He was a great musician and had a wonderful personality and it shows in his music. In the 70's I learned to play the sax by listening to his music and playing along and in 2023 I'm still learning and appreciating his work
I like this album, because Grover can and does Scat on it. I cannot remember that does it on but this is my favorite album. I used to have all of his music, not anymore at this time,he was a great Musician!
@@KSJ91 for sure it was recorded live but when Grover says, at the opening of Mr. Magic, "Before we leave you, etc... and then does the band intro and ends with "Love you", all that makes me think considering to that Mr. Magic was his 1975 meg-hit... any thoughts?
Dr. Gibbs just put my ears into Funk Mode 28:00 - 29:10.🔥🔥🔥 Still rocking this in 2023. Thank you Grover Washington Jr for timeless Classic Rest Easy!🙏🏾
dont know if anyone gives a damn but if you are bored like me during the covid times you can stream all the latest movies on instaflixxer. Been watching with my brother recently xD
I was in Jazz Band when this album came out. Tenor player. Changed everything for me and probably for other band mates too. Allowed us to stretch out musically from where we were in those days.
I made a recording of the Vinyl in 1993, then converted it into mp3's and have played those mp3's eversince. Today is the first time I even considered to open up YT to look the album up....
On the Saturday after Christmas in 1977, I trekked across two miles of North Omaha in minus-15-degree windy weather through newly-fallen snow to Mystical Sounds Record Store ("Our aim is to please your musical needs"), and bought this album at the behest of Leola, the proprietor. I wore it out in the subsequent years. Hoomeyow!!
Gone way too soon.😢 I saw Grover with my dad in Cleveland in 1978. When concert tickets cost $10. His music never gets old. Every time I hear it brings tears to my eyes😊
AWESOME! ONE OF THE ALL-TIME LIVE! RECORDINGS EVER! TOP 5! REST IN PERFECT PEACE! GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN! MUSIC TOO! THIS IS A FOREVER CLASSIC AND THE GREATEST HITS!
WOW. We use to have the time at the Bijou on Lombard Street. The first time I saw Denise William was there. No matter how many people showed up, they found space for you. I miss venues like that.
My introduction to Grover was a near midnight ride to Lake Charles LA. My buddy and I said wow😮😮while Mr. Magic was playing. We were hooked. A wonderful person and musician. I screamed while I saw the newspaper headline @ 430 that he was gone😢😢.
I wore out my cassette I played this so much. I love everything about this album, especially the flute solos and the Hohner Clavinet and ARP Omni string synthesizer (as well as what sounds like an ARP Odyssey synth).
0:00 On The Cusp 6:20 You Make Me Dance 12:25 Lock It In The Pocket 19:35 Days In Our Lives / Mr. Magic 40:05 Summer Song 47:45 Juffure 57:25 Sausalito 1:07:40 Funkfoot This was originally released as a four_disc_LP album
With all due respect, I purchased this at 17 as a two-LP album. I think you meant that there were four sides of magical music. I was in high school band--worked the hell out of my soprano sax (smile).
I think I bought this at the same time I bought Herbie Hancock's "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" cassette, of which I wore both out! Couldn't get enought of the song "Trust Me" by Herbie!
Mr Art Padmore the host of Music for Moderns on ELBC in Monrovia, Liberia would infrequently include Live At the Bijou in his programming segment. Days In Our Lives was the tune he would play frequently. Leslie Burrs on flute was actually the featured soloist on that tune.
I grew up in Parkhill Denver Colorado home of more than half of Earth Wind and Fire ....no match for Gover LATB...if you wanted to play in a neighborhood band you had to know your part to every song on this album.
This four disc album marked a transition stylistically for Mr. Washington. It was no less funky but this excellent live set announced some of the opening notes of a genre that would be called smooth jazz by radio programmers. Some of the more noteworthy tunes that take that direction are Summer Song and Days In Our Lives. The new style would spawn many exponents - particularly on soprano, alto and tenor saxophones.
How do you down thumb this? look if jazz ain't your gig , your ears haven't opened up yet. or ill respect your taste that it's different than mine but if you do like jazz and you down thmb this now that is a cardinal sin, GROVER COOKS BETTER THAN ANY CHEF BOYARDEE HAHA!!!
