Been growing a dragonfruit from a single cutting I found under a riding lawnmower. I think it's true about feeding them. For a year I know it rooted but there was no growth, I was vacuuming the fish tank and put some of the waste water on it and it's been growing segments like crazy now so I'll continue to do that.

Do you know whether the bats in Northern California will pollinate the dragonfruit flowers or not? And ask will they be able to survive in zone 9a? The coldest I’ve seen it get is around 24 degrees here

I can't say for sure, but many of the bat species in Northern California are either found in or migrate to Mexico, Central America, and farther south. So I would assume that those species would be familiar with nectar from cactus plants as a food source. You can find more about these species here: norcalbats.org/category/northern-california-bat-species/

Great video! I have citrus trees, and use a fertilizer specific for those...can I use it on my dragon fruit? Do you suggest an Epsom salt in water?
@Gardenerd
@Gardenerd Год назад
Fruit tree or citrus fertilizer will work fine. I don't recommend Epsom salts for Dragon fruit though. Not necessary.

Hi. I just got large one n did cutting wrong so thanks for advice. Our fruit in Cyprus is black and white inside. Is it same?
@Gardenerd

The variety is different, but the process is the same. Oh, and regarding cutting them - for one cutting of a different variety that a friend gave me, I decided to test out what would happen if I didn't trim the end at all. I just stuck it in the ground. It took root just fine, and it's grown a fair amount. Still no fruit on that one, but I'm excited to see it when it does.

What type of dragon fruit do you use in the video because I am trying to grow a plant from a store bought fruit. I'm just wondering because yours is pink and the one I have gotten is white instead.

Unfortunately I don't know the name of the variety. We took a cutting from our community garden and it wasn't labeled. There are different types, however. This site may help you ID your variety: gardenerspath.com/plants/succulents/best-dragon-fruit-varieties/

Quick question, what happens if I don’t feet it because this is controversial on the internet. I read a lot of posts saying not to feed it until it’s two weeks before harvest.
@Gardenerd
@Gardenerd 9 месяцев назад
I find that in containers it needs to be fed. I have not grown any in the ground. I assume in-ground plantings require less from us that in containers. I feed container plantings more often.

@@Brosky73 In a container, yes, I'd feed regularly during the growing season.

@@Gardenerdwhat is feeding frequency and type of fertiliser
@Gardenerd
@Gardenerd 4 месяца назад
@@AmjadEvan We use organic fruit tree fertilizer which has enough phosphorus and potassium to support fruiting and flowering. In containers feeding once a month is a good idea since the plant can't reach down into deep soils on its own.
