Grow Petrea Volubilis in Containers Successfully, With 1 Year Updates
Hello everyone, In this video, I have tried to cover my 1-year journey of growing the Petrea Volubilis Plant or otherwise known as Sandpaper vine in containers along with a 1-year update growing this plant on my terrace garden.

Scientific Name: Petrea Volubilis
Other Names: Queen's Wreath, Purple Wreath, Sandpaper Vine, and Nilmani
Family: Verbenas
Sunlight Requirements - It needs sunlight of at least 5 hours a day, however, it can survive in partial shade conditions too. But don't expect it to bloom well in partial-shaded conditions.
Watering - Petrea Volubilis vine can bear drought conditions to some extent but it is always better to water the plant when the soil becomes hard and dry.
Fertilizers - The vine requires to be fertilized well once a month, particularly in the summer and spring seasons. It becomes dormant in winters, so it's better not to fertilize it in its resting period.

You should try crepe/crape jasmine! It looks similar to gardenia but it’s easier to care for

Thanks for your very informative videos! looking forward for more 😉 going to place my Petrea volubilis on sunnier location. I have mine in part sun and part shade. It had some blooms but not quite as many as yours.

What pot size did you choose for potting on first time ??

I am sorry, I really don't know the exact pot size. But I guess this one might be around 14 inch in size.

1) do we keep it in full sun all day 2) i repotted my nursery plant to a 14inch pot . But it doesn’t seem to grow. I did add mustard and bonemeal some time back but no luck. Do i add dap?

Everything sounds good here! If your plant seems healthy and stands strong with all the green leaves on it then there's nothing to worry about. It will begin to grow once it has established its roots well inside the new container 💜

Yes, Full sun is preferred, but when the temperature becomes very high, try to provide some shade.

These symptoms may indicate that your plant is not receiving enough water or is being watered infrequently. Ensure that you water the plant on schedule. Additionally, if only the old leaves are turning brown, there's no need to worry, but if the new leaves/younger leaves are browning, then it is a matter of concern!

Hi, well, there can be one of the following reasons behind the small size of the leaves on your petrea volubilis plant: 1.Either your plant has been growing in a small container for long, 2.Or your plant might be facing some nutrients deficiency, 3.Or the environmental changes can be a cause for this. You need to observe precisely, and then figure out, which reason holds the best in your case.

Is this plant continuously flowering once it bloomed?or there are dormant months?

It only blooms once in the spring months and yes this plant goes into its dormant stage in winters. Hope that helps!

No no I had to shift my Petrea few weeks back to larger container. I have covered a video on it as well, you can checkout here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_sH6I_XY61Q.html I had to shift it because I wanted it to grow it more further in the term of foliage but that wasn't necessary at all as this plant could survive 2 to 3 more years (Maximum) in the same container if taken good care of it in the terms of fertilizing.

@@ParthMayn yes, I watched that link video..& I’m now more hopeful, I can see my petrea will also bloom like yours since I only have to choose plantings in a container due to limited space here..if ever I will maintain this for a certain height, will it still give generous flowers?

Oh yes definitely, If you don't like to grow it as a vine or a climber then you can shape your Petrea like a Tree, in that way it would be easier for you to handle it and care for it😃

is 10 inch pot enough for this plant?

Yes, for the initial planting you can give petrea 10 inch pot, but make sure once it establish its roots in that 10 inch pot, you can repot it to its final container which should be atleast 14 to 16 inches of pot which will allow the petrea to grow to its fullest... I hope that helps!
