I wish I could garden dressed like you, but not here in Costa Rica... I love everything about your videos. You deserve 100x as many viewers. This channel reminds me of the PBS shows I used to watch with my grandparents. And I mean that in the absolute best way possible. Thanks for continuing and I can’t wait for the next one. I’ve got garlic, beets, radishes, and carrots in my first hugelkultur bed so it is good to see I’m not the only one trying these pairings together.

I just LOVED your channel, coming from a photography background (professional) and JUST getting my feet wet in video making (recreational), I am grateful for both, your teachings and the quality that you present this info, while I watch the video, I can't stop to wonder about where your camera (s) is placed, maybe you went back later and shot some broll.. That is a wonderful suggestion. It would be lovely to see a garden to table book with so many of the vegetables we grow here. I tried growing large pale green summer squash after watching your video/ sandwich. The seeds said superior flavor and texture but wow! What an understatement! Exquisite! And the plants survived or record-breaking 47+°c / 117+F day too! So thank you for encouraging me to try something new, utterly delicious and so unexpectedly robust in our sometimes extremely hot climate!

Yes, they tolerate light frost, but I deep freezes may not be good for them. A cold frame becomes a perfect environment for them.

This will be my second season for growing. Last year my beets competed with tough soil. I did a lot of on the spot compost to over winter. Hopefully I'll get nice round instead of long skinny and little.lol. I love all the videos. Did you change a lot in your garden. I see more defined spaces and not so much rural area. It looks very nice.

There has been changes, but more changes will be shown in future videos :-) Also I think your on the spot composting will help make your soil better. Sometimes I forget that I've been working my soil for about 10 years and that it is not so common for people to have soil with good structure.

Oh, I thought those teepee structures were ornamental trellises, I didn't see the mesh at the bottom. How clever! I just may try that myself this year. I have a groundhog who eats everything except chard for some reason! The critter completely defoliate my beans and peppers last year.

I find that it works, but you need to put your slower and lower plants on the outside, and depending on where you live will help you decide which side of the bed to put them on. Where I live I would put the beets on the outside, and my beds run north - south, so the beets would go on the west side. If it is very hot where you live, you may want them on the east side, since the heat will slow the growth of some veg.

Thanks for the beautiful video. It's just started snowing but my asparagus seeds are coming up under my indoor lights. Like it or not, I've got to create a cold frame or low tunnel because there's no way I have room for them inside in a month or so. This is a taste of the season to come!

Leave a couple of radishes that go to seed the seed pods delicious to snack on while in the garden. I collect them when they are young and serve them as snack with beer or wine. They are a little spicy and crunchy with a rust of flavor.

I don't have groundhogs, but the birds just really love beet seedlings! So, I do like Charles Dowding, and transplant seedlings.They grow well for awhile if I can keep the birds off, but I still have not had any great beets,.I have been trying all year! I have the same issue with carrots, I think it's my heavy clay soil.

We have heavy clay as well, and until a few years pass and it improves, we finally decided to grow carrots and beets in pots. Much better. Try it :)

You're right - clear plastic or glass warms the soil much better than black, which is what lots of people use. Black plastic shades the soil.

I head you mention that the radishes had bolted and so were no longer eatable... made me wonder if you've tried radish pods? The radish will set seed in a pod that if picked young and green, is eatable, much like a pea pod. I've never had the pleasure myself because the goats would always get to them before I could.
