The cymbidiums look great. I think they will add a lot to the garden on their stand.

Thanks Roger. Good info today. You've got some superbly healthy looking cymbidiums. Of course blooms are the objective but to me, a healthy cymbidium is beautiful with or without blooms. Have a prosperous day.

I'm hoping the leaves do ok outside in the elements during the Summer - I may need to move them somewhere sheltered if we get any storms.

That’s funny!! I have not heard “sensitive dispositions” before! That is a good term lol!!!

Some people's tolerance levels are very low - wouldn't last long 'in the wild'?

Thank you for the closeup of the mosaic virus leaf. I saw that and realized one of my oncidium wild cat has the same virus. I quick moved it out of the grow area. I will keep an eye on the others.

Some orchids 'survive' with a virus quite well until put under stress when the virus gets a real hold and shows itself.

.......very nice show......your Cymbidiums have always been top notch......loved the nutrient talk and quantities your using.....540ppm....would seem high for most orchids but look at the size of those plants, their bulbs and all the leaves your producing.....hope they reward you with many spikes.....

Most are relatively new plants for me and I'm hoping they do better for being outside while the weather is suitable (Summer). They were not treated well last year - outside in heatwaves with no sun and mainly just the hose for hydration (tap water at 370ppm!). This year, they should get some morning sun, proper orchid feed and using the RO water with suitable pH. Also, I'll be changing to a low Nitrogen, high Phosphorus feed once they start to spike later in the year - recommended by a friend who grows show-quality Cyms to get more compact spikes with more blooms and better colours - yet to find out if this works but worth a try.

Hello Roger. I was told that dieback of older bulbs is normal for cymbids. If I’ve been following your plants correctly, you’ve not lost any! Lovely plants!

It is - but bulbs keep their leaves for quite a few years on Cymbidiums - maybe my plants just aren't old enough yet?

Mine have been outside for a week now so they should be able to stay out for the rest of the year but what's really growing on mine is the roots. It's like they want to fill the pot first

The only orchid type I have in black pots so I've no idea what my roots are like - but with all that growth, I'm sure they're fine.

During our last growing season I slightly increased the amount of fertiliser. Now there are bifoliate leaves on unifoliate catts., Odd growths on dens. & oncidium alliance orchids. I’m assuming there’s too much of something in the fertiliser I’m using, bought at a well known orchid nursery! Next season I’m trying a different brand.
@GrowingOrchidswithRoger
@GrowingOrchidswithRoger 3 месяца назад
It may not be the actual fertiliser - if the pH is not within a suitable range, some nutrients will be 'locked out' causing an imbalance?

If that cymb is in spike, take it as an experiment, see what happens without switching to a low N feed....? See if it _really_ makes a difference?
@GrowingOrchidswithRoger
@GrowingOrchidswithRoger 3 месяца назад
If I only had one type of feed (like for the last 20 years), I would have no choice. Having the choice and advice from people far more 'expert' than me regarding fertilisers, I ought to take that advice.

Hi Roger! Very informative as usual! I was wondering if your "Little Cutie" gets the same treatment as its bigger sisters? I would love those giant cymbdis but no space!
@GrowingOrchidswithRoger

Yes - they all get the same treatment.

It's the base from a Halogen (light) oven.
