I've grouted 100's of showers over the past 20+ years as a contractor, and when it comes to white grout there's really only one type that lasts and can always be refreshed to its bright white color and that is Epoxy grout. I can vouch for the epoxy grout. We have it in all of our showers, and it truly is the easiest to clean, and you can make your grout look new with a good scrub. 👍💪

Nice work! Used white epoxy grout on my last shower and was like new every time I cleaned it. Stuff is rock solid!

Thanks for the video! I just put an anti-slip porcelain tile down on my new bathroom floors. Will that present a problem in terms of the epoxy grout sticking to the surface?

I’m using a smooth white glazed tile in my shower and plan on using epoxy grout..everything I read about grout release is mixed answers. Some say use it and some say it’s only needed on matte/rough tile. What is your suggestion?

I did a tub surround for a customer and she asked me if she could watch because she was going to help her friend do a tub surround at her cabin. I said sure I would be glad to. She helped with some simple cuts and actually made a "L" cut in a tile for the soap dish. The next day when I was grouting she says, oh that looks easy. So I handed her the float and let her go to it. She says, wow this is harder than it looks. I said go ahead and grout the entire tub and I will show you how to wash it down. She was struggling but she asked for it. I made sure she packed the grout into the joints. When it was time to wash it down I showed her on one side wall and gave her the sponge to finish. You know the labor sheet where it says if you help it costs double, well I didn't give her that one. I think she more than paid for the lesson. I told her to call me if she had questions on her friends job.

Thanks for the extremely helpful video! I'm curious what your thoughts are on Spectralock 1 premixed grout. Do you think it has the same stain resistance necessary for a lighter colored grout? I'm doing my own shower with a lighter tile and like the idea of a premixed grout but want the grout to be resistant to stains like an epoxy. Thanks!

So yeah, I’ve really liked what I’ve seen so far with the sprctralock1. But honestly haven’t done much with the lighter colors. Think I’ve done 3-4 bathrooms with the silver shadow. I think the fine consistency should allow it to hold up. But only time will tell. I was surprised that laticrete named it the same as their original epoxy. They must feel it’s just as good 👍

Steve, really enjoy your videos....epoxy grout with marble tile? Also do you seal your grout/tiles. If not would you for marble?

Yeah, epoxy works fine for that. No one (manufactures) really wants to guarantee that it will not scratch the surface. But in my experience it’s been fine. Highly polished marble can be tricky to tell if it’ll scratch or reduce the polish. But water ever you go with, yes, you want to seal it. I’d recommend Mapei SB sealer. Or Auqua mix. So clear windex for even a color match silicone and not just white? What’s the soap & water mix method I see others use?

For any caulking. And soap water mix works too. I personally have enough things in my trailer. Windex with vinegar being one of them, so I just use that 👍

Did you get special rounded tiles for where the wall meets the drywall or is that a edge band you put in?

I don't plan to use white grout for my walls. Probably a darker grey; 1/16" grout lines (maybe 1/8 not sure yet). Would you still recommend epoxy grout? Also what about 2" hex mosaic on the shower floor? Epoxy? Sanded or unsanded? As always, thank you!

I am a huge fan of epoxy, but for darker colors it doesn't really matter. I think the urethane type spectra lock would be great for that. Spectra lock1. amzn.to/3BFTR2f. Same for shower floor. One additional thing I didn't mention about epoxy, its pretty much an adhesive too. So for the small thin mosaic glass pieces, like in this shower, it was another benefit. But for 2" hex it wouldn't benefit as much. The spectralock1 is a bit more forgiving since you can always touch up later, but epoxy you need to mix a whole new batch 👍

Getting ready to use epoxy grout for the first time. Once thing I noticed in a couple of your videos, you didn't use the included cleaning packets Laticrete provides. Any particular reason? I know white vinegar can be used instead of their cleaning packets. Thanks!

Good observation 👍 I forget most times to use it 😆 but honestly, I’ve never seen a difference in clean up. If you use that microfiber cloth, you’ll be in good shape 👍

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher Just finished using the Laticrete epoxy grout in our basement after watching your videos and it was incredibly easy! I actually liked using it better than regular grout. I will say the windex with vinegar really got to me. So for the rest of my basement I used the “final wash” solution, white scrubby pad and wiped with a microfiber and it worked great. Just another way in case the windex smell makes you sick! Thanks again fir the great videos!

Wouldn’t it be faster if you use some kind of bag with a tip and apply the grout directly inside the joints by squeezing the bag. Than pack everything in with float. That way you don’t have to try so hard to fill between the joints. Nobody does it this way?

With epoxy, not much harder. Other premixes…yes. Hard to control water with the premix. Epoxy you can use as much water as needed to remove 👍

Holy hell, I just installed one wall of this stuff and it's way harder to install than you make it seem. Whatre your secrets? I'd put a little on the float and when trying to spread it, it's just clump up and fall off the wall. I have a epoxy float, but maybe not a good enough one?

Yeah no doubt it can be stiff. Be sure to squeeze out ever bit of part a and b. I do a lot of it, so it looks easy, but it really isn’t… running a damp sponge over tiles helps allow it to glide over. These troxell floats are the best 👍 amzn.to/3VQfTcV

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher thank you! Watching your video back, your Grout seemed to smear across the tile, when I'd push mine, it'd just clump up and fall off the tile. So frustrating! I'm thinking of keeping back 10% of the part C like the instructions say to do for thin joist, even though my joints are 1/8". I'm a little worried it won't match the color though, since I got 3/4 of one wall done already..

I think the temperature makes a big difference too. If it's warm, the chemical reaction happens faster. I did a surround at 90+ degrees when I was building my house. It was traumatic, but after 20 years and 5 kids all using that shower, it's basically like new. Bulletproof. I did redo the silicon calk between the tub and tiles once.

It looks like you grouted into the crack between the tub and the tiles, is that correct? Then I see you caulked over the top of it.

@@BathroomRemodelingTeacher Okay, well I didn't think it was a good idea. But I wondered since I can clearly see the crack where the walls meet, but where the tub meets the tile, it looks filled in and if you said something about it, I missed it. I will assume you did not grout there (:

Unfortunately, yes. Huge disappointment. Always get things in writing if you ever decide to have a business partner! Doing everything will force me to get better at teaching though, 😆.
