Hello Great Video. I recently propegated 3 new plants from my single Fiddleleaf tree. They are all surviving and thriving. They've grown about 1 ft (its been maybe a little more than 3months). I used your propegation promoter and seems to work really well! 3 out of 4 cuttings made it. My question is at what point should I try to notch the new ones? They are growing straight up and I'd like to have a multi branch look to them. thanks hope you see this.

Great job on your propagation! Notching should be done on more mature trees that have a bark covered trunk. Wait until your plants are mature to attempt notching! Happy Growing!

Hi Claire, A friend gave us a tall, woody flddle leaf a few years ago. I was a little afraid to do anything but water it until I started watching your videos. I cut a branch off that was leaning and put in a jar with water, roots started growing within a few weeks. All I did was change the water whenever it became cloudy and more roots began growing. I left it in the jar of water propped up in the pot containing the parent plant, it actually made the main plant look much better, giving the illusion of fullness. Yesterday, feeling brave after watching your video on probagating, I planted the branch in a pot, dusting the roots with rooting hormone. It stands about two feet tall but it's a little lopsided with more leaves on one side. When will I be able to notch the main branch without damaging it ? I love your videos! Thanks

That is great! Sounds like you have a very happy healthy plant! You would be fine to try notching to create a more symmetrical look! Go for it and try 3-5 notches to ensure one is successful. For more support, please join and post inside our helpful community! fiddleleaffigplant.com/community

Hi Clair, i potted my 4ft FLF and ZZ plant together in a same opt with well drainage. Do they sustain together? Your suggestion helps my plant a lot to keep them happy. Thanks in advance
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 7 месяцев назад
If they are happy together in the same pot they should be okay to continue growing together. Watch the fiddle leaf fig to see that it is getting the right light, water, and nutrients. If you find one of the plants is not looking so well, it may be time to considering repotting into their own individual pots. Happy Growing!

Hi Claire I have a fiddle leaf that went through some shock from replanting and unfortunately I had to do a chop. I didn’t go low enough so now I just have a skinny trunk. Can I send you a pic and have you give me some advice 😊
@kerryreynard4894

I've yet to have success from my notching attempts. Another 'expert' insists one MUST pinch off the apical leaf(ves) in order to force the growth hormone done the stem. What are your thoughts? Would not that stop tha t existing branch from continuing to grow?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Месяц назад
You're correct. Pinching will allow more branches to grow, but it is similar to pruning in the sense that the branch will no longer continue to grow, but the branches that form will. Notching is different in the sense that the main plant continues to grow, the injury done by notching disrupts the flow of dormant leaf buds and branches form just below where you make the notches. Hope this helps!

Hi Claire- I have some clippings I did for propagation and it’s been over a month now, I have no roots, I have changed the water for all of them about 4 times now as I keep getting green stuff in the water. Some have lost leaves some have not. I have some in the from window with morning light and some outside in that same light and some in the front with afternoon light to test which ones grow roots quicker. So far I’ve had each place have some clippings lose all leaves and some have leaves still, they all however keep getting the green sluge. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!! Ty in advance.

Keep refreshing the water and used distilled inside a sterilized container. If the water gets murky, change it out. It can take 6+ weeks for roots to form but keep going! Happy Growing!

If you will add a few drops of Super Thrive to the water it will help create new roots. It is a vital supplement that works to create roots.

Hii! Just came across your video and I love it!! I have a fiddle leaf and it’s huge! I got it from costco but I never noticed it putting out new leaves, it’s pretty bushy as it is, it only dropped one leaf over the year but she either doesn’t ever put new growth or it’s so minimal i don’t notice it. I repotted and upsized by 2 inches, i use fertilizer, i mist the leaves, and i water it twice a week with huge gallons bcs the soil dries out so much, and gets a ton of light. What am i missing? She seems happy but i want new leaves😭
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 6 месяцев назад
It sounds like you have a really happy plant! Congrats! If you recently repotted and it is in a larger pot, it will spend time growing the root system to accommodate the larger sized pot. Once it has established the larger root system, the plant will push out new branches and growth! Another way to help it along is to make sure it is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. Even when they are pulled back 1 foot or more from a window, it is not enough light for them to thrive. Happy Growing!

I suggest you use a fertilizer called Dyna Gro - Foliage Pro. It has 12+ vitamins in it that other fertilizers don’t have. You use it each time you water it. I assure you it will produce new growth right away.

This was a good video, Claire! Do you recommend making one cut, or two to make a "V" and remove the little piece?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 9 месяцев назад
Great question! I would make two cuts to create a 'notched' area of the trunk. Once you remove the piece and see sap coming out, the injury should be deep enough to disrupt the flow of the dormant leaf buds and create new branches just below the notch.
@Mlspky
@Mlspky 3 месяца назад
She did not mention the fact that you need to cut the Apical bud off end of main stem when you notch. This will release the Auxin hormone to flow back down the stem to activate the dormant nodes where you just notched. Failure to remove the Apical bud is reason for so many notching failures.
@RebeccaWhite30
@RebeccaWhite30 9 месяцев назад
Do they spontaneously branch?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 9 месяцев назад
They can if the conditions are right! Or sometimes the plant will have a small injury from being bumped and that will spur new branch growth. Notching is one way to create new branches in the spots that are bare!

how can I make sure my fiddle leaf's "trunk" is thick enough to support more branches?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 9 месяцев назад
If you have a woody, bark covered trunk, that will help when it comes to notching. To create a straighter, thicker, and stronger trunk, I recommend gently 'wiggling' the tree regularly. Happy growing!
@Mlspky
@Mlspky 3 месяца назад
To help grow a thicker stem so you can notch it, you need to give it calcium and potassium. These two ingredients will help grow a thicker stem.

Hi Claire , what do you advise I do for my fifi ? She’s a bush more than a tree but with two main stems and a few thin stems . As the big leaves have dropped and all new growth is small I’m left with just a few big leaves. The only think I think I do wrong is under watering as I’m nervous of root rot . She’s also in a south facing window. Right now it’s winter in the uk but what should I do come spring to rejuvenate her please? Please help 🙏
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 8 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question! Sounds like she may be underwatered. When the top inches of soil are dry, ensure to water thoroughly. Water until it drains well out the bottom and remove any excess that collects. If you don't think it is getting enough light sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window, a grow light can see her through to the spring warmer months. Happy Growing!
