This was released 5 years ago and still is solid. That's why I like this channel. No shoving the latest products or tools in our face, just tried and true advice...
Totally agree, One of the best channels on You tube! Great Video. I'm so glad you pointed out the signs to catching thinning edges quickly. Because and this is just my observation that at first thinning edges don't cause Alarm. Because even though we have went Natural many of us still have an attraction to smooth or slick edges. And when edges first start to thin it makes them easier to slick down and unfortunately this cause Happiness at first and even worse More Compliments from other naturals on how slick their edges are! O.o?? I know but you see it time after time and it's not till a year later and THEN their edges are Really Thin and they start doing Castor oil or something. But they Totally MISSED that year (or more) window because it was mistaken as a sign of Beauty & Accomplishment INSTEAD of the Red Flag it should have been. So I'm so glad Your video pointed out the signs for catching it Early and Seeing it for what it is: A sign that something is WRONG!
I am starting to believe that the reason why my edges keep thinning and my hair not growing is because of the black hair salons I go to. In South Africa, there aren't many hair salons that cater to natural hair(I only know of two and there are too far away + they're quite expensive - I'm a student so I can't afford going there). The salons I go to or that are around me LOOVE using heat on my hair and using rat tail combs which really damages my hair as my hair is already natural dry and brittle. Almost the entire floor of the salon would be covered with my hair. They also pull and tug at my hair and when I tell them to put less tension, they don't listen and they make it seem as if I whine a lot. I think I'm just going to stop going to hair salons and learn how to braid my own hair.
I had this exact same problem😒So I started studying hair and learning my own. Started braiding my own hair too. Because I don't have a hair dryer I can't really steam my hair while I deep condition so once in a while I'll visit the salon🙅♀️ I do however carry my own products and combs lmao and I let the stylists know when they're doing too much. I've experienced heat damage on two different occasions at the salon 😭 So trust me when I say that I am veeeery sceptical when it comes to paying visits to any salon. For the most part I'm doing my own hair. It's better that way. I trust only my hands😅
Hi everyone - as it says in the video check your face creams and choices based on real information not hype. I have been using skin serums containing EGF (epidermal growth factors) for the last 3 months. I noticed changes to my hairline. I did some research and found out that EGF is actually also an effective depilatory agent, popular among sheep farmers as an effective way to strip wool from the hides of their animals. Eyebrows and hairlines are not a fan of it. What's more the jury's out as to how effective it is as an ingredient to help the skin. Do your research, make informed choices.
No heavy products on edges? That directly clashes with me hearibg that putting castor oil on my edges will grow them. I'll keep watching to see what I need to do. Thanks so much for all your informative videos!
SMH - You schooled me once again. I was placing heavy butters on my edges as a preventative measure to PROTECT my edges... and, low and behold, that can actually lead to breakage. 💥 MIND BLOWN 💥 Thank you Lovely Lady!
You are perfect if you listen to this this is a Hair Bible! This is master education y'all. ! I'm a Lic Cosmetologist She speaks no. Lies.. I'm so proud of you! My sister.
Thank you so much for this video! I noticed I was losing a lot of hair early fall last year. I wasn't sure why until I realized it was because I wore tight ponytails almost everyday for a year the year before ( i wasn't very good at taking care of my hair then). It's been about 6 months since then and I've noticed a lot less hair fall! :D
Yeah this is a little weird for me because I usually NEVER bald around my edges but doing tight pony tails and putting my braids into tight buns has changed my hairline and I’m glad I caught it early. Thank you!
I am so sad, i have traction Alopecia. When i was a kid my mom would do my hair in really tight braids, it was really bad i couldn't even hold my head straight up. In school for the first few days i would have to go to the nurses office because the pain was to much. i remember the principal asking me why my mom braided so tight and this went on for years until i was about 16. I also had a really bad habit of scratching my edges for flakes of dandruffs. I would sit at the kitchen table with a blank sheet of paper and just scratch, i really liked seeing it as weird as that sounds but i was just a stupid kid. I'm now in my early 20's and i just noticed i had two ball spots on both temples, despite just noticing them a year ago i pretty sure they were always there. When i first started to notice them i begin putting Jbco and peppermint oil on them everyday, even then i didn't know how serious it was. A year later and i still don't notice a difference. Is it to late for me?
belledamebebe Same here, its makes my forehead appear even bigger. When i can afford it i will be getting Follicular unit transplantation (FUT). A hair transplant because nothing else seems to be working. Look it up when you get a chance.
Are you patenting your tutorials because you are providing information to us that people pay for daily, and you are thorough, efficient, informative, and on point? We don't need nobody on RU-vid LYING about information they found (stole) that cost this much, and we find out later that it was yours all along! 😒
I’ve been shaving my nap area for years, that area is strong never giving my problems. However, if I look at my edges I’ll lose 25 hairs. I’ve used eyelash serum to restore any baldness in the past. They’re still thin though.
My lanugo persisted for a long time around the front of my hairline crowning my face (into my young adult years). I remember once a hair dresser said to me that I would be bald. I did not pay her any mind because she did not ask whether my hair was thinning out or whether this was just how my hair was. Years later I have not suffered loss of edges except for indentation on the high sides which is genetic as all my other siblings and parents do experienced the same thing.
Great video. I don't have thinning edges, but I do have breakage in very small areas all over my head. I'm not sure what's causing it. Any suggestion on how to combat this probelm?
When doing twists I braid the front hair in the direction of the front I don’t know if that makes sense but this helped with the tensions and I don’t pull on my edges
Hello Green Beauty, love all your videos. I'm thinking of taking msm vitamins due to my excessive hair shedding. Do you think this will have any effect at all? I value your opinion. Thanks
i work with a lot of women who are losing their edges. i know hair is a sensitive issue in general - is there a way to appropriately express my concern? or do i just mind my own business?
Everyone has different temperaments and some people may find it offensive so, you may have to feel them out to see if they are emotionally ready to talk about something like that. If they are ready you can refer them to this video so they can take action sooner rather than later. Good Luck !
Hi, I had eczema and it removed a lot of my edges. I have read mixed opinions about growing hair back where eczema once existed. Some say hair grows back, some says it does, but takes even longer. I wondered what your opinion about eczema in the hair. Also I do not know if my edges are thinning or if my hair is just really fine.
I know exactly what you mean. My edges also came out due to my eczema inflaming my skin. You need to see the dermatologist and get medicine to stop the inflam. that is the only way to get your hair to grow back in that area. Then use moisturizing products oil if you want and massage the area. The doctor also has some anti inflammatory cream for the scalp that could also help grow your hair back. That's what working for me hopefully this will help you.
Hmmm I would update this video. Some people's edges may naturally look thin or fine due to hair density on the edges and width of strands. The stages leading to traction alopecia may look different with those factors included.
Hi Green Beauty, I believe my thin edges came from the way my hair was styled as a child-it was pulled in two tight ponytails. Fast-forward-I am now in my 50s. I believe I am in the mid range. Of course I no longer wear that style at this age ☺️. I am sure aging is also a factor?. I only twist my hair on wash days, and I try to let it dry naturally. Without twisting my hair would dry and be in a shrunken state. I usually take it out the next morning and wear it either loose or in a messy loose bun. Is this too much twisting, even though it’s only once a week on wash day? If yes, do you have any suggestions for how I can wear it? I sometimes do wash and gos, but even with those I usually have to band it overnight to stretch it. I would appreciate any suggestions you have.
I feel like my hair is very tender. Every time I rube or even put it up in a bun, my temples hurts so bad and it's mainly on my temples. It's often hurting when I straighten my hair and it's more fine on that area and I've had not washed I'm a week or more. This could be the problem? I'm not shore, it has also started to thin out😩
Hi GB, you are fantastic on so many levels: smart, knowledgeable, eloquently articulate and very beautiful! I am subscribed to your channel and love your natural “not overly” made up look. However, the white Vaseline looking lipgloss is not a good look at all. Please consider a more natural clear or colored lipstick. Not hating, just advising for a seriously beautiful Black young lady. I am so proud of you and I love love your voice quality, btw. Take care and be blessed in all you do. 🙏🏿
I wish there was a channel like this for men bc I need some help with my hair 😔😔 I seriously want to grow my hair back out but it's thinning on the sides where my temples are and at the top to the back
I had thin edges from getting my hair micro braided but when I went natural they grew back. Then I lost over 50 pounds and a lot of my hair fell out. I've been trying to grow my edges back since then but nothing has been working so far.
I am 14 and I can see my edges are getting thin but I get braids. But my mom makes me get them is there a way that I can reduce this with out not getting braids
Honestly when you lose your edges imo you're screwed. It really does affect your self esteem. My edges were never thick to begin with but I grew up getting perms and applied directly on my naturally thin edges. Then came the era of micro braids which was by far the #1 destroyer of my edges. The reason I say you're screwed. . . me anyway, Is bc I won't wear wigs, don't want my scalp suffocating under a hot cap and I'm not putting glue on my skin, so again that leaves braids and even when I leave my edges out the row of braids behind the the part left out seems to pull on my edges idk how that's even possible. Can't get locks or just wear my hair out natural but I'm so embarrassed about my edges showing I end up hiding everyday under head wraps. They're pretty head wraps but it's too hot for that everyday and I'm sure it's only making it worse bc of sweating, the scalp needs to breathe, plus it's just not how I want to look everyday. It really sucks! Hindsight is 20/20 I would never use perm if I could go back. People with full edges are so blessed for that 🙂
Would you please do a video on how to straight tight curls without damaging them. I have 3b hair and have not straightened it in 2 years. A change would be nice
Damage/thinning like this happens little-by-little be fore you even notice it so, if you want to continue to wear your glasses, reversing the damage will have to happen little-by-little by being mindful super careful over a period of time.
I'm 14 . did my big chop . why? Cause my mum texturize my hair and it became straight. I got stressed . that was my second chop. My edges were thin due to braids. I used black Jamaican castor oil and it came back in about 2 weeks. Also my eyebrows was cutted to thin so I used castor oil and in about 5 days my eyebrows came back fully . :)
Mary Evans Well I did stop wearing them but at certain times like a bad hair day I wear a LOOSE high bun or ponytail. Just saying you know I don't wanna tell you what do to with your own hair but I hate to see peoples hair fall out because of tight styles especially high buns and ponytails
