this is one of my faves that you've done!! So fun to see the process from start to finish. Can you talk about your bat system (or point me to where you've talked about it before?) I have a wheel with no pins and it seems like you didn't use pins either just that cloth underneath?
@fromtreetosea
@fromtreetosea Год назад
aw yay! I just linked it in the description, the cloth is called a bat-mate, you just wet it and spread it on the wheel head and then put the bat on top and kinda press it down till it feels secure! my wheel is super old and doesn't fit some of the usual bat sizes :-) my full system with the inserts is by Dirty Girls!

This is one of my favorite videos!! I too, am on a mason stain journey in my pottery and I always struggle with the process of mixing the two together. I wish there was an easier way to add the stain! I love this video because it shows just how much time it takes!

For the plucking that happened on your mugs, in my studio we use wax mixed with a little bit of alumina hydrate to wax the bottoms. The alumina hydrate has such a high melting point that it doesn't melt at all at cone 6 and creates kind of a buffer between the bottom of the mug and the kiln shelf. Sorry if you've already figured out the issue / to give unsolicited advice but I figured I might as well share since it's such an easy way to keep pots from chipping off on the kiln shelves! Love the vlog and your work!!

I want to see more if the painting/glazing process because your art is beautiful and I feel like unique to the other potters I watch on RU-vid

hello, its always so great to see your videos! the vibes and the art is off the wall! my professor recently did a demo on mason stains, and he used slip and mixed the mason stains in and let them dry on a plaster board, similar to recycling clay. it eliminates the headache of having to wedge it a whole bunch! however, you do have to wait for the slip to dry, so its best when you have more time! either way, loved your work for this market! all love from texas

oooh this is a great tip, thank you! I have used coloured reclaim mixed into fresh clay, but that's a good idea to add more stain while it's still a bit sloppy so it's more pigmented when I mix it in! thanks for watching love :-) 💕

Your videos are answers to so many questions I’ve had for so long. Thank you. If you don’t mind sharing, where did you get the bevel edge ruler? I’ve looked but can’t find. Thanks again

Thank you! That was great! First, when your plate was a little smoky, muddy, kind of thing, our clear at our studio. If you don’t get the piece a little wet first it’ll turn out like that so we just get our piece a little wet, not soaking and then we put on our clear and you don’t get that muddy-ness.. second I am also trying to play with coloring my clay.. so I made colored slip first, then incorporated the slip into my clay.. haven’t fired mine yet

Hello hello!! So wonderful to watch your videos and as a ceramist myself i just love your creative vibe , thank you for that!! If i may ask, what kind of clay do you use? it looks so smooth with centering and pulling on the wheel, i use stoneware clay with 0,2 amount of chamotte and sometimes it is such a hard work to even centre the clay, especially with big amounts like a kilo?? Thanks and wish you a amazing day! Greets Melissa (The Netherlands)

Thank you for sharing that nerikomi process! Mason stains intimate me but you made it look so easy. Loved how the market pieces turning out :) btw where did you get your new wedging/canvas board from?

the red glaze looks so good!! I know that's not easy to achieve. What does dipping it in water after the bisque firing do? I loved seeing your hand building process and experimenting with colored clay!! I love the look of the designs drawn with underglaze pencil. Everything looks amazing!!!
@fromtreetosea

the water is simply a safety measure, because I prefer to wet sand to make sure that no lil dust particles are getting stuck in my lungs :-) I've been more on top of my sanding game with the nerikomi pieces bc I feel like it makes the edges between the colours more crisp. and thanks so much friend!!! excited to keep playing around with it hehe 💕

love your videos so much!! Is your white clay a stoneware or earthenware? I find my stoneware to fire to a really cream colour and the mayco stroke & coat/amaco velvets either burn off or have a weird texture when i fire to cone 5. Would love any tips if you found this in the past pleaseee. Keep up the amazing content
@fromtreetosea
@fromtreetosea Год назад
it's stoneware! it's actually called "bright white" from Tucker's (in Ontario) - I also pretty much exclusively fire to cone 6 so I'm not totally sure! in my experience, texture issues can be from applying too thick (or maybe they're not reaching the right temp to melt properly?) 💕
