I installed a set of these gears in my 2010 Avalanche, it’s been over 1 year now and they have worked flawlessly. I would recommend this set of gears to anyone with height adjustment problems with GM trucks. GM replaces the entire bottom assembly when plastic gears break. I think the dealer quoted me $1100 for the part & install.

For what it's worth -- this worked for our 2006 Mazda 6 -- apparently they used the same housing/gear as the GM mechanism. Thank you for the parts and instructions with video and tips. Was able to finally fix it.

Pretty good fix, for those too cheap to buy the E20 and E16 sockets, the 9/16 and 7/16 (universal) 12 side socket works well. This is for a 2011 Tahoe

Very helpful video. The hardest part was getting the screws out of the housings due to poor access. Especially the aft housing. FY: Deep socket reqd on fwd bolts Large internal star required to remove seat belt bolt to release seat from truck Otherwise went just as shown.

Great video! Quick question: how do I know if I need two sets of gears? My seat has both up down and forward and back gears and none of them work.

Mike, great video. I am fixing a seat on a Chevy Avanlanche as a type. Turns out Gruvenparts is 20 minutes from my house, so that worked out well. Question, as I am working on it, I turned the shaft that the gears attach to just a little as I was cleaning them. Should i be concerned where they are along the track since the two motors that raise, lower and tilt the lower seat seem to be synced up. Also, does it matter which direction the worm gear sits. The spiral gears seem to be a little concaved in one direction. thanks!

Hello---do you happen to know if the seat gear transmission on a '10 Cadillac DTS is the same as the unit repaired in the video? (Did GM have different seat transmissions for the trucks etc?) I am hoping that the repair kit might work on the DTS as well. Thank you for your reply.

I honestly do not know, but I bet you could get some photos off the internet and compare them and see if they are similar. I would think they would have little difference. Good luck on your search.

Gruven is always releasing new gears. This gear is not compatible but I believe they now offer the new gear.

I may need a couple sets of these in the future. are the gears different for the seat fwd/back adjustment mechanism? also, HOW DID YOU TEST THE SEAT AT THE END, WITHOUT USING THE BUTTON ON THE SEAT? :)

I wouldn't buy these gears. These gears only worked when unloaded. When loaded, they binded up and stopped. Wasted 2 days with jb Weld etc - only to find these gears don't work. Save yourself time and headache, don't buy these.

I don't know one single person that had a problem with them. When you don't know what your doing, don't blame the product.

@@bassb450 it was probably because i didn't use a micrometer to be exact. I just eyeballed it. It was too late after the JB weld dried. Anyhow i was told by a master mechanic that these aftermarket gears will only last a couple years. Eventually the brass will wear and start binding. Watching the video from the guy who sells them, you can tell the seat is noisier than a stock chair. OEM gears are assembled by robots and are perfectly timed. 10 years is what can be expected from OEM; these gears might last 3 years.
