Hello Great Video. I recently propegated 3 new plants from my single Fiddleleaf tree. They are all surviving and thriving. They've grown about 1 ft (its been maybe a little more than 3months). I used your propegation promoter and seems to work really well! 3 out of 4 cuttings made it. My question is at what point should I try to notch the new ones? They are growing straight up and I'd like to have a multi branch look to them. thanks hope you see this.
Great job on your propagation! Notching should be done on more mature trees that have a bark covered trunk. Wait until your plants are mature to attempt notching! Happy Growing!
send me some drops claire! im broke LOL. i have 3 fiddles i found in the trash and i have watched many of your videos to help bring them back to life. All are about 6 ft tall, i just cant afford all the other bells and whistles so my figs get rain water and all my attention lol
thank you! i'm having the issue where the new leaves are unfurling with with holes because of sticking. It's only on the branch that faces (is liking to grow towards) the west facing window, and only during the few weeks where we actually use our air conditioner when the normally temperate coastal climate shifts into fire season. (Ventura County). I'll put a little mister by this grouping of plants, and I'll mist the new buds. And rotate the plant more often so different branches get to share the joy and intensity of the sun at that window.
In order to activate those dormant buds where you have notched, you need to to cut off the Apical bud at end of stem. It will send the growth hormone, Auxin down the stem that will stimulate the dormant buds where you just notched. Without cutting the Apical bud this is why notching is normally 50% ineffective. I recently brought back to life my granddaughter dead looking FLF. The stems were completely bare. I clipped the Apical bud and notched down the stems. Within two weeks it had gotten new growth.
Sadly, I did have one relatively mature fiddle leaf that got severely sunburned inside. It was the seering summer sun last year. I moved it to indirect sun and it's grown about 3 feet since last year. Now I'm trying to figure out the most aesthetic approach to trimming off the brownish lower leaves.....
One of my very first propagations I think took me maybe 4+ months and I almost gave up on it and then one day it had roots, now it’s a huge plant and I have had multiple clipping off of it and have gifted maybe other plants to others, I love doing this and Claire, she’s the best to watch for tips and tricks, I refer this page to anyone I know who has these plants!!! Ty again for all your help!!!
I'm house sitting and the fig tree started with curling leaves. I watered a little more to the right moisture level 4 inches deep. Now I see some small holes I believe to be insects but am also seeing one less that has a yellowish spot that I think may be sunburn. I'm also now seeing some splitting of leaves and holes along some of the edges of leaves. Not sure what to do first! This tree is inside and too large to pick up or move. About 8 foot tall.
It might be dry in the air. Not to worry, I recommend watering when the top inches of soil are dry and ensuring all of the soil gets wet and drains really well out the bottom drainage holes. The holes can be caused by the leaves sticking to themselves as they unfurl due to low humidity / dry air. Running a small humidifier nearby can help. Sunburn can cause a rust color spot that can lighten over time. For more support, you are welcome to join and post inside our helpful fiddle leaf fig community! Fiddleleaffigplant.com/community
Newer leaves that are smaller than older leaves can mean a couple of different things. Lower light, or nutrients can cause the newer leaves to not grow as large. Check your light source and if you have had the soil in the pot for over 1-2 years, it may need a refresh. The plant uses the nutrients and minerals from the soil within the first 1-2 years. After that, it needs to be refreshed and adding in a certified 3-1-2 NPK plant food can also help! Happy Growing!
This is beautiful!!! Is this your backyard? If so would you be willing to do a tour of all your plants? We’re almost done with our pool and I’m looking for inspiration!!!!
If the part you notched too deep is hanging off, it sounds like you accidentally pruned your plant. You can take the cutting and propagate it into a new plant and new branches will form just below where the pruned cut happened. Otherwise, if the part above the notch is still standing and not tipping over, leave the plant be as it is and branches may come out just below the point where you notched. Happy Growing!
@@FiddleLeafFigPlant You've given me the confidence to finally attempt a cutting propagation! And I know what shape they're meant to be, properly tree shaped! That's changed EVERYTHING! 👍😅
I watched this video awhile back and did the notching on my fiddle leaf. I'm so grateful for this video and the help you are giving us all. I can gladly say it worked and I got a couple of new leaves coming out 😁
Hi Claire- I have some clippings I did for propagation and it’s been over a month now, I have no roots, I have changed the water for all of them about 4 times now as I keep getting green stuff in the water. Some have lost leaves some have not. I have some in the from window with morning light and some outside in that same light and some in the front with afternoon light to test which ones grow roots quicker. So far I’ve had each place have some clippings lose all leaves and some have leaves still, they all however keep getting the green sluge. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!! Ty in advance.
Keep refreshing the water and used distilled inside a sterilized container. If the water gets murky, change it out. It can take 6+ weeks for roots to form but keep going! Happy Growing!
The general guideline is about 1 cup per foot of your plant. Another method is to fully soak the soil until it runs out the bottom of your pot and water again when the top inches of soil are dry. Happy Growing!
My FLF lost the lower leafs and now looks like a tree, can I notch at the lowest part of the stem close to the soil so that I starts growing from there? Or is this just for the upper part of the plant
It's ok to propagate in water with the hormone powder, The other option is to root in soil. This method is fine, but you just can't see the root growth progression. Happy Growing!
