and give them some fresh soil, and a bigger container, if needed. Right now they are blooming. One of them with eight flowers, on my terrace, standing in the blazing sun. Thats their nature, where they come from.

I’m from Southern California and I so remember seeing these beautiful bulbs in local parks. When I lived there, I used to have Naked Ladies growing in my front yard, and they grew just like you said-leaves up first, then die back. A stalk comes up and a beautiful flower; all stuck in the ground. I’ve tried to replicate this in Northeastern Pennsylvania in my home, after buying three of them. I will try to grow these based on your tips.

Thank you so much for this well explained video on their care. Do you ever cut back the leaves at any point?
@SusansInTheGarden
@SusansInTheGarden 3 года назад
Hi, Julie. No, I never do. I figure the larger they are the more they can conduct photosynthesis. And besides, the leaves are so gorgeous!

Wow! You do not pull them out for dormancy? How wonderful :)

No, this method has worked really well for us and it's really simple.

I gave the red and white one. I live in Florida and I have them 8n a pot on my screened in porch. The leaves got so heavy they were snapping and cracking at the base so I cut them back down to the bulb. I have a small on growing off of the side of the bulb and I'm not sure what to do. So I have a big bulb with no leaves now and a small one growing on the side. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to leave them on the porch or take the little one off. Please help!!! Thank you and God Bless, Cheryl

Hi there. I would remove them from the pot and carefully separate the 2 bulbs. Then repot each in their own pot. Hopefully the big bulb will start growing leaves since they need them in order to conduct photosynthesis so they can grow and bloom.

Beautiful blooms! Where did you get them?
@SusansInTheGarden
@SusansInTheGarden 3 года назад
Hi, Susan. Most of them are from Gardener's Supply. They have a lot of gorgeous, specialty bulbs. But some are from garden centers or grocery stores.

@@SusansInTheGarden thanks. I just picked up 5 more from Home Depot. The selection is quite limited. Next year I'll start earlier and try GS. Longfield has some beauties too. Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much . I've always thrown them away in the past. I'm excited to know they rebloom. Do you cut any of the bloom stocks after they are done blooming or just remove the spent flowers? Thanks again, you're a great teacher.

Hi, Allison. I just realized that I didn't mention that! Whoops. Yes, once a flower stalk has completely finished blooming, I clip off the whole stalk.

I guess I have a naked lady. An earlier bloomer with 3 stems bloomed and fell over. I should have realized it needed staking, as it was quite tall. There is hope yet for a bulb saved from last year that only has leaves so far.

It's hard to tell from your description, but here's what naked ladies look like: www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/amaryllis-belladonna/growing-amaryllis-lilies.htm.

Thank you for your sending link to true" naked ladies". I don't have one after all, just a flower first and a teeny, tiny top of a leaf starting. You saved me from telling everyone I had a "naked lady" in my livingroom!

Thank you so much 😊. I love your videos. I purchased three of the wax bulbs before Christmas. They bloom so beautiful. I’m trimming of the wax and old bloom stalks now and planting them in soil. Blessings to you 🙏🏾

Hello Susan, i have several amaryllis, but they don´t bloom often, I actually live in south america but they bloom once every 3 months, how do i get them to bloom more often? Thank you
@SusansInTheGarden
@SusansInTheGarden 3 года назад
Hi, Angela. I'm assuming your amaryllis are growing out in your garden? I'm afraid I have no experience with that, other than to suggest you give them a fertilizer high in phosphorus every now and then. Phosphorus is the middle number on packages of fertilizer and it promotes blooming.
@paraangela
@paraangela 3 года назад
Thank you for your advice. Indeed my amaryllis are outside (in planters). All this time i thuth it was potassium that made them bloom 🤦‍♀️. Have you posted any videos about fertilizing?
@SusansInTheGarden
@SusansInTheGarden 3 года назад
@@paraangela None that are specifically on fertilizing. Sorry!
