I'm a huge baseball fan ( die hard Mets fan) and played my whole life since about 5 years old up until 12th grade varsity, plus every summer, senior league etc...I was set looking at colleges and had a few colleges scouting me ( no division one or anything like that) I woke up one morning in my senior league in the middle of the season and could hardly walk on my right hip. I went for an mri and found out I have juvenile Arthritis. My whole " career" ended at that point and years later now I have really bad arthritis throughout my body. My dad has it, so I inherited through him, unfortunately. I fell into a deep depression after all that and went into a tailspin for several years until I got back on track, but till this day it hasn't been easy..I know you'll probably never see this, but I felt compelled to let it out. Thanks for your awesome channel for those of us who never had the chance to experience all you did. We can live vicariously through you, and that's pretty cool.

This is classic. Just from Matt's level of uncomfortable, It is easy to tell, he's not BS-ing when he says groupie chicks were not his thing. Its kinda amusing how he tells the story. I saw it for myself. Not with baseball players, but with minor league hockey players. I worked at a sports bar here for 5 years and saw a plethora of shenanigans. I bartended . So i had girls come up to me and say things like. "Do you know ( player)? Can you see if he's here?"....."I like ( says players name). Can you introduce him to me?" Stupid stuff like that.. Some of the guys I got to know fairly well. These were more veteran players. Nearly all of them had wives or long time girlfriends. They wanted nothing to do with the groupies. So, every so often I had to be the 'gate keeper'....They'd ask me to get them to bugger off one way or another. I could be real creative...But nice about it.

It's their thing. Why would they do that? Because baseball players are young attractive men who have potential to make a lot of money. It's simple economics. If you worked in a gold mine, would you not mine for gold? (And no I'm not saying groupies are gold diggers, except for uh yeah...)

Just say it- they want the opportunity to potentially hook a guy who is rich and potentially famous. Hypergamy at its best!

Some years ago, I was at a business convention at a fancy hotel in KC. The opposing team was staying at our hotel. After the game, a #of the players went to the hotels bar for a few beers. My Lord, there were "groupie" woman everywhere!! Tight mini-skirts, high-heels, all dolled-up. One player (I won't mention his name...he was a famous athlete) had probably 8-10 woman flocking around him at all-times. Anyway, that's my "groupie" story.

Your videos are great, I learn a lot as a lifetime baseball fan. My dream as a kid was to play first base for the Washington Senators but my lack of top shelf talent spoiled that.

If memory serves, in the movie Bull Durham they called them “Baseball Annies”. I thought there was a certain charm to that.

This might be the most awkward video ever. LOL. I would imagine this story would be so much better if you were telling it at the bar, with friends...rather than knowing your parents/wife will be seeing. I love the disclaimers....I have heard, allegedly, I suppose some people know what groupies are...not me..

There are a few reason the groupies come out.... 1. MONEY.. some ball players have money. Some want to have a baby to get money coming to them... 2. A lot of the players are young and athletic. 3. Celebrity even in the minors. Just like a local band still has groupies. You are in the spotlight so they want to be with the people in the spotlight. I am sure there are a few more but this is the major ones.

He's keeping his explanation so pc because he knows his wife is watching. I especially love that he's low-key acting like he doesn't know what groupies are or what their purpose is. LMAO!! Electrifying.

Mr. Matt 😉 It happens all the time...man back in 1992 and 1993 I use to goto a minor league park named Bill Meyer Stadium. I remember seeing these perfect 10 girls miniskirt heels top of the line. I was like I'm going do to talk to one of them. My friend laughed and said 1st your bank account is at the right amount 2nd you don't play baseball. I was like well I am the all time wiffle ball homerun champion in my neighborhood and 2nd I have 100 one dollar Bill's I can roll up into a stack of cash. He laughed and said ok then you drive a Sunbird. But back to the girls they was called 2 different things. 1st Gold Diggers 2nd let's just keep it Disney and call them Dreamers. Be safe

I personally know a woman who used to date Bobby Abreu while he was still dating Alicia Machado. She was a security guard (or something like that) for the Phillies. VERY pretty girl who lived up the road from my brother John. I had heard the rumors but wasn't sure whether or not they were true. Several years later, I spoke with her and asked her point-blank. She openly admitted she dated Bobby while he was dating someone else. This woman is now in her late 40s and has multiple serious health issues. So these types of people are out there. Ladies, keep a close eye on your man!
