Hello Orchid from SLU. recently, my Phal.Ambyllis (a very large white orchid - no fragrance) sent out TWO DOUBLE SPIKES!! After the blooms fell off (it bloomed for about 4 - 5 months), and was able to cut the spent spikes, I was left with 1.5 leaves! Then they too died and fell off ... But low and behold!! A tiny keiki emerged,and is now sending out a second leaf. I Decided to do a repot, and only had to cut off 2 dead roots! So, it is now repotted in a smaller pot, as I know it may take another 3 years or so to have a full new Phalaenopsis Ambyllis. I am so proud of myself! So far, most of my orchids are growing well, with hardly any fungal issues and no pests. I feel blessed!! With the recent heatwave I had to water them a little more than usual, but all are good! I notice that it tend to keiki a lot. I have 2 of them and noticed that the spikes ends up in new plants development. Perhaps it's the nature of it. It's a lovely white though. Yes we have to water more during the heatwave we recently experience. In my area we are now getting afternoon rainfall, but believe me, the days are still home. It's good to know that you were inspired by this video, that will inspire me to want to share more. One love my friend from Jamaica. I would like to do a Caribbean tour and SLU is on my list. As a new Phal mom I’m so scared…a couple hours ago I said I must research fertilizer and spraying and up came this tutorial 😊very helpful thanks my confidence is boosted…especially when you spoke about misting,and rain water!
Thanks for sharing. I am new with Orchids I bought a seedling Phal with blooms they are gone now but I notice new leaf and on the spike the tip is green getting bigger is it another bloom coming
Your video was quite interesting.i got a phil.for my birthday.What i notice that the leaves began to wither and turn yellow.i turn it out of the container only to find that the roots muzhy and brown.Can it be rescued.I am living in the Linstead area of St.Catherine.Thank you if you van help me.
Hello Bertha, so happy you found the video interesting, and that you have acted on due to the information. Yes the plant can be saved. I would remove all the mushy roots, treat the plant with a fungicide repot and place the plant in a cool area. It should start sending out new roots and remember not to over or under water. Best wishes with your new plant.
