Cutting seed potatoes properly is very important, because you want each cutting to have at least one good "eye" on them. I prefer two but you should get at least one. Fungicide issues and yield is also discussed.
Hello Steve I have seen lots of videos showing potatoes being cut. I have seen some videos that show the cut potato being planted. I have never seen a video showing a potato plant grown from a cut potato being lifted and harvested. Is there a follow up video?
Well I live in Louisiana and my back yard dirt is kind of clay... I hope it works out. I only added epsom salt in with the potatoes and covered the cut up potatoes with the dirt.

What is the difference??? and how do potato merchants grow seed potatoes .. Cherry Ribble, Sometimes that is true. I priced organic red seed potatoes (Red potatoes have less starch) at my local garden supply company and for 7 or 8 small, and I mean small, red seed potatoes the price was $9.97. Then I bought three bags of organic red potatoes for $3.99 each at my local grocery store and each and every bag had about a dozen fist-sized potatoes in them. So I got 9 pounds of potatoes for 12.00 as opposed to a bag of tiny seed potatoes (maybe a pound) for almost $10. Because the grocery store potatoes were also organic they were not sprayed with anything and they chitted up just fine.
Rocky s Mum I am wondering why you are against planting potatoes in a clay base soil? I have seen the most beautifully large potatoes come from gumbo soil.
