Here because I just rescued a peace lily that was on the clearance rack. She was only $3.49 and she’s not bad looking. I just want to learn to help her thrive.
I love this video thank you so much. I've been trying to save the peace Lily my boyfriend and I got when his mother passed to keep her spirit going and I have some hope now! It really has been a difficult plant for me!
Thank you for the tips,; you covered practically all the needs of the peace lily. I observed that the variegated ones bloom more compared to the common peace lilies.
My peace lily only gave me one bloom earlier this year and i was so excited about it 😂 then the bloom got brown and ugly lol. Hoping to get more blooms in the spring 🤞🏼 Your peace lily is huge and beautiful!
Thanks so much for an indepth discussion of care! It's flowering, so that's good news! 😂 BTW, it's about 18" tall and was only $7.98 from Lowes. Nice and healthy.
Hello Emma. Your RU-vid videos on plants 🪴 is fun interesting informative. You’re super cool and inspiring with your knowledge. The videos helped tolerate the covid lockdowns as I am sure many others discovered. Your carefully planned content helps to encourage us to get out amongst it and give gardening a go. I like the intro music highlighting each topic. 10/10!! I have been a beginner gardener making lots of mistakes. Wishing I could grow successful natives like : kangaroo paw , Protea , Grevillea , sunflower , lavender in drought tolerant suburb of western Sydney.
The Peace Lily has three forms: submerged it is an "Amazon Sword"; it grows with roots emersed in water and takes a smaller shape and form than the potted form.
Update on this: It had root rot. Most of the individual plants died off, but I managed to save one of them, and that's currently doing fine. A little slow growing, but fine.
Hi, thank you for your video and info. I live in Mumbai, India and right now it's fairly cooler in Mumbai and about to transition to spring now. I got my Peace lily in December and i kept in window sill south west facing and about a week back the sun started getting a bit strong in afternoon, so moved indoor about 5 ft away from window where it does get light. When I got it from the nursery, it had a spathe shoot up but not "flowered" at all. While it was in window it wilted ! I was scared so I cut it 😓 now I am seeing there r roots visible from drainage hole in planter . Its in a 12 inch pot, and also I used bottom watering method for first time and that's when I noticed roots and also that it stood up extremely straight up in about a month as i left it overnight in watered tray . Now that was a mistake i thought but seeing her standing straight and happy was a surprise. .i don't know how to further care, repot it? Use bottom watering method? Also how to get it flowered. I haven't used any fertilizer except a liquid neem spray which acts as a fungicide and overall protection.
I've been watching soo many videos about peace lily's and every video starts with how easy they are to care for... yet I managed to kill mine within a week it looks soo sad and droopy.. I'm hoping it will just need water! Its a beautiful plant
Hello! Great video! The flowers are turning brown on my Peace Lily, I've been just cutting them off. The plant is still blooming very well. My question is at what time should I clip the dying flower? Thanks!
Hey! This is such a wonderful video. Thank you so much. I do have a question with regards to the plant. My peace Lilly started drooping like crazy. I made the mistake of putting it out in indirect sunlight, but the sun decided to come out in full swing. I'm super worried. The roots are sticking out, so I did adjust the soil a bit to hold it in and hopefully grow more productively. I would be grateful if you could help me out. Lots of love, take care and stay safe 💚🧿🙏🏾
Yes, they do clean the air, but to clean the air in a room, you would basically need to fill the ENTIRE room roof to floor to have any noticeable effect. 👍❤
I think NASA said that it would take five to 12 plants for each person in a 20 x 20 room, they were looking at integrating these types of plants into space missions because mechanical oxygen scrubbers are bulky expensive and are not easy to fix when they break. NASA put out a study on this about a decade (or 2) ago and it was fascinating to read! Highly encourage everyone to find/read it!
Then get some other air cleaners😅 Chinese evergreen is one it grows fast and is a beautiful easy growing plant. When people come in my home they say it smells fresh in my home. I have 32 in my home right now of various kinds and sizes and have had up to 400 . The more the merrier 🤗
My dad bought me one for my birthday. It is my 1st real plant. I have no idea how to care for it. 3 weeks later 1 white leaf turned brown on the edges, the other leaf (not the flower) is turning green. The third white leaf remained white and beautiful. Will try everything mentioned on this video. Should I replace the soil? Thanks for excellent, informative video!! Love this plant.
Unfortunately peace lily flowers are only temporary and will eventually brown and need to be removed. Doesn't sound like your plant is unhappy, just going through normal life cycles
How does all of your plants look soo beautiful as they are not real, I mean please let us know how do you make them look soooo clean neat and beautiful, you have so many plants how do you manage it so well?
Haha thanks! It's defo a lot of time and effort to keep them happy. But I assure you that they're not all perfect and I do have sad plants and dead plants too
I've not got any kalanchoe but I would think maybe orchid fertiliser would work as that has good things to help promote flowers on them? that's not a tested theory, just my initial thought
Has anyone experienced a browning of the spadix. After some research online I found that I needed to bc yet the spadix only ... I did that... yet I’m still concerned ... so far I am using spring water it and I also moved it away from the patio door. Any advice on whether I was suppose to cut off the spadix or if I need to cut the entire stem ?
Thanks for this helpful video! My peace lily's roots aren't popping out at the bottom of the pot but at the top of the soil. Is that normal? 😅 Does it mean it's time for repotting or is there a different problem I need to address? Please help this new plant mom 🙏
Thank you very much! I'll just try adding more soil. I'm trying to avoid repot since it's probably just getting used to its new environment. Just got it last week as a mature plant with 3 spathes and it's looking kinda sad 😔
Hi, I need help with my peace lilly. However i need to send a picture so you can see how it looks. The leaves keep getting black and brown patches and the patches keep growing
Thank you for this very helpful video ! Ive just got a peace lily myself but I found out that there are quite a number of tiny holes on the leaves and a few dark tiny balls sticking under the leave (about 1mm size). Is this common or could it be pest infection ?
My peace Lily leaves are turning black and I don’t know why. I water it once a week and use filtered water. There are no pests and no odd smells from the soil. What could be wrong?
My peace lily is growing well but the leaves aren't dark at all. Much lighter. Its not close to a window either so I don't know why it possibly is that way?
You can probably do a flush with some water and really get all the extra fertiliser out of the soil. But if it's burnt the roots you'll need to repot and trim off the dead roots
Hi !! I repoted my peace lily and now , all the stem are dropping .. like she need water but the soil is moist .. she was beautiful before that and very healthy . I found yellow leafs also ... I don't know what happened .. to much stressed because of the new pot ? Will she be alright ? :(
Hi Emma. Hi. I have another question about my Peace Lily that I've had since September 2020. She has been drooping more often lately. I water her but then she begins to droop badly again in 4-5 days. Otherwise, she is flourishing! Should I repot her? Or should I water her from the bottom?
Hmmm it's possible that it has outgrown the pot. Have you found that the soil is dry when it's dropping or is it still moist? You could try bottom watering to allow the plant soak up as much as it wants. If it is still drying out between, it probably needs a bigger pot. Good luck :)
@@GoodGrowing Not a good smell. It has a strong soil-like smell so I repotted in new soil and it still has that smell. It just started smelling like this a month ago
There's loads of cultivars. I recently bought two 'Sweet Lauretta' variants and they're huge. Easily grow up to 3 feet. Prior to that I had two 'Alana's' thinking they would get large but were only ever going to get up to 16 inches. I believe the 'Sensation' cultivar is the largest, growing up to 6 feet.
What does it mean when my peace Lilly flower (it only bloomed one) turns brown, and is there anything I can do to save her? All the leaves are still green and fairly perky, so I'm thinking she's not thirsty
Peace lilies aren't in bloom all the time, so its possible it will not bloom again for a while and then produce flowers again maybe in the spring. Just keep treating it like normal
My spathe is slightly green but its about 2m from a NE window. Only had it about a month so could this be too much light from where I bought it or something else? 🤔 The spathes were white until these 2 new ones, and no change in position or lighting here
That's totally normal, the flowers will come and go. Yes, prune that stalk with the flower down as low as possible without cutting the rest of the plant
When the flowers of the Peace Lily turn from white to green to brown, that is part of the life cycle. There is nothing you can do about this, nature has so determined this.
Oh no! Best bet in that situation is to repot in drier soil. When you do, remove any mushy, black roots. Those are rotten and will spread if you don't take them out. That should help, but if the root rot is too far along, it might not be salvageable. best of luck! I hope you can get them back to health!
I bought a peace lily and lost all its “flowers” within the first week or so :( how often do they flower given enough light? I heard they don’t produce a lot in the home, and growers use certain hormones to actually help with all the flowering you buy it with, is this true?
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. Like I said in the video, they typically flower 1-2 times a year around spring time. I've also heard about growers doing that but I couldn't find anything in my research about that. You could try getting some fertiliser made for flowering plants? That may encourage it to bloom! But be careful not to overfertilise
My peace lilly flower was beautiful when I first received it, now its turning brown on the tips, I changed the dirt and loosen the roots and reported it how e very its not doing well. I also whipped the leaves and fave it distilled water it helped a little. Please help me care for it? Once I learn how to care for it I can get another plant for my home. Thanks
Unfortunately the flowers on peace lily are temporary and will eventually die off. But given the right conditions they should come back again in a few months. I just cut off the flowers once they die
@@GoodGrowing Thanks for getting back with me but its the leaves chat are turning brown and I've cut them but it still won't grow new leaves. What else can I do?
My peace lily is thriving and producing lots of new leaves. However, I recently noticed that the leaf tips are turning brown followed by a little tiny bit of yellow. Is this caused by direct sunlight or something else?
Hmm it could be by direct sunlight but it sounds more like a watering thing to me.. do you use tap water? Sometimes peace lilies can be a bit picky about minerals in tap water...
@@GoodGrowing Thx for your reply. I moved her from the direct sunlight two days ago. My tap water is a bit hard though :( Will the tips revert back to normal again??
@@nadinep.simmons9981 For hard tap water, you could leave it out to let the chemicals evaporate off for 24-48 hours. This helps it not be so hard. I just always have my watering can filled up sitting on my counter and I think my plants appreciate that. The tips will not go green again unfortunately. Though if you don't like the look of them you could cut them off. Good luck! :)
If your pot has drainage holes (which it should), it means you're not giving it enough water quantity wise. When you water, its best to thoroughly soak the soil
Thank you so much for this video. I love my Peace Lily, but for the past month her soil has had a really annoying smell like maybe bad soil? When I repotted her two months ago, I used brand new soil. Is it possible to buy bad soil?
DO NOT TRUST YOUR FINGER. I was trying to water that way, my plants started dying. A big pot, no holes. BAD IDEA. I got a moisture Meter. 6 bucks on Amazon. All my plants have wet feet. I hope I can save them, one is a peace lily. I have to repot, drill hole in bottom. I use a soldering iron to make holes....
Mine keep getting brown/black and crispy on some of the leaves. I’ve tried repotting, using banana peels, checking the soil (in case of overwatering), spritzing every other day and not fertilizing it. Nothing is working! I’m so stressed as it’s my favourite plant! Is there any hope??
@@GoodGrowing no, I’m not using tap water. I’m using distilled water as advised. I’ve also read that tap water can be used if left overnight for the chlorine to “evaporate” ... nothing seems to be working. I’m at my wits end I do the water test as suggested in this video as well so I’m pretty sure I’m not overwatering. Ughhh Should I use banana peel? Coffee? I’ll try anything at this point. I also tried moving it around in the house hoping to find a “happy spot” but it just doesn’t seem “happy” lol. Ohh myy
