Gotta love Amber O!!! She is a wealth of knowledge on the re-discovery that most humans do best of a diet of fatty meat. I've been Carnivore for 9 months now and feel better than I did 15 years ago! My one month Carnivore Experiment just keeps going, and inspired me to make several videos on the subject.

I've seen them. I appreciated all of your wonderful videos on the ketogenic diet, and hope you continue to inform us on carnivore. I've been on for a few days only and I already notice a difference. I seem to be very metabolically flexible and could get back into ketosis in just a few hours after cheating (depending on the cheat😁)

That's why I think I'm noticing a benefit faster than most stories I've heard. Do you still have dirty water diarrhea shortly after meals tho? Can I expect that to subside or is it kind of permanent?

Great interview! She’s right! In 18 months, I reduced my blood sugar numbers from 154 to 95, I lost 138 pounds on KETO at age 60 and had the most healthiest blood panel in my life. But during the last few months, my weight began to creep back up despite tracking Everything that I ate. Last month I tried the carnivore diet, reducing my carbs to almost zero, within 2-3 days, my body responded, a month later, my blood panels are back to perfect, (for an even younger man), my energy levels are incredible and my osteoarthritis is once again gone. My physician is dumbfounded by my blood panels, my continued weight loss and or stabilization and he is quietly researching the Zero Carb Lifestyle in hope of transferring his findings to diabetic treatment of his other patients. There’s and old saying, “ would you rather listen to a person who’s read a lot of books or to a person of wisdom.” I’ve stopped reading so many, “nutrition” books and started listening to the wisdom of my own body. Thank you both for this video.

O'Hearn is always great, but props to the interviewer for having the patience to let her develop her answers at her own pace instead of trying to micromanage her responses into 20-second soundbites.

...there is something to this...i have had Leukemia since 1976...and im still kicking...cos..a young Dr fresh out of med school had an idea & took a chance on helping me...he said..that genetics do indeed play a big part, like in my case..im Native American..and for millennia my people were voracious carnivores...we ate meat..with every meal..and lots of it...well..Dr said lets try that...6 months later..it went into remission....does not stay there..it comes back out, full blown every 5-7 years..and i have to do the red meat with every meal for the 6 months & then..it goes back to sleep...now, realistically i know the day will come, where this will no longer work & it will kill me..but look at all these years this meat diet bought me.....Truth..is stranger than fiction.

I noticed I do need to supplement some vitamins and minerals.I wake with migraine and leg cramping, so mow I am supplementing electrolytes and xtra magnesium. Natural calm helps. I simply grind grey salt in my hand and dissolve it in my mouth till headache goes away. I’m learning my body. I’m 58 and female. No more depression! Yay.

Ok. 12 days carnivore (I started the 29th of May)... I feel great. I have not had to take any supplemental salt to keep my blood pressure in check or my electrolytes in balance. I feel more energetic. My mental clarity is unchanged--keto worked just fine for that. My level of satiety is still good. The belly fat is going down. Meal planning is easier than ever. That is the good. The negatives...boring. Not enjoying my meals. My sleep is not as deep or refreshing as it had been on regular keto. I am less regular...not constipated, but I had become accustomed to 2ce a day bm's. I realize that 2 weeks (almost) is not enough time to evaluate something properly. I just know that this is not sustainable for me. 2 weeks and change to go. I think that I will wind up somewhere in the middle of these two eating styles. I think I need more protein than typical keto, and less plant based foods, but not as much protein as carnivore.

I've eaten ketogenically before but always struggled with keeping carbs low because I do love to eat my veggies, even the green ones. I have skin problems (some eczema a couple places, including spots on my face), and I've been battling severe depression and anxiety disorder that has barely been helped with medication and therapy. I'm thinking of trying to be as close to zero-carb as possible, if not completely zero-carb to try to help with this. I'm going to give it a solid month to 6 weeks. What do you eat to see results? I mean obviously meat, but do you use any particular fat to cook? Do you avoid any particular meats (such as pork, or fish/seafood because of the mercury and stuff people talk about ), or dairy?
@monicaambs
@monicaambs 6 лет назад
Although I am not a carnivore totally, I do eat only meat some days. Thats some days. But the most profound thing I experienced is the disappearance of my depression. As soon as I stopped eating more than 20 grams or less. Sometimes I only eat under 10 grams of carbs and my depression has not returned since going low carb.

This is my day 80 of carnivore (2 Aug19) ..in the past 2 weeks I’ve averaged 1-1.5lbs weight loss..actually fat loss even though I’ve lost 15 pounds in these 80 days I know the 12 pounds was inflammation. I’ve had a lot of health improvements including the dark spots on elbows, finger joints, and knee caps (almost gone), and a dark rough patch on a shoulder blade these are gone (except knee caps); eczema on my calves...gone. I have insulin resistance but I believe this is diminishing the past week because my legs aren’t weak and sluggish when climbing stairs anymore which is a good indicator the muscles are using ketone energy instead of sugar energy. I introduced cheese back into my diet and found it made my joints HURT (not ache). I’m still healing but so far I have the will power, because of the positive results, to resist even when the smells and foods I used to eat stare me in the face at the supermarket. I am just walking (6 days/week 1-3 mi/day) and occasionally weight bearing exercises. I was sleeping really well but once I started burning actual fat (the past couple of weeks) I haven’t been sleeping very well but I’m also not exhausted after a 10 hour day at work despite some days I’m up at 2 AM. My favorite cut of meat is chuck eye. I also take sole (“soul-lay” - a salt water mix) especially for the electrolytes and minerals in Himalayan salt...not sea salt, mountain salt. I am down to two meals a day and am beginning to understand the psychology behind one meal a day as I am getting bored with beef (! My psychology) until I take my first bite then it’s soooo good.. I do eat bacon, eggs, butter, beef. I purchased a Phillips air fryer which no more fat splatter on my stove, floor and on me! I also do coffee enemas twice a week which purges the bile from the gallbladder and all the fat I’m eating and aids the liver. I’ve been searching for the fountain of youth since 2001, I’m 58.5 years old and that profile picture is me today...I think I found the fountain for me. Thank you for this very informative video!

Talking about brains, I remember sitting at the table with my grandfather and eating sauteed beef brains on white bread toast. This is a long time ago, (iving in Belgium, ) as I am now in my seventies. Eating brains and liver were regular meals at my grandparents. Sauteed brains are soft and mild in flavor. My grandmother would use either butter or beef fat to sautee the brains. I don’t remember how long she cooked them. When done, we topped some white bread toast with a generous prtion of brains. In case you wrpere wondering, the wheat then was not the hybridized wheat of today and had a much lower gluten content.

I've been on carnivore/low carb for a month. I can't eat past 1500 calories now since I've included more animal fat. Somedays I have to force myself to eat to reach 2200 since I work out. But now, I just listen to my body and I feel great.
@StephaniePrice

She is my inspiration. I've been doing keto and it's not working and I think it may be due to the plants I eat. It's possible my body just wants to be a carnivore and it keeps yelling at me and I am finally listening. I feel so much better. My anxiety is down, my cycles are normal. It's weird. The only problem is you'll never look at animals the same way again. it's like the opposite of being Vegan. You mention steak and I get primal. lol

Same here, I just watched his interview with Mikhaila Peterson and her carnivore journey and that really opened my eyes also. May do carnivore soon. I like salads, but I think they're holding me back and dairy.

I can speak from my personal experience about the effect of a carnivorous diet on female cycles... I was diagnosed with PCOS, but you'd never know it today! My symptoms are all nonexistent. I also began getting hormonal migraines at the age of 17. I was on medication for the disabling cramping pain as well. I've not had cramps in a year, and my migraines disappeared as well. From 1993 to 2017 I had disabling migraines (light sensitivity, sound intolerance, nausea, weakness, visual disturbances...) Now, not even a headache!!! :D I can't recommend this enough to people who are at their wits' end with physical or emotional issues like Amber said, you have nothing to lose if you just try it... give it a month. See how you feel. I tried it, and I'm not going back! ^.^
@gathercreatelivewithleslie8340
Keto Darvit thank you for sharing, it's very helpful. I'm keto now but am not getting to where I want to be and thinking about carnivorous. I also had done raw vegan an it didn't help. I think I need to transition over to the meat side lol. I've been holding off, but just need to take the leap.

Good for you!! Same here in a way, although I never went all carnivore but pretty low carbs (no sugar, only occasionally very little artificial sweeteners, no grains, potatoes, pasta... only carbs from low carb veggies and nuts. My migraines are gone, for PCOS: that was no question any longer as I had cancer and therefore "everything" (uterus, ovaries and tubes) removed before I startend this very low carb diet (20 - 25 g of net carbs). Interestingly enough I even could gradually reduce the heavy medication for chronic pain to where I hardly take any now and only occasionally whereas before I could not go a day without several prescription strength pain killwrs. All of this on top of managing my diabetes type 2 of many years without Insulin shots to this day (although doctors usually love to get you on insulin). Definitely a whole lot of benefits from leaving out those carbs, that's for sure. All the best to you and stay healthy!!

Eating an all protein and fat does not kick me out of ketosis. I do not salt anything but I occasionally take some Himalayan pink salt. Not long ago I felt bad and my heart rate was elevated, I dissolved some Himalayan pink salt in a glass of water and drank it, instantly I felt normal and after about 10 minutes my heart rate returned to normal. So now every few days I take some salt.

I've found that the less cooked my meat is, the less I have to salt it. I was afraid of getting bored with the diet or not being able to eat some things bc of texture, but the opposite has happened for me. I'd never tried bone marrow before this diet & it is my absolute FAVOURITE. It tastes like fresh butter and the high fat feels more filling than a pound of muscle meat.

On bacon - No need to fear salt. However, one can always just get sliced pork belly. That is the cut that bacon is made from. The nitrates used to 'cure' bacon concern me more than the salt. And the sugar usually added!! Try buying a pork belly from a small, local farmer raising pork naturally on pasture and/or forest glen/woodlot - and smoke it at home! Or just enjoy it sliced - with your favorite natural trace mineral salt, Himalayan or Redmond, or...? (Sea salt now contains plastic mircobits, which should NOT be eaten.)

Kudos to you, Amy, for having an open mind! Sadly, animals are harmed by the production of plant-based diets, so that reason for eating just, or nearly all, plants does not make sense. CAFO animal production can be sad, (though some are clean, provide adequate space, etc). By far the best source of meats and milk is the family-scale farm, where animals have access to fresh air and sunshine, and eat a species-appropriate diet. There are small farms in nearly every corner of the country who are raising contented and healthy animals. Many are able to keep their animals healthy with NO chemicals or drugs at all. 100% grassfed and grass-finished, aka 'fattened', beef, sheep, goat, etc is ideal. Pastured pork, eggs, and poultry are also good choices, The nutritional content, lack of chemical residues... and the FLAVOR! It is worth seeking out these dedicated farmers and supporting them - while we still have the choice to get our food from real farms run by real people.

A year and a half into keto we decided to try carnivore. One week into carnivore and we were feeling awesome...until we got invited to a backyard birthday party yesterday. We almost said no because she did not want us to bring our own food she said she had everything planned and had enough food. So thinking it’s summer we said to ourselves they will have a BBQ...so on our way to the party we planned what we would eat....2 hamburger patties with cheese...and as not to disclosed the reason for our choice we would tell everyone (who would ask about our choice of food) that we had a big lunch with friends earlier. (Very obese people in our family - we did not want to debate our choice with 20 negative people). It was not a BBQ! It was trays of Subway subs! Potato salad (I had to ask what is was because I did not recognized it as potato salad) a spinach salad and condiments like pickles and olives. For a few minutes I panicked! I stood in front of the table and did not know what to eat! I was thinking maybe take all the sandwiches apart and eat the meats 😂. Anyhow just like keto it was one of those “just go with the flow” moments. I had small roast beef sub (it was really good :)) and some spinach salad without questioning the dressing and it was also very good. Today we are both visiting the bathroom a little more often than usual our stomachs are feeling a little off so we decided to drink plenty of water and fast. We will start carnivore all over again tomorrow.

Great episode thank you for that. Regarding your thoughts on sea food, I’m starting my third carnivore month now, I absolutely love it, really can’t think of life without eating just carnivore and I don’t miss anything of the other stuff. I eat a lot of salmon and smoked mackerel, I do ad a little bit of butter to my salmon and I always feel great just like after eating a big ribeye or good lamb. I would say that my two best foods are salmon and ribeye steak, and if anyone that’s reading this and has had some poop issues on a carnivore diet, then I would say that your not eating enough fat, try picking steaks that are with just they more fat ;)

Thanx for this info. Very helpful. Been doing Keto for 7 months. Doing ok, but feel like I can improve. Have been hypoglycemic since young adult. Strong genetic influence for this. Have always craved/needed high level of protein. Now with Keto and transitioning to carnivore, still enjoy high protein. High fat helps me feel better when paired with high protein diet. Tummy feels better with less carbs too. Interesting, I'm trusting & listening to my body and therefore finding a carnivore with avocado & a little dairy diet. Very satiated with this lifestyle. 👍

It’s interesting that I am drawn to the fattier cuts of meat doing THIS particular WOE but when I was eating carbs, even strict keto, I was eating leaner cuts like a lot of fish and even chicken. I think that was because I was using a lot of coconut oil and eating salads with olive/avocado oil...oh and eating a lot of avocados. This diet is a great way to discover what food allergies you have. But I definitely love to throw a beef chuck roast into the crock pot and chow on that for a a couple of days. I buy the large boneless leg of lamb lambs either from costco or Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods, and if I eat fish or chicken, I add either ghee or tallow to the mix but definitely find I’m more satiated with the beef. I only just began this process and am a bit concerned with gut stuff. I don’t feel it’s healthy or comfortable to skip a day without going to the bathroom. That has always been an issue for me so if anyone has any tips on that, I’d appreciate your experience and feedback. :)

19:50 I have the same, more than 5 coffee gives me the cafein crash, and feels like a high carb binge eating crash. Try pre workout with caffein. 150 or 200 mg caffein can work better than just filling the stomach with the brown fluid.

I've been dabbling with the term, "faunavore" As in flora and fauna. Although "plant-free" (one of Ambers) is pretty nice, as it allows non-meat animal sourced foods, dairy, eggs etc, and implies 'liberation' from plants. As mushrooms aren’t plants they can be included in a plant free diet, but I’m not sure where they fall in the flora and fauna model. Any ideas? Amber is Gold, Thanks guys.

The carnivore's diet is working perfectly for me after less than one month of adaptation whereas the "classic" keto did not. Also I am one of those who is fine with high levels of proteins and moderate fats, such as 2x proteins in terms of grams or almost 50/50 in terms of calories. Also I heavily exercise daily, am 6,1' tall and 46 so proteins help. Last time I tried a (mostly) carnivore diet 3 years ago I was biased so kept q.tity low, about 1lb a day so I got fatigued, used to train hard 3h a day indoor and outdoor climbing. Had I known about it then would I not have tried the disatrous vegan diet (1year) that caused me loooots of issues after the first ok month. Seems I too had to try the hard way to clean my mind from the 'saint healthy plants' bias we live in

The worry about cutting everything but meat and then reintroducing is Jordan Peterson said he reacts worse now to the foods that aggravate him. That’s what stops me from trying it. I don’t want to not have certain foods forever, but would be happy 80/ 20. The body is amazingly adaptive so maybe one loses the ability to handle the non meat foods? That’s scary. What are people’s thoughts?

I wonder if vegans have the same issue (in terms of severity) when switching back to meat. If not, it raises the question why the body is so quick to shut down its metabolic systems for detoxifying carbs but not vice versa. One hypothesis might be that these (carb detoxification) systems are evolutionary recent systems the body evolved out of necessity, and in the prolonged absence of carb intake deems them completely unnecessary for survival.

I buy untrimmed fatty tri tip. Roast uncovered in the oven at 250F to internal temp of 175 or so, about 5 hours. I can live off it all week, about 6oz per day. Untrimmed, there is a thick layer of fat on one side. I save that and east some with thin slices of meat. Gently reheat in a skillet and it tastes like prime rib.

I'm gearing up to go full carnivore, but don't want to lose weight, since I'm chronically underweight already 6'6'' @160 lbs. I recently began turpentine treatment and noticed quite a lot of worms come out, which would explain my condition. Anyone know if the carnivore diet is regarded as anti-parastic in general? Excellent interviewer btw, I've watched several of his interviews and very much appreciate his style.

I've read that one of the surest ways to get rid of parasitic worms is to starve them out. They feed off of carbs and sugars so going strict carnivore will do the trick. Mostly I read about people starving them out with water fasts, but I've come across a few cases of people claiming they accomplished the same with carnivore, but they had to be strict. Ocassional cheating will enable the worms to survive.

I love hearing about the carnivore diet because I’ve been “playing” with keto for a couple of months and I’ve found that I STILL just can’t stand vegetables, but MANY keto people talk about what vegetables one SHOULD eat. I’m finally starting to wake up to the fact that I need to listen to my body (except for when it tells me to eat pasta) 😁

The point about not bothering with macros is what I love about the carnivorous diet. Calculating macros was so hard for me with keto, and this is so easy. And effective. I've even been able to give up coffee without a problem.

I am type 1 diabetic. When I try to go carnivore, I get this persistent cramp in the middle of my chest, which gets worse when I lay down. A bit of labored breathing as well. As soon as I eat carbs and take bolus insulin, this goes away. What is this side effect? I don’t think I’m in danger of keto acidosis because I keep my basal insulin high and my blood sugar stays comfortably low during these attempted transitions.

Is it ok to also drink bone broth on the carnivore diet? I suffered great;y on the Keto diet as I ate too much fat, veg smoothies and little protein. I had diarrhea for 10 days. I stopped Keto and slowly recovered. I had bad mood swings often thinking of death and dying. Today is my 2nd day on this diet and already I am feeling so much better. My mood is so much better too. Thank goodness we have a fresh meat shop that has just opeed for business and they sell grass fed meat. I am learning bit by bit each day. I need to reverse my diabetes and stop taking insulin comepletely. Please help me by teaching me what i need to know about the carnivore diet. Thank you

The strict carnivores say bone broth will fill you up and you won't eat enough meat. Maybe when you heal your body you can go back to it? Just eat fatty meat until full and drink water for a month and see how you feel.

I´m just starting a carnivore diet, and I live in Japan...many kinds of fish and seafood is easy available here and also in general more affordable than beef meat...and also I think there was a period of time in history of Japan, when people where starving and that´s why they ate whales a lot...not so common today but you can always find fatty tuna etc....so I think it´s possible to find some seafood carnivores in Asia...
