Know 1970s: Do the Hustle! 

Who knew that when I searched for the hustle, I got a video made by my local library! Amazing!

My mom taught my sister and I this dance as little girls... omgoodness, the memories! 43 years ago or so

That was so much fun, I’ve just been dancing with myself for half an hour ,can’t get the smile off my face 🕺🕺🕺

I'm 26 and I love this song. Didn't know it's an actual dance to this but I live oldies. Wish I was around during the 70s and 80s

I love the way you teach. That's a real teacher taking time to do the steps and counts. I'm 63 and my grandson is getting married and want to do the 🕺💃

We all had to learn to the The Hustle in Jr High Gym class '77. Yes, I'm that old. lol We learned slightly different choreography though. It's all good fun though! Two thumbs up. :)

Wow! I haven't looked at this video in years! Thank you for the kind comments, this was an impromptu video my local library asked me to do during COVID so people could learn the "Hustle" line dance. I am a dance instructor but not a professional dancer with a sound studio and professional backup dancers. This was in the beginning of COVID before we had more tools for online classes for better sound. I talked my sister and husband into doing this with me for support. This is the only video that I've put on You Tube and I can't believe some of the comments are so rude. We were just having fun and putting something out there for our local library...jeez! I'm glad some people can be nice and enjoyed themselves 😄

We danced the Hustle in our elementary schools' gym class. Loved it! Maybe 4th grade.

Breaking it up into parts really does make it seem easier. So it must be once you get those basics down, you can adlib, like switching arms halfway into the Travolta, for example.

I remember doing this in the 6th grade. A girl brought the 45 in and the teacher let us have some free time to just dance it out at the end of the day. Even a few of the boys joined in. What a great memory.

Look up Van McCoy original Hustle - there were several versions and a lot of people simplified it. In the 60s & 70s there were new dances all the time. It was impossible to learn them all and most people improvised too.

I was just reminded that this dance was called the “Bus Stop”!

When my gym teachers taught the class to do the dance. They did not have us clapping nor the Travolta points. They just taught us to the movement gong back then forth, then to the side and back. We were told to get a bit more inventive.

I haven’t done do the hustle and mini years. I just happen to hear this song on the radio today and on my phone and I can’t remember how the dance goes.

Although I grew up in California , was 14 in 1979, we did a different "The Hustle". Even taught a whole bunch of girl scouts at a boring jamboree. They loved it! We had to create the rhythm ourselves. 😊

I did this dance as well in the 70’s. There were different versions The Latin Hustle being one. Also perhaps there were regional ones? This is close but not exact to what we danced in our Gym.

I’m sorry I was windows New Yorkers born and raised who partied in the 70s and went to a lot of nightclubs and that was not the hustle from the 70s that’s the hustle that they made you think it was from Saturday night fever but that is not the actual hustle the hustle is similar to ballroom dancing where a couple actually intertwined with each other and there’s a lot of lifting and twisting and turning involved we took a lot of pride and a lot of exercise that we did in a lot of practice through the days leading up to the weekend so that we can have a competitionsOr show off on the floor so before you start showing these things please do your history thank you

I think this dance is called either “The Walk”, “Disco Line Dance” or “The Bus Stop”. The Hustle is a couple’s dance, not a line dance.

If I decide to have skinnyfit, can I still eat foods moderately?

I danced the hustle when I was 2nd year high school 1972 and that’s not way.
