@4:20 Ketone vs aldehyde metabolism in infants still favours sugar (aldehyde) metabolism. The study suggests that infants metabolise ~2g of ketones per day/kg of body weight, which approximates 1/4-1/2 of their daily energy metabolism. This is probably still a gross over-estimate, considering the high carbohydrate content of breast milk (~7%). The study in question mentions that these rates are not maintained into adulthood, and if they were, would represent a starvation state. It seems that the keto community believes this to suggest that ketones serve some necessary biological function, however, this function does not scale with body weight (i.e. decreases as you grow). If one also refrains from acknowledging the wide range of differences between infant and adolescent/adult nutrition needs, then it may appear that this ketone need is significant; when in reality, all infant needs are 'skewed' towards higher nutrient needs per day/kg of body weight (e.g. protein).
@WhatIveLearned
@WhatIveLearned 5 лет назад
@@AFSamizdat Yes, infants are skewed towards higher nutrient needs per day/kg of body weight as they are rapidly growing. Hence, deriving 25% to 50% of their energy from ketones is very striking. Also consider that newborn's blood glucose is far lower than adults at around 35 mg/dL. If you read on in the Cahill paper, you'll see that people can derive about 66% of energy needs from ketones - A very striking finding considering it before thought the brain must run on glucose. The body can produce its own glucose so you'll never get to 100% of energy needs met via ketones (your RBC's wouldn't be happy either). Then again Cahill did some interesting experiments that showed subjects maintaining normal brain function with incredibly low blood sugar, thanks to beta hydroxybutyrate. The point here is, when the human body and especially the brain are in a very energy and nutrient demanding state i.e. babyhood, ketosis is achieved much more rapidly suggesting ketosis is very important for growth and development - particularly for the brain. You talk about ketogenesis scaling with body weight, but look at the brain. An infant's brain is much more energy demanding than an adult's, and infants much more easily produce ketones.

@@WhatIveLearned But not once did you guys speak about the obvious environmental issues from such an unsustainable diet. We re already waist deep in sh*t, (world overshoot day in 2018 was 1st August!!!), not talking about those obvious issues is kind of irresponsible. Nore did you speak about the different quality of the meat. The meat that 99% of the population eat is full of antibiotics, other medecine and who knows what else... It is something totally different than wild meat. That s an other obvious point on how this diet is totally unsustainable. I still like your channel. Amber O'Hearn is far ahead of others in terms of understanding how the human body interacts with what we eat. She can explain nutrition and how it impacts us both from an evolutionary and biological perspective. She is definitely a very important person to listen to for anyone who wants to get to know what is true and false in this nutritional mess that surrounds us.

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder many years ago and was on some nasty drugs. Depression and manic episodes was par for the course. Then I changed my diet and forced my body to accept normal sleeping patterns. Today it's been 5 years since I've been off the drugs with no bipolar symptoms. My point is that the experts don't understand bipolar and yet they act like they are the authority on it. Why is it so inconceivable for people to accept that even without the official qualifications, this lady might know something the specialist don't? She is a self directed learner, which give her way more credibility than someone who had their parents pay their way through medical school.

Genuine question: how do people who eat and advocate for an all-meat diet view the environmental costs? I understand that some people feel better on all-meat, but it seems strange to me that suddenly you have a ton of people advocating for this fairly extreme diet while the rest of the world is saying that we have to cut down on our meat consumption because it is both polluting our atmosphere, and consuming vast amounts of resources.

It's also the comment i ve left here... It should be the first thing that people think about when promoting such an extreme diet. Extreme for the environment and probably for your health too, unless maybe you hunt your for your wild, high quality, meat yourself. But then again, it s not realistic in our 7,5 billion and growing population. Therefore i can't see this diet other than an egoistic, childish, unsustainable way of living!

Well, consider the environmental costs of planting crops. Clearing land, soil erosion, and the secondary costs of processing the crops, blah blah. In fact, I'm pretty sure planting crops caused a big dustbowl in the US a little while ago. So yeah, raising animals will impact the environment in different ways, positive and negative, like crops do. It's just not as simple as animals bad, plants good.
@98LuckyLuk

Just look at the area you need for growing plants and consider what happens to the soil a few years later. Now think about what a cow needs and how that affects the environment. Here in Germany there used to be a lot more grassland with animals on it. Now it is either forest or monoculture.

There's a modern 'aged/rotten meat' used quite commonly in the modern diet. Fish sauce, which is a main component of Worcestershire sauce. It makes an incredible amount of sense. With our current computational power we can extrapolate non-biased information from thousands and thousands, if not millions of data points in what would have previously taken orders of magnitudes longer. It's very difficult to be biased, or have your information skewed by outliers, with such huge amounts of data being processed. They're not selling you anything, they're just accumulating the facts and letting it be known if our previous notions were flawed or wrongfully persuaded by biased or otherwise incorrect conclusions.

I don’t know you people, but Have you ever thought that maybe doctors want to help you? All I see in the comments section is people talking about doctors are biased because of money and industry. In order to give some medical advice, a lot of research is needed. And I really hate when people with just one particular case begin to claim something. We are not carnivores nor vegetarian, we humans are omnivores. Your body is intelligent, try to eat as healthy as you can, avoid fast foods and everything that is processed and if you’re thirsty just DRINK WATER. Please eat vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs, legumes, dairy (be aware of food allergy or intolerance). And of course pay attention to the portions.

Hi Franco, Disruptions of the bowels occur commonly when people travel from one country to another. This can be due to any number of things, ranging from stress response elicited by disturbing normal sleep patterns, to nutrient/mineral anomalies resultant from eating plants grown in very different climates, to more serious issues to do with infections against which you’ve no immunity. Because of this, standard practice is only to drink bottled water whilst traveling to a new place and to eat well-cooked food, avoiding raw things as much as possible during the trip. If you’re having more severe issues or if your travels keep you in a different country for extended periods of time, it could be beneficial to consult a doctor and discover some strategies that’ll suit your body and specific needs.

I think the biggest challenge is finding and purchasing all the parts of the animal that give us the vitamins we need. Therefore we have to look to vegetables to get the necessary vitamins. Even if they have less bioavailability than animal parts, I think they are better than nothing. I tried carnivore for some time, but without going into details, I felt weird. I felt better when I added back some vegetables. This is no fault of the carnivore diet, but likely more so due to my limited selection of animal parts and limited budget. Until they start stocking brain, etc. at the convenience store, I think I will continue buying vegetables to supplement my meat for now. I’ll continue to test and try again to see what works best for me.

Grains and other vegetable mono crops are fare less ethical and kill wild animals, birds and insects that are considered to be pests. Rats are generally killed using anticoagulants which causes internal haemorrhaging and result in a slow agonising death. Also small rodents, often even deer are horrifically killed under the blades of the harvesting machinery. Climate change is a red herring.

Moon Beats, some studies are showing a link between colon cancer and the OVEREXPOSURE of our intestines to bile salts (they help us to digest fat), and that is why the medical community advice to eat at least 25 grams of fiber per day, because in that way your intestines are moving those substances in a faster way, and of course it helps with your lipid perfil (although there is new facts about the lipids in our body). And about colon cancer as a congenital condition, there is no much anyone can do, because is in the DNA, so it’s a matter of time. But those people develop cancer when they are very young, around 25 years old. So please keep a healthy diet, exercise and assist to your doctor’s appointments. And please, try to see these videos with an open mind, but do not take medical advice from them. Every person in the world is unique, and every disease is different in every person. BTW, I am sorry for the long answer, and you welcome.
