Most of these people probably weren't even born yet when the Hustle came out -- but it's timeless and watching them let loose and have so much fun is putting a huge smile on MY face!
When I learned this dance in gym class in '77, there was no 'Travolta'. I'm not sure where the heck that came from, but it's different from the original way people danced it in the 70's. It's easier, though, and plays into the fun of the 70's vibe and nostalgia. And who doesn't love the Travolta? Dance on! :)
I've been listening to this song since I was a kid in the 1970s and this is the first hustle tutorial I've ever seen. I was doing my best to do the dance steps with the people in the video so thank you for posting!
What a wonderful video you guys. I used to dance but never learned the complete hustle. I will be practicing now. Thank you I think you did well everyone!!
very, very close to the Hustle we originally did...NO ONE "pointed" with a finger....We simply kept our fingers together in a graceful "wave" style. So glad I'm old!
Learned to do this while in the Army by one of the doctors I worked with who taught us how to do this and other dances during our breaks and lunchtime...
I learned this dance in high school gym class in the mid to late 70s. This was definitely the Hustle I learned. Never would and never will dance this way in heels. Edit I think this dance was performed to the song Night Fever in Saturday Night Fever.
This is really close to The Hustle that we did - it was so great. I loved my platform shoes - we just had great calves to keep our Candies on and stay vertical! I don't know if anyone knows (or really wants to know) but the guys with long hair, shades, etc., are dressed like the 60's, not the mid 1970's when The Hustle was popular. No peace signs then. The instructor looks like the disco ladies of the time! We had so much fun and I loved the video! Really took me back. Thanks and Keep on Truckin'.
Hello Jeanette, Ah yes, the Deborah Harry Candie's , weren't those the bomb? It's a shame things can't stay the way we remember them, but true classics never really go out of style, boogie on !
Were good years Jeanette. We did our Hustle in the George pub, Northfield, lol The Rum Runner, Snobs, Rebeccas, Barbarellas, The Lecarno...ohhhh the dayyyyys 👍
I agree, except…in the Midwest, St. Louis area, in Disco Era, us girls either wore disco dresses or bell bottoms &halter tops and a lot of guys still had long hair, flared pants, tight, pointed collar shirts. We all wore platform shoes and Peace signs&gold chains were very popular. There were a lot of Discos in the Bi-state counties of St. Louis Metro area and across the river in Illinois. So many great memories!
@@lindalouise4340 Hi Linda!!!! If I had lived in your area, and had known you, we could have had the best fun! Thanks for your comment. I miss those days so much!!!😃
@@starluna03 Yes because I lived in a small town in NZ that only had one primary school and one High School ... at 11 you left the primary school and went straight to the high school into form one class because we did not have an intermediate school because the population wasn't big enough. Now the population of said town is even smaller and the primary school I went to has gone and all that remains is the one high school for children of all ages and is now known as the Area School' ... so next time you doubt someone or question their credibility try to think beyond your limited imagination and bear in mind that you might just not know it all after all.
@@booth2710 I noticed it too but I thought it was a typo and assumed there was more to it, nobody would make that kind of error to deceive people...too obvious. I loved your comment to put this buffoon in his place. LMAO..😂. Society has so many of these people trying to show their superiority and moral compass, it makes them feel important , when in fact it blows up in their face. LOVE IT!!!!
There's a vid of Pan's People dancing to this on Top of the Pops back in '75. No idea what they were dancing, and they probably didn't know either, but it sure wasn't The Hustle!
When we used to do the "old school" hustle in BK, we never had to count off anything. We just got on the floor and did our thing. As a female, if you got a man that was a good leader, you could basically clear the floor.
This is what life use to be about. Having fun instead of all the negative comments. By the way there are many variations on dances and music depending sometimes to regional, country and etc., plus I believe it says: Hustle Fever Night. Not being there they might be learn different dances associated to the Hustle. Learn to enjoy life and have fun stop worrying about the little things.
Well, those days are long gone unfortunately sweetie and it seems they won't be coming back anytime soon. It's sad but the unfortunate reality we live in.
We didn't do the "Saturday Night Fever- John Travolta" hustle. The movement with the arms is hilarious. Check out old clips of Soul Train to see how to hustle.
That is because this song came out two years before the movie. This is some hybrid version of the original dance and the movie dance. The arm stuff was definitely not in the original dance. I've only been able to find one video that has the original dance.
Folks, take a look at the official music video of the Van McCoy song, the Hustle. There you will see the dance that went with the song. Several versions, but all with 2 people as partners, not a line dance
I can never get through this song with the proper dance. After about 30 seconds I start spinning in circles and gliding around in some mutated version of The Hustle...lol.… Same with “Loves Theme“ by Love Unlimited Orchestra. 😀💕
This was in Saturday Night Fever. It is NOT the original dance called the Hustle! As someone suggested, watch some old episodes of Soul Train to see how to do the Hustle. It's done with a partner, not a line dance!
i have a question, theres kind of a version of this for country and then theres another one version that everybody knows in the us and does it like in weddings and parties, what is that one called?
For about the first half of this video, the guy on the far left looks a lot like Victor Arroyo from Big Brother 18... Nicole's guy and partner on this years Amazing Race.
oooh my God, I am in love with that woman in the brown dress and black pantys and her long beauitiful long brown hair. She is a gift from heaven with her constantly sweet smile. Who is she ??????
We had to learn this in dance class in the seventh grade. We did much better than these adults are doing...of course, , most of us knew it from the movie long before dance class
bigkozlov Apparently, there were several different dances back then that were named "The Hustle". One of them was a line dance, like this, and another was a couples dance.
Sequence is not the same as in the movie. After the 360 vine, kick ball change, skate, disco point, roll hands, chicken, etc. .....watch the movie again. You missed the kick ball change and skate. Maybe that's how you do this in California. The rest of the moves are great!
This is not how you do The Hustle. The song came in 1975, 2 years before Saturday Night Fever came out in 1977. At the time the song came out, nobody even knew who John Travolta was. The dance is: starting on the left foot, three steps forward, tap right foot. Three steps back, tap left foot. Repeat. Turn step to the left, tap right foot, turn step to the right, tap left foot. Step close to the left, step close to the right. Quick tap left front, quick tap right front, pivot turn and take it from the top. No Travolta arms, no arm rolls, no elbow flaps.
