You guys are the coolest couple!! I live in Casa Grande, your videos have been the perfect help for me! It's a challenge gardening in the desert, but I like it! Just adds to the fun. I'm waiting for a few trees to grow for a micro climate for a passion fruit. I'm thinking in a year or two. That passion fruit was beautiful!! Great job guys.
I just found you guys. We are of like minds, love my backyard and one of my fav spots. Question on the passion vine. Does it freeze in your area? If so how do you protect passion vine and do you get fruit? I ask because I was told if I want it to fruit I need to plant in pot and protect it during the winter. Okay so that's all, really beautiful pergola!
Wooow! Absolutely beautiful! We’re going to try passion fruit and we’re debating putting it on a trellis against a wall that is west facing, but maybe we’ll wait for the next pergola we’re putting up🤔 is Happy new to the family?😍
Ours is growing on a west facing wall, but we did baby the main part of the plant through its first summer. Happy has been with us almost 2 years! We have some videos of him in the archive :D
This is amazing! Do you think the passion fruit would do well in a grow bag as well? The only afternoon sun protected area I have is in the side yard and its narrow and close to the fence, so I'm afraid to water too much there.
That would probably be fine, as long as it's a large grow bag. You'll want to provide some sort of trellis for it as well. As the plant matures, it will be able to tolerate full sun. :) Hope this helps!
Hi great video, we have passion vine too. Also a pergola, however both are aired at different locations. Do you think the passion vine would survive being replanted to the pergola. It’s about 4 years old and about 10 metre tall
Transplanting can be tricky, and we like to compare it to doing surgery. If you decide to try transplanting it, dig it out far from the roots, trim back some of the vines, and water immediately after you get it into its new hole. Seaweed extract helps tremendously with root development and transplant shock. Hope this helps!
We have just potted two in fairly sized planters. Is that okay if we want them to vine up our pergola? Or is it an absolute must for them to be planted in the ground?
It should be fine keeping them in those containers. Passionfruit usually has a lifespan of about 3-5 years, so if they start to deteriorate in a few years, they could either be root bound or just ending their cycle. Hope this helps!
I live in Puerto Rico and I’m trying to grow my own passion fruit. I’m starting off well, I believe. I have about 30 some passion fruit plants in individuals pots my garden. They all grew from some of the seeds of one passion fruit. So, my question is. How many should I try and plant for this kind of growth to happen. I can probably give the rest away to some friends and family. I don’t want to overcrowd. So, that’s my main doubt about all this. Any helpful tips would be appreciated. Thank you!
This single passionfruit vine was about three feet tall when we got it, and it covered this entire pergola in under a year. Try starting with one or two and see what happens! :D
I was thinking it’s amazingly huge for this early in the year! It’s amazing! I was also wondering if you covered it or anything. Just plant d my first a few weeks ago!
Previously we had tried growing it against the western cinder block wall, and it was exposed to too much sunlight. It seems happier with more airflow and a little afternoon shade when getting established!
Happy: "My escape plans were nearly discovered when the human approached my command center. Had he not called my name seconds before ripping the roof from over my head, my co-conspirators Bunny Foo Foo and Tweets would surely have been discovered. The day of reckoning draws nigh!"
Greenies Garden well it must be true! Lol... hope u make more vids about this vine... I want to plant one myself... I’m in Phoenix area too... love your channel!
You may be over- or under-fertilizing, or may need to just introduce more pollinators to your yard? There are several different things that can come into play regarding fruit set. At least it's a beautiful vine, with or without fruit! :D
Just as an add-on to the invasive part...it is similar to mint with that regard! In other wards it starts in a corner of your yard on a fence line, trellis, etc. And with the right conditions unchecked could start growing under your lawn.
