Growing Sunflower Greens

At first, Sunflower Microgreens are a somewhat challenging crop to grow, but mastering them is quite easy. In this ridiculously long Instructional video we cover everything you need to know - and a whole lot more - apparently.
We show growing with weight atop the seeds, and without - and grow in two different Trays - our small Stainless Steel Sprouter and a 5x5 plastic nursery tray.
We have tried for over a decade to make this particular Instructional film. Finally we have finished. I (Gil) apologize for the length. Despite the cost (your time viewing it =;-) I know you'll grow great crops after watching it.
We don't often (ever) respond to comments here. You can reach us through sproutpeople.org. We're ever-present there. Please be kind. Life would be a joy if everyone just followed the Golden Rule - - and we've been online since 1995 - so we're just done with BS - online and off.

Hi. First time I have watched your video. I couldn’t quite hear what your medium consisted of. I heard coconut?, and worm castings. I couldn’t hear the 3rd part of your mix at all. Thank you for sharing this video. Patty

I believe it’s 75% coconut coir and 25% worm castings

That was fun. Thank you for taking the time to document that process. The Ira sighting was a sweet bonus.

Hello from Manila, the Philippines. I am inclined to think that, instead of punctuating the time line with the same 12 hours later string. It might be more tactile mentally if these interstitials are marked additively, ie, 12 hrs, 24 hrs, 36 hrs, 48 hrs, 60 hrs, 72 hrs and so on and so on. Thanks a lot. You’re doing a good job.

Hello… This came up on my utube feed just in time. I love these. Is there certain kind of seeds for growing sprouts? The small batches are what I need to do. I’m so sorry for all the complaints in the comments People want you to keep seeing your vids they should be considerate. Great video thank you 🤩. Question. How do you make the kelp water??

Thank you! I love sunflower microgreens in my salads-crisp, succulent and tasty. They are so different from the sprouts I grow (broccoli or radish or onion) that it’s great to have BOTH to add to a salad.

First time watching your videos! I have enjoyed watching how you grow sprouts. I do have a question about you sprouting the popcorn and the sunflowers you eat those greens. If so do you add it to any other food or eat them by themselves?

My thoughts exactly. Great tutorials but I do successfully grow healthy, lush, mold-free sunflower microgreens without having to run all that 💲🚰💲down the drain....🤔

Which one is this stainless steel sprouter, the large (7,5 inches diameter) one or the smaller (6 inches) one?

Thank you for posting this! I've been struggling to get my sunflower seeds to sprout without soil in my stainless steel tray, but it seems soil is the way to go. I think I caught that 75% of the soil mixture was coconut coir, but I couldn't hear what the 25% was (cute dog squeaky toy in the background!) Could you please tell us what you said? Thanks!
@zeal78

Correct yes, 75% coconut coir and 25% earthworm castings (4:1).

@@zeal78 Thank you! Also, I had no idea the coconut coir would expand so much. Learning as I go along. The seeds I ordered from you so far seem much better quality than some I bought from another company.

What is in the water you pour on the plants? It is definitely a brown color.

Well, I can tell one thing right away: you are not on tank water at the end of summer! I never let that much water go down the drain - if I were rinsing and draining seeds like that (unlikely - except for buckwheat), I'd be draining them into a bucket to water my plants!

great instructional video. can you remove the spining around at the end. it may feel cute to you, but it's dizzyingly unnecessary and not cute.
