When I was doing group projects in uni I picked people who looked 30 and over. They are almost always far, far more reliable than people fresh out of high school.

Group projects are either: 1. You end up doing all the work 2. People don’t let you do anything

“I took the initiative and made a group text” this is how you know you’ll be carrying the group for the duration of the project 😩

I remember watching this as a middle schooler and remember laughing at the wild adventure, now as a junior in Graphic Design I’m genuinely shocked your project was JUST a video summarizing the chapter AND JUST 6 minutes for everyone…I had a group project last year and GOD. DAMN. I basically had a group project where 4 people needed to create an 8 PAGE ESSAY around Ancient Greek Entertainment. We each needed to have 5,000 words per section with scholarly sources and specific citation (which as a tiny reminder they didn’t TEACH any of us how to properly cite things in an essay). I can tell you I was in agony that entire project especially when it was one of the only projects in the class we got a grade for…I’ve never experienced any anxieties in my life before that but I legit had a panic attack when I first was trying to wrap my head around footnotes. It was rough. It also sucked knowing that I had to make sure that not only MY section was good, but EVERY OTHER SECTION had to be on that level or I’d likely get hit hard. It’s the only time I’ve been grateful that a class was pass fail

I hate those moments where you ask something in chat but everyone else in your group only sees it and not reply.

Two reasons I hate group projects: 1. Idiots who don't contribute and leave everything up to you. 2. I have no friends in any of my classes.

Any college professor who forces a group project as a final baffle me. To me it feels like they either want this to happen or are too dense to realize how common this problem is in group projects. It's like a form of social torture but with the added bonus of YOUR grade being on the line...

The professor's response was way better than expected. They usually dismiss the problem by saying it was part of your responsibility and that you had enough time and blah blah blah

Imagine those girls watching this. They must be like. Huh.... they sound annoying.

Had to do a report with 3 other girls for class. One girl didn't show up to class, or respond to texts, for the entire 6 week period of the project. The day of presentation, she actually showed up, hadn't read the book, and was like "OK what's my speaking portion?" Professor sniffed out the issue and asked her to sit down after we got up to present 🤣

I just learned, 5 years after this video was posted, that Reneesme (ren-esmee) is in fact the name of the child in twilight. I hate that I have acquired this knowledge but at least the name checks out.

When I die, I want the people I did group projects with to lower my coffin into the ground so they can let me down one last time.

This is why I always work by myself in school. You can't trust anyone. Trust no one but yourself.

Oh gosh. Flashbacks. This video gave me all of the group project trauma flashbacks. At least jaiden had a reasonable professor. I remember going to my teacher in high school when neither of the other members in my group would do ANYTHING. One of them even said he was failing the class anyway so he wasn’t going to work on this. When I pointed out we would ALSO fail he said he didn’t care. My teacher’s response to this was that I had to find a way to work with all kinds of people. She also told me she’d know if I just did all the work myself and she would fail me because it was a group project. She gave me the talk about how once I’m an adult I’d have to work with other people and get along with everyone. Which turned out to be NOT TRUE! You know what happens at a job if one person won’t work?! THAT person gets written up or fired. At no point in my adult life have I ever been responsible for peers in the way I was at FOURTEEN in that dang group project. (Yes, I do believe that teacher hated me, especially since she assigned the groups and had previously worked with my father who she did not like.)

I literally love this video. I recently had a group project that my group cared about but they didn't care about me enough to tell me what they were even doing. At the time of presenting they threw me under the bus and told me I had to do it because they didn't "revise" the notes. But fortunately the teacher forgot about it and I was saved. They even opened another group without me because they weren't serious about the presentation. Ughhh I swear sometimes I hate teenagers smmm. All I know is that I'm not doing that presentation. They won't tell me what to do I'm not doing it. Thanks Jaiden. This video helped me through it. People can be such jerks:/

4:33 grade preschool got me dying

For digi tech, we had to (wait for it) get a partner, come up with and prototype an app in two weeks. The partner was randomized. So. Of course I had to come up with the app idea, and make the presentation myself while my partner kept fiddling with my mouse. My partner did actually none of the work. Nada. But what really annoyed me was how they passed it off as if they did their fair share as well, when I actually poured my heart and soul into this and was proud of the end result. It's so irritating when your partner gets the same mark as you when they did nothing, and made the experience frustrating.

I’m afraid I’ve been the nightmare person in a group project. The project was a presentation for Anthropology, about people we’d studied in their natural environment. The workload was split pretty evenly; each of us had a specific job to do, and mine was to write the discussion questions for our classmates. Unfortunately, when I was walking home one night, some maniac threw a water balloon from a moving car and nailed me in the head. Fun physics fact: hitting water at a high enough velocity is like hitting cement. Thanks to my newly acquired concussion, I wasn’t able to get any discussion questions written, and the rest of the group had to do my work for me. Thankfully, they weren’t mad at me for it. I ended up having to withdraw from the class, though, because all of the course material was online, and you’re supposed to minimize screen use while recovering from a head injury, so I quite literally couldn’t do any of the coursework.

During my senior year I had a crappy group project where I ended up in a similar situation with me doing 85% of the work and so I used this video as inspiration and added credits to the project. And the other group members never asked to see the final project so they never found out

I got super lucky with my group projects. My team was organized and they worked very hard to make things work. Sorry to hear things were so rough, but good on you for putting in the work. You deserve an A for effort.

oh its been 6 years but i finally have a hillarious group project story; my final assignment for sound journalism is a group project that involves a group of three creating a podcast. we have to research, script, record, panel, edit etc. this podcast as a group of three, then write down a 1000 or so word mini essay basically critiquing our group -- what we did well, what we did poorly etc. my tutor is also the subject coordinator, so hes incredibly busy and doesnt tend to keep track of our names. this shot him firmly in the foot when he put me in a group with two people who were absent. both of their names are pretty generic, but to be on the safe side imma call them L and C i went 'okay, ill just write down their uni emails and ask for their contact details', and when i do that, C responds, stating he couldn't make it to class due to the recent floodings in nsw. i wish him the best and that i hope to see him in the next class. then L responds by saying that he dropped out of the class. okay, thats a bit odd but hey! its not like i dont know what class C is in -- wait a minute, i just said i was in this specific tutors class and didnt give the exact time. when C didnt show up the next week, i emailed him again, this time informing him i was in this specific time of class. that's when he blows my mind and tells me he will come to the class im in next week. i immediately pin the blame on my tutor, because hes supposed to apparently know everyone in his class or w/e -- i was angry jsyk -- to the point where i wrote an angry complaint in the student feedback survey. the next week, i email my tutor, basically begging him for an extension or special consideration or something, and he calls me. we chat for a bit and he says that if C didnt show up to class that day, wed figure something out. i explained to him the different class times situation, to which my tutor responds "oh, we can talk about that after class then". so i show up to class and... guess whos not there? i am mad and after class my tutor and i talk, during that he says hes gonna try to move me to a group, but to be careful bc i dont know how far it is. then i leave class and at 7:40pm - this class is at 5:00pm btw - i get a response from C saying that he was sick and that he will show up next week. fool me once and all that. i text him back saying that the tutor and i have already discussed what im doing and that he should probably do the same, and that i wished him the best. i got put in the new group - and they aren't as far along as my tutor thought they were gonna be -, and C hasn't been in this class for the last week and a bit. huh.

group work really sucks, mostly when you have to be with a random group (really feels like no one is working this sucks)

Professors always say "group projects are supposed to prepare you for the working world after college by helping you understand what it's like to work with others and the difficulties that brings". Except in college if a student doesn't do any work in the group project they re-take the class and get a do-over. If their parents are paying their tuition it's basically a "woops my bad" and that's it. In the working world if you don't do your job you eventually get fired, starve to death, and lose your mortgage. They are not the same thing.

Honestly I was going through this video (I know it's an old video) But I agree with you and I am so glad you got and gave yourself the credit you deserved. You truly did and should not have even given them audio credit because sayin the odd few lines is what you asked them to do. They wanted you to do all the work and hope to get at least half the credit. I can bet you they we're both probably in on this or genuinely didn't like each other, either way messed up and I'm sorry you had to do all of it.

This is why you always try to do stuff alone if you’re committed into doing the project and wanting to pass. I always go into this situation and it always ends up like this. I don’t blame Jaiden for any of this. And obviously no one else does as well.

Honestly same. We started the project in school, I brought all the research notes made a concept and then got sick. Not that I didn't trust my randomly assigned group but... Did whole project alone with fever and strep throat destroying me, because I had a premonition... And yes, the whole two weeks I was home, they haven't done a single thing. Our art teacher literally put aside 3 hours of his class so everyone could work on this project at school. And if they just took the written notes and pasted it next to some doodles, I wouldn't have said a thing. But no, not a single smudge of pencil was added... So I just threw them under the bus. Chad was a champ and just went: fair. Karen... Oh boy, she was witching about it for months.

I remember my first group project. One of the members of my group project decided to drop out of college altogether. 😳 Second group project, both of the people in my group ditched me the night we were supposed to present our project to the class. Thankfully our professor was kind enough to move the date. The class was called First Year Experience so it wasn't a big part of our major. So a lot of people didn't take the class seriously.

In the 5th grade we had a group project in our English class I believe? I was with people I disliked. I didn’t even do anything because I honestly just wasn’t in the mood to and they were all like “oMg yOu’Re NoT dOiNg AnYtHiNg” and they weren’t either because they were searching up weird things on Google rather than doing the project. Btw they were the ones who have bullied me throughout my elementary years which is why I didn’t want to help them. I moved schools in 7th grade and I hope each of them are suffering in high school rn. I’m in my sophomore year right now.

I was always the 1 doing the group projects by myself aswell, I also failed every time, while they didn't. I learned a great lesson in school, don't do anything & it'll probably be fine, whatever you do, don't work hard. so glad I spend almost 20 years of my life in school to learn absolutely nothing.
