I'm VERY excited to connect with you Beru -Chan and really happy you are watching. I actually have a few young people watching and gardening, so I congratulate you for learning early in life that it's important to know what's in your food and the best way is to grow it yourself. I haven't tried ginger, but I'd like to. I'm so glad your grandmother passed down her love of gardening and I really hope you stick with it. Keep watching! Thanks! - Kaye

I have my garlic in the fridge, here in California last winter was warm my garlic was very small, I am hoping this trick will ensure my garlic will grow to a decent size.

I have found that if I leave a small number of garlic plants with a their scapes - when scapes straighten out and stop curling - plant is mature and ready to harvest 🤙 tip from canada

Thank you!! I usually grow soft neck, which is recommended in our zone, but I was given some hard neck last year and never managed to get the scapes and cook them, but I wanted to.

+angela sheppard I do! I am shooting, editing and uploading the Vlog on my own (which is why the quality is no where near as good), which is very time-consuming. If I can't get more people watching by the end of this Road Trip series, I will think twice about continuing. If you have friends who would enjoy the Vlog, or Late Bloomer, please share! If I quadruple my subscribers by the end of the summer, I can afford to keep going. Thanks!

I'm in Zone 6b here in mid-Missouri and out here I grow hardneck garlic, they're supposedly more cold tolerant. It does take patience. I plant mine in the fall (mid October or so), they usually sprout before winter, and then when the freeze comes, the tops die off and the cloves will over winter if you mulch them. In spring, they will come up again and you'll have bulbs usually by July 4. The neat thing about hardneck garlic is that in the spring, they will send up flower stalks called scapes and they're edible (a nice preview of coming attractions) and it's recommended that you take them off in order to send more energy to the bulb. This year I'm growing a variety called "Music" and the tops are noticeably drying out, so we'll see what happens in a few weeks, they may be early this year! Found your videos about a week ago and you've inspired me with ideas on what to put in spaces that I had not thought about. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for finding me, Keith!! I am writing to you from Berlin! This show is in a web festival in Geissen - die Seriale - starting tomorrow, where I will make my way to after shooting a video with a fan here in Berlin who has a one year-old garden. She's Filipino, now German and has sent me many seeds, as you will see if you keep watching more current videos. I have 12 hard neck garlics growing this year, and it is also Music, but as of my leaving, I did not see any scapes. Just very healthy vigorous leaves. Thanks so much for watching, and I hope you subscribe and you find lots to interest you! Happy Gardening!

LOL so funny love you episodes. Just discovered your channel today. Thank you for them. I am interested in gardening but were I live my yard has absolutely no sun at all none what so ever. Maybe I could plant shade veggies I don't know maybe you can make a vid on that? Any who love your humor keep 'em coming :-D
@Latebloomershow
@Latebloomershow 9 лет назад
Thank you, Andrea Gonzalez I'm glad to know you are enjoying them. No sun is a problem, though you can grow potatoes, beets and chard and a few other things with only a bit of sun per day. You could try a couple of large cloth pots of potatoes to start. Buy organic, quality seed potatoes to avoid diseases from store bought. I also strongly encourage you to look for a community garden to join, because I sense you would enjoy it. Also, what's happening a lot now in cities is pairing with a neighbor who can't grow a food garden, but has sun. Offer to do the garden and share the produce. There's always something to share and you both benefit. Please keep in touch. I'd love to know if you do this. Thanks for subscribing and watching!! - Kaye

Had an old timer tell me while I am waiting for the garlic to form, i can cut the green parts for salads also can do this with onions.Mite check this out.I did this couple of years ago,very flavorful. Don't think it stunned the growth any.Thanks

+angela sheppard Yes, Sharon mentioned that to me today, to cut the flower off and cook it. If you let the flower form it robs the bulb.

Hi Kaye, I love planting garlic in small places and in droves to scare away the bugs around my tomatoes and zucchinis. Have you every tried soaking the cloves before you plant them I find the cloves sprout much quicker after 2 days of soaking. Also do you eat the greens of the garlic? We love adding it to salads. How long did you let your garlic grow? Thanks for the share! Scarlett
