Growing Chocolate Rocoto peppers indoors from seed - How I do it
I've been growing Chocolate Rocotos indoors for several months. The plants are currently yielding the second harvest of rocoto peppers. In this video, I show how to germinate and start rocoto peppers from seed. I used Rapid Rooter plugs (Root Riot works fine too) and Coco Coir, in one-gallon fabric pots.

I have such a problem with germination with Rocotos, with the wild cultivars being the most difficult for me
@pepperdactyl
@pepperdactyl 2 месяца назад
With rocotos, it helps to soak the seeds over night, and use a humidity dome after planting. Can just be a small clear cup sitting on top. If seeds are in a cup, a small ziplock bag over the cup. The fresher the seeds the better. It might take 8 or 9 days.

Beautiful rocotos! I have 3 roctos atm but I had a hard time getting them pollinated when they were inside, but outside bees have pollinated them well. I tried to hand-pollinate them before moving outside but it didn't work. I read somewhere that some roctos need pollen from different plants to be pollinated. Do you know is this the case or might it been other reasons why my rocoto flowers didn't get pollinated growing them inside?

What's this Recharge stuff? Haven't heard of that before. Didn't see it in your Amazon links. I didn't grow any rocotos this year but I think I'll try some next season.
@pepperdactyl
@pepperdactyl 3 года назад
I just now put a link in the description. Amazon product page describes it as a plant growth stimulate, with beneficial bacteria, tricoderma, mycorrhizae, and other stuff. I saw another RU-vidr using it, swearing by it, that it helps the roots a lot. He would periodically add some too, during the grow cycle. I started using it on plant starts. The small 8 oz bag should last a long time. I've had mine for about a year, and barely put a dent in it.
@gapey
@gapey 3 года назад
@@pepperdactyl haven't heard of tricoderma but have been using mycorrhizae this season for stuff.

If you were to prune this plant a bit to keep it from going all over the place will you get less fruit?
@pepperdactyl
@pepperdactyl 2 года назад
Rocotos will go all over the place no matter what you do. They are very viney. Growing it indoors will require pruning at some point to keep it contained under the light. In general, though, all things equal, heavily pruned/topped plants can produce more fruit, as they can potentially have more bud sites.

Yes, I mentioned at the beginning but maybe rushed through it. Soaked seeds 24 hr, tap water. Rinsed coco and rapid rooter plug in tap water. Put seeds in plug, put plug in coco. Then covered the plug with a clear dome until sprouted.
