what they're doing. I am very independent detail oriented methodical and kinda work at my own pace. I don't like relying on others or vice versa when I don't have to. Cause I don't wanna let a team down if I'm in a place where I'm dragging and on the opposite end, I don't wanna have 3 people distracting me when I have to pull their share of the work anyway and just make something they can present. I can't say how many group projects I purposefully worked alone on despite it being twice the work and actually did BETTER on because of that. I'm willing to take on more in less time if it's doable but I can't be having to do a ton of different thing at once and focus on people while I do, or vice versa sometimes I just wanna screw around and watch anime till the last second, and I don't want other's work and grade to reflect my procrastinating. I've always been very the only thing I can control is what I do, so I don't wanna be the factor that causes someone who cares way more to crash and burn (like it was in relay races) or the person relying on others who ends up doing all their shit at the last second especially when I would have gotten it done quick and easy in the first or last 3 days of the project alone and passed or even aced it anyways :P waiting on people to "do their piece" frustrates me. and so does feeling like I'm the weak link if I keep folks waiting.

Since I'm smart (and Asian .. Doesn't really affect anything other then studying all the time) I hate doing group projects... 1. I usually do all the work 2. If I get forced to have my other people work with me, I usually have to tell them what to do. 3. I usually get no credit at all since everybody knows I'm smart so it's usual that I would do something good (the other people think i didn't do anything and let them do it mfw...)

*EVERYONE* with group assignments may relate to this. Somebody cool and dumb comes into the group and says to everyone: "iM tHe LeAdEr, YoU wIlL dO wHaT i SaY" and everyone in the group accepts that and then he/she tells them to do something crappy and/or janky in the project. Then, you tell them: "No, let's do _(insert good idea)_ instead." You're right, but the _"leader"_ says: "nO tHaT sUcKs, LeT's Do My IdEa" and *EVERYONE AGREES WITH HIM, EVEN THOUGH HE'S WRONG!!!*

Well it's important to me that we all have to talk to each other what have we done. They can't shown up on meeting saying they haven't done anything about the topic knowing they relying on one person intelligent. The point is that their are the ones who is responsible to keep up their topic or reading, share the idea in order to show that you've contribute with each other in your group. If no one does anything it's not fair that we all receive an equal mark done as group work.

I'm lazy on my own, but I usually try to pull my weight when I'm forced to be in a group because I'm afraid of my team getting mad at me.

Why do teachers believe group assignments are a good idea? They aren't. No one likes them, why do they think everyone asks if they can do it alone? It's not like it helps you make friends either, and we're one year away from university, group assignments are childish and unprofessional. Besides, some students live hundreds of kilometers away from eachother, which means 70% of the time you'll end up splitting the work.

I don't think I've ever had a Kyle in my group. Which can only mean one thing. I'm the Kyle o-o

Usually "the slacker" is the 2nd most smartest kid in class. Believe me, I know.

I always hated group assignments in school. Every time, I somehow got stuck with people who procrastinated, did a half-decent job on their part, or didn't do their fair share. English was the worst because everyone knew I was the goody-goody bookworm and so no matter who I ended up with, they seemed to be lazy on purpose because they knew I'd pick up their slack. There's nothing more insulting than people mistaking, "Hey, I'm a nice person and take pride in my work" for, "Hey, I'm a doormat, trample all over me."

In my APUSH class, there's always this guy who inserts himself into my group for projects. He doesn't even ask any of us for permission. He just walks over and joins us. Every single time, we have had to carry his weight. He does the smallest amount of work and thinks that he did soooo much. He's taken our extra credit and high grade every time we work with him. And when working in other groups who scored well, he's not anywhere near humble to groups that didn't do nearly as well. Sadly, my other 2 friends and I are too nice to tell him to back tf up. He isn't there when we work for days. And when he sees what we came up with when we finished, he always points out some flaw. Well gee, if you knew we would do something wrong, why weren't you there when we were working? And even with that miniscule mistake that seems like the apocalypse, we will still get a high score, no thanks to you and your arrogant ass.

I'm in a group project right now and one of them arrogantly said they had it all handled and didn't let us participate. When we got to see what she did, it was amazing by how pretentious and long it was while somehow it answered none of the professor's requirements. So, I had to rewrite it and then my other partner got finished and when I opened it.....so many errors that I had to fix :D
