Growing Pains And Great Changes⎮Percy Jackson Season 1 Review 

Well good for Rick. It has been renewed for a season 2. Hopefully it builds on the weakest points and the strongest points

The interesting thing I noticed was how much the actors especially Percy's actor improved on his acting skills towards the ending. You can definitely see the difference in the facial expression. It's like he got better as he went along.

I really enjoyed season one despite it's problems. I hope they can look at some of the criticisms and apply them to season 2 to try and make it even better.

While I had issues with this season I still enjoyed it, I just hope for the next one they bring more of the fun elements and humor that was in the books

as a book reader i actually loved it, i love the way the black sails writers have changed and enhanced aspects of the source material to make for a more interesting future, particularly with luke and percy. I felt like the pacing and duration was a bit of a problem though, it needed more breathing room in parts, particularly camp. And i did miss the extended version of lukes speech but we skipped the western civilization theme in this season so maybe that will come back later (knowing the black sails writers it definitely will)

As someone who has NEVER read the books and only saw the first 30 minutes of the first movie and stopped watching that out of simple "it sucks lol",, aka a nearly pure "casual" I am quite pleased with the show. I felt that the pacing was a lil wonky in places but overall not bad. I did end up getting all 6 books on audible tho, so it definitely will have that effect in boosting the popularity of the original books among the general population. I'm 33 and well out of the target demographic. I can't wait to start :3

Rick said they are going to include more of Percys humor in season 2.

I liked the show my only complaint is it was lacking some more action which could have added to the runtime. You can definitely tell Disney had a set budget for this season but hopefully the hype causes Disney to increase the budget for next season

I've read the the books back in grade school (10 years ago or something like that). The first two episodes inspired me to re-read them, though in hindsight it might've been a mistake, since the plot was fresh in my mind and it made the changes more noticeable. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the series, I did, I watched it twice. At first, the amount of exposition was really annoying (?) but I am aware that it's difficult to recreate written word into natural conversation. Afterward, the show only gained in quality and I can honestly say it was the best adaptation we could've asked for. Loved your reviews of every episode, hope you will continue that when the new season comes out!

8 episodes is not enough 😭 what happened to the 20 episode seasons???

I had mixed feelings about the show *Loved* 1) Trio: They surprisingly had a good chemistry 2) Visuals: Some of the visuals were really well done and very beautiful 3) Medusa & Echidna: Honestly, they were the one who made me love the show more. They really left a mark, so much that I almost started wishing that they return back 4) Sally flashback: I don't know about others but I loved it. It really showed Sally's struggle with a demigod child 5) Poseidon & Sally's relationship: Intense, I like that they did not show Sally as just another women in his life but she meant a lot to him, enough for him to break the oath 6) Book faithfulness: Mostly I loved that they tried to follow the book as much as possible 7) Luke: It might sound controversial but I loved Luke in show more than book. In show, he genuinely felt like a traumatized, angry and misled teen and not some homocidal maniac *Dislike* 1) Too much exposition: I am just not a fan of too much telling. I would have liked it if the exposition was more natural and "shown" 2) Too short eps: My biggest issue with the show has been their short run time. I just felt that lots of shortcomings in the show could have been overcome if they just made all the eps 45 mins -1 hour long 😑 It felt too rushed 3) Certain questionable decisions: I wish they had shown some of things like Annabeth and Luke's bond, Annabeth's vulnerability, Grover being more of ride and die frd instead of Annabeth, more of the camp, them not knowing some of the obstacles, more of Percy being smart rather than self sacrificing etc 4) Short action scene 5) And lastly, No suspense. I never felt the thrill or chill or realizing they are in a trap. I wish they had included that

Book fan here since 2010 and I LOVED IT. Can’t wait to get into new territory with Sea of Monsters

I think 8 episodes would be enough given how short the second book is, but the runtime might need some work. The other issue I think the other seasons should have at least 10 episodes

I loved this season. Sure it wasnt perfect, no show ever will be. But I've matured since my days of watching Harry Potter and wanting a one to one retelling. Not all the changes made were great but tbe majority were and they improved on the story. Knowing Rick, I'm sure he'll take note and I'm sure it's only going to get better going forward. Looking forward to season 2.

it would be hard to replace lance indeed, but since gods can take on any form they please that makes it a lot easier for a recasting at the very least, though really sad to see him go😢😢

There are some moments who were really enjoyable, but overall as a person who read and loved the 5 books it was a nah season. They sometimes strayed so badly from how it should be, and it wasn't for the better. Examples: Percy vs. Alecto 1st fight was outside to the eyes of the public. Percy figuring out stuff too quickly, which takes away the suspense of the reveal. Annabeth my favorite in the books, they don't do her character justice and I don't blame Leah, I blame the poor directions they are giving her. Speaking of missjustice Grover is useless. Also they keep on separating the trio too much. The worst change of all- Annabeth is able to raise a blade against Luke!

I totally agree with what you said about how the ridiculousness in the books could have translated very well to an animated show. I have been saying that since before even the movies were made that it should be made into an animated show. I like this show and I'm enjoying it, but I still would have loved (and maybe preferred) to get an animated show. They could have kept more of the funny stuff and characterizations from the book. You can do so much with animation that would look really cool in a way that special effects don't always in live action. The monsters, the underworld, and the all the fights and chases could have all been ramped way up in an animated show. But whatever. I'll take what I can get.

Overall it was pretty good. Best part of the show were the three leads. You could see them get better and their chemistry grow as the show progressed. So happy a season 2 was greenlit

Loud Clarisse is the only thing I really miss.

Am I the only one that thinks the one perfect thing about the movie that no adaption can surpass is the casting of Luke by Jake Abel? He fits the description of Luke being a sandy haired and blond has a playful demeanor that makes him seem like a perfect friend, but has the rage that he really wants to destroy Olympus and he is willing to do anything to get that done. I actually do feel that actor was born to play that role, unfortunately the Hollywood executives were born not to produce that story. And when they were going to make a more faithful adaption he was already to old to play someone that was a camp counselor or even an older brother mentor esque to a 12 year old.

I gotta say I loved the actor and he did amazing as "the king of the gods" but the thing about Zeus is that he didn't really deserve to be king of the gods all that much. The only reason he is is that he was given a fighting chance instead of being consumed as a baby (and I guess fate since the greeks were obsessed with that concept) but he's the youngest of his siblings, arrogant, nonchalant, shows zero responsability and abuses his power and mistreats his wife: he IS supposed to be a manchild. Great performance and great characterizations for an antagonist in such possition, but not really very good writing for Zeus.

As an amateur writer, I felt the series was a little bit rushed and there was no challenge for the characters. Since they already know all of the Greek stories, even the lesser known stories from Greek mythology. It feels like their trying to rush though the first two books, because they’re afraid to be compared to those another movies. Which Disney will ruin the show by season three, just like Mandalorian.

My only complaint is that they made Percy too smart. He figures out 2 of the biggest plot twists on his own (Kronos' involvement and Luke's betrayal). While the battle after Luke's reveal was worth it, the Kronos reveal worked better in the book

My immediate disappointment is how quickly Percy becomes a Mary Sue. I get he's a demigod but with zero experience how the hell does he solo 3 other demi gods? But it's a decent watch overall

I think the series has a lot of wasted potential. It looks beautiful, the acting is good and the cgi too, but in my opinion it was sooo boring. I'm sorry I really wanted to like the show but I didn't. Every shot was filmed at least 4 seconds too long (there's a landscape shot for 13 seconds! And nothing happens on screen or in the audio during this time). I feel like there was no energy at all. The characters talked pretty calm, never interrupted each other and didn't talk like kids. Because of the long shots the series feels very slow. Only the last episode is better (like the fight between Percy & Luke). Oh and the most ridiculous thing was that Percy didn't really know the "what is love" song. Seriously?! That's old people trying to write a young character. I promise even 12 years old kids know this song that is probably one of the most recognizable songs of all time. And pls don't include tiktok dances into series / movies. Those old men trying so hard to write a young character but do they really know young people irl?

As a book reader. I thought the first half of the show was pretty good and was a solid 7/10 as an adaptation. The second half for me was a 4/10. They really fumbled a couple character interactions and made changes that I didn’t enjoy to the overall story. I’m excited for season 2 but I definitely don’t expect it to be better than the first season since The Sea of Monsters is my least favourite book out of the main series.

I would rather watch a 2 hours fun action paced movie (even if it's inaccurate to the books) than this 8 hours show which is just closely accurate to the books but still lacking many aspects of story writing, world building, casting, pacing of the show and whole lot more.

The better question is: Was it better than the movies?

I hate this show! And that's strong because I usually like most of what Disney brings out. My view is that as long as I'm entertained, and the episodes are pretty good, then I'm going to enjoy it. Sorry, but I just didn't like this show and I didn't love this show either. Everything was just way too easy for them, there's no chemistry between the characters, there was no music score during the fight scenes, and if there was anything interesting it didn't last long. I won't be watching season two or the other seasons either. If I want to find out what happens, I"ll read the books. My brain totally disengaged from the story. I also believe the season should of been longer. And if Rick wrote the screenplay then he's just as bad as Rowling in writing one. I know that there are a lot of people that love this show, but it was pure torture getting through even the first episode. Goosebumps was better!

I didn’t like the show too Much I was super excited but the show stray to childish which is fine but is not for me anymore. I thought it was going to be an all ages show like most Netflix shows but nah is mainly for kids
