I have a peace lily that we received as a wedding present, 30 yrs ago. It's been through cats peeing in the soil, completely freezing to the point of all leaves dying and root rot. I thought she was done for. I put her tuber and the two leaves it had left in water and it's come back to life! Amazing how nature works and the power in plants!
Plants are some of the most hardy living organisms. But 30 years? That's unheard of for me. The most I have heard of is around 10 years. By the way, peeing may actually be beneficial to most plants. I use aquarium fish water to water my plants.
Wow these are beautiful! Watched your other video on how to recover from root rot and now I’ve propagated mine into some smaller ones. Praying this helps bring them back! Thank you!
That's amazing! I didn't think they would turn out this well!! You are very good at raising, keeping and maintaining Peace Lilys, I have read they were a bit tricky to raise after separating them, very good!!
Thank you!! I've never been hearted by a RU-vidr, besides that other Peace Lily video! You are probably the healthiest oxygen breather on the planet, with your army of Peace Lilys 🤣
Thanks. Actually things haven't changed much since the separation. Only 2 of the jars are the plants that I am trying to save, the others are healthy ones.
I hope so, it will probably take months for them to grow back some roots though, assuming things work out fine. You should get some peace lilies too if you wanna improve your air. Haha I don't stay in my room all the time though.
I have a giant peace lily on a pot that I have separated recently. And it just starting to Sag. What shall I do. Do I have to leave it on the pot and wait till it all comes back up? Or saggy leaves will come back to life just a little bit of time?
Love the video I'm going to put some in a fish tank is there anything special I need to do to help them not to shock during the transition or they will recover on there own?
It's hard not to prevent a shock since it's quite a big change for the roots. Make sure its environment and temperature stays the same before and after. Clear out as much soil as possible before putting them in water and change out the water daily if possible. They will most likely recover on their own.
Basically, the only way and the best way in my opinion to save a root rot is by doing water culture. I did make a video on how to save it, please check it out and let me know if you have any questions: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uyxVSWq_ui4.html
Any ideas on why a peace lily that was bought bare root at a fish store immediately gets droopy with roots only in the top of aquarium tank? I’m stumped
Were the roots in water or soil before you bought it? I never heard any store selling peace lily in water or bare roots. If it was in soil then it's common. If it was in water then it could be temperature/light/humidity. It's a sensitive plant after all. Maybe put it in regular water and see what happens in the next couple of days.
I don't use any liquid fertilizers. All my peace lilies in water are doing fine so I don't know the answer to your second question. I only know they look way cooler in water than in soil when you can see their roots. Check out my update video in the description.
Hi, I hope you can help. I recently took my peace lily out of soil (after having some spots on several leaves. I believe something wasn’t right and wanted to clean and repot. I thought it was root rot but the roots are gorgeous!) anyway, I decided to try water culture since I didn’t have the right soil mixture (used Miracle grow and I think it’s too thick.) My peace lily is under a plant light and water up to the roots only. Any idea on why it’s drooping? It never drooped even in soil. I don’t want it to die.
It will undergo shock when you put a plant from soil to water. Give it a week or two to see how it goes. Some roots and leaves may die but it's normal. It takes time for the plant to adapt to water culture. New roots is going to form after a while. Remove all dying/rooting parts and change water every 2 days.
Thank you so much! I had this same worry. I just separated and put them in small water glasses yesterday and this morning they were dropping so I aas really worried. I will change thw water every two day and see how it goes.
@@marymcwilliams3184 Okay! Sadly the lily didn't make it. Can't believe it's been a couple of months and I have learned ALOT! It was fungus and I wish I would have sprayed it down and let it the soil dry out some. Thankfully though, another peace lily I got around the same time is doing so well. She's my survivor. Thanks for responding!
Just have a peace lily recently but it has been surrounded with pest in the soil! I wonder if your peace lilies have pests when you planted in in water? And does it thrive and bloom in low light (planted in water)? Thank you
I notice you only cover the roots in water. I think that’s what most people do wrong when trying to propagate the peace lily. Hmm I think I will do as you have done - I will take the water off my stems and just make sure that only the root are covered in water. Thanks for your help. Also, where’s the lighting coming from in this room? Home close are they to the light source?
Yes only cover the roots, not anything else. What do most other people do wrong? The lighting are from the windows, I don't put them there right now as I only did that for the filming. I put them next to the windows now with the blinds closed. I also have some in my garage and also have some next to a tinted window in my office. The ones doing the best are the ones next to the tinted window. Check out my update videos.
I have peace lilies that are bought originally with soil and transfered it in water. It has been few months and doing great, however recently i found out that most of the leaves have brown tips 😓 have you experienced the same thing?
My peace lily survived neglect without light in a fish tank filter. Although it lost leaves, the thing is still blooming. I put it in my pond under my grow light now and hopefully it’ll perk back up but I think that’s awesome, especially since it came from Home Depot.
Cargolplex Here you go! On imgur I uploaded some public photos and short descriptions to go with! It’s been surviving since April 2019 imgur.com/a/6BNFpal Edit: for some reason it gives a warning of adult content. Promise it’s just my pond haha.
You should make a video of it, it looks interesting. I am also into fish and ponds. I have put houseplants in the pond/aquarium before but I don't like the look of it and I need a cover if it's indoor. Houseplants mostly can't survive in outdoor ponds so eventually I just keep them in containers without fish. Your fish are pretty btw, I wish mine are like yours.
I have a peace lily that is on a single stem? Have not see this on any of the you tube showings? It is about 15" high and have some leaves on it? How do I get it to send out bottom shoots and make a bushy plant like I see on all the sites? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I actually have some peace lilies with 1 single stem. Watch this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-odmaPDBOv4c.html You can always put it in water and in a few weeks new shoots would come out.
Yes of course. Check out my update video and also the one on how to save peace lily from root rot. I may do another update video. Stay subscribed and thanks :)
My guess is when you change the plant's environment they often get transplant shock. It will take some time for them to adapt to their new environment. Also they seem to get yellow leaves at random even when they seem to be healthy. Just remove the whole leave all the way from the bottom of the stem when it turns very yellow.
Hey...I hav been growing peace Lily indoors in water for abt a month now....it grew roots very well...it also got a new leaf recently (so excited 🤩) ....but lately I've been noticing the tips of all the leaves going brown.....any idea why that might be? Wat can I do to make it better?
Is The amount of light at your plant location is adequate for peace liliy flowering? Water plant looks good vis a vis soil plant. I m growing it in water. Tell me the light issue..also will it flower if grown in water
Good question. I got asked this a lot and the short answer is yes. I am a big fan of growing plants in water so don't give up. I will make a video on flowering soon so stay subscribed at the moment :)
Yes..sure!! Further is it like so if this plant is initially grown in soil. And then if one removes the soil and try to grow it in water , then it won't grow?? As i have done the same thing. Will it grow and flower?
Hi ....i got a peace lily from nursery .so i hv a room with low light. So can i remove the plant wash the roots and put it in jar of water?.as i m not good in watering the plants kept in soil... most f my indoor plants get overwaterd.so i wanted to check if it's fyn keeping in water ?.and is it ok to change plant as soon as getting from nursery? (Heard f plant having environmental shock if v change them as soon as v get it from a nursery )
No you want to have a tighter fit in this setup since it won't stay upright. There's still some space left actually. Same as in a pot, you can get slightly bigger jars later.
@@carbrickscity Is it true? And they produce beautiful flowers just like that? I was very afraid that if I moved them to the water later they wouldn't bloom ):)
Make sure you wash away all the soil and remove all dead roots. Anyway this should be normal as the plant goes through what we called "shock", which should last 1 week or 2. If it doesn't recover, then it means there are other problems.
Ok I did do all that!! So I'm hoping I see good results in about two weeks....also I read where someone said you can add hydrogen peroxide to it as fertilizer....is this true?
So my peace lily was starting to turn brown and yellow leaves. Super saggy stems. I heard that it was because the soil was too wet. And the pot i was using didn’t have enough drainage holes. So how is fully submerging them in water better than having wet soil? Help my poor peace lily!!!!!
Very good question. To most people it doesn't make any sense why it thrives in water while it dies in wet soil. This is because soil contains bacteria and other microorganisms that are absent in pure water. Plus wet soil doesn't allow air and oxygen to get into the roots while clean water does. If your peace lily is in soil, make sure you use a pot with drainage holes. Never use one without any holes. They always rot if the pot doesn't have holes. I talked about it in my other videos so make sure you check them out and let me know if you have more questions.
Ok yea they def had root rot, so I cut all the dead roots and brown off. I had to sacrifice a flower tho :(. Do I keep the cup of water in low light just like before or more light?
Yours definitely has root rot. Remove all of the rotten ones and put the plant in water in a transparent container (glass preferred). Change the water every 2 days or when the water becomes murky. Remove any additional rotten parts. Keep it out of direct sunlight. I don't use any fertilizer or plant food myself.
Good question. I haven't tried it before. They have flowers and produce pollen but I don't know what to do with it. I have searched it before both on google and youtube but it seems there's no good tutorial for it. I guess it must be difficult to do so. Most people do it by cuttings.
The trouble with spathiphyllum chopin peace Lily's, is they are poisonous to animals so you have to keep them out of the reach of puppies. It is a defence mechanism in the plant to stop it from being eaten.
Camera zooms too fast. I wanted to see the far right plant. I need to go back and pause but it's not working well. Why is that plant so yellow/black? My peace lily's are all drama queens and dieing. I just put one in water. I'm holding my breath.
Maybe you should check out my other videos. I did not say this is a teaching/lesson/lecture. And of course you are have the freedom to leave any questions.
